Redskins re-signed QB Rex Grossman.
At this point, Mike Shanahan might as well give his favorite player a lifetime contract. Grossman's return shouldn't affect the Redskins' expected deal with free agent Pat White. Going on 33 and coming off a season where he didn't attempt a pass, Grossman's roster spot likely isn't guaranteed, but he'll be leaned on for his experience in Shanny's system during OTAs and training camp. The Redskins "hope and expect" to re-sign free agent Rex Grossman.

The Redskins met with Grossman's rep earlier this week. One of coach Mike Shanahan's all-time favorite players, Grossman should be back to back up Kirk Cousins as Robert Griffin III (knee surgery) continues his rehab.

Free agent Rex Grossman is unsure if he'll be back with the Redskins in 2013.

The Redskins would be well served by having a veteran backup behind Kirk Cousins if Robert Griffin III (ACL) isn't ready for Week 1, but aren't in a hurry to make a decision on Mike Shanahan's teacher's pet. Grossman hasn't been connected to any other teams in free agency.

Redskins declared QB Rex Grossman, WR Dezmon Briscoe, CB Crezdon Butler, S Brandon Meriweather, OLs Josh LeRibeus and Adam Gettis, and NT Chris Baker inactive for Week 1.

Rookie Kirk Cousins will be the No. 2 quarterback. Meriweather is dealing with a knee injury and Baker has an ankle ailment. The rest are healthy.

Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Rex Grossman will have to hold off Kirk Cousins to be the Redskins' backup quarterback coming out of training camp.

Grossman has a significant leg up on Cousins because of his knowledge of the offense and close friendship with OC Kyle Shanahan. The Skins also won't want to enter the season with two rookie quarterbacks. Should Robert Griffin III be injured or struggle out of the chute, Grossman would get the nod over Cousins.

Re-signed on Saturday, Rex Grossman has acknowledged he won't be the Redskins' starting quarterback in 2012.

"I'm fully aware they're going to draft a quarterback," he said. "Whatever my role will be, I want to be a part of this team, and turn this thing around." Grossman has been the quarterback the Redskins can't quit, but he will be Robert Griffin III's clipboard holder if all goes according to plan. John Beck is a candidate for release.

Redskins re-signed QB Rex Grossman to a one-year contract.

Grossman's preference was to return to Washington throughout free agency, and it's doubtful any team would have been willing to give him a contract. He'll serve in a valuable role as a backup and mentor to projected No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III.

Impending free agent Rex Grossman hopes to return to the Redskins in 2012.

"I really enjoy it here. I really enjoy this offensive system, what they’re building here," Grossman said Sunday. "So I’d love for this to be the place where I end up." Grossman had better hope the feeling is mutual, because coming off a 25-turnover season that saw him complete only 57.9 percent of his passes, it's doubtful anyone else will be willing to give him a chance. The Redskins are likely to make a big push to draft a franchise quarterback next spring.

Rex Grossman completed 22-of-45 passes for 256 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Redskins Week 17 loss to the Eagles.

Grossman led the NFC in interceptions this year, completed 58.8 percent of his passes, and finished 29th in the NFL in passer rating. The Redskins will be aggressive in replacing him this offseason, and could look to completely rebuild their quarterback depth through free agency and the draft.

Coordinator Kyle Shanahan acknowledges that the Redskins are still in search of a franchise quarterback.

Impending free agent Rex Grossman may be re-signed as a "bridge" QB, but Shanahan insists he doesn't "need a guy that's experienced" in his system as the starter. With five wins, the Redskins would have to trade up for Andrew Luck or perhaps Robert Griffin III.

Rex Grossman completed 26-of-41 passes for 284 yards, an interception, and two touchdowns in Saturday's 33-26 loss to the Vikings.

Grossman accounted for two turnovers and struggled to complete passes against the Vikings secondary in what projected as a favorable matchup. The Redskins will likely be aggressive in replacing him as their starting quarterback this offseason. In 11 starts, he's completing 58.3 percent of his passes and has a 13:18 TD-to-INT ratio.

Rex Grossman completed 15-of-24 passes for 184 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the Redskins' 23-10 Week 15 upset of the Giants.

It looked like it was going to be "Bad Rex" early. He badly underthrew a flea-flicker attempt on the first drive and quickly got picked off again in the first quarter. But Grossman then settled in and worked over the soft zones in the Giants' secondary. He'll be a QB2 option against the Vikings' awful secondary next week.

Coach Mike Shanahan said Rex Grossman is auditioning for the 2012 quarterback job.

Grossman signed a one-year deal with the Redskins in August, so he'll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Still, a return would make some sense as he could serve as a bridge to whichever quarterback the team drafts in April. Since getting the starting job back from John Beck six games ago, Grossman has led the Redskins' offense to 20.4 points per game.

Rex Grossman completed six passes of 20 yards or longer in Sunday's loss to the Patriots.

As any quarterback worth his salt has been able to do this season, Grossman had his way downfield against the Patriots' 32nd ranked pass defense. Grossman has two more excellent matchups lined up for the final two weeks of the fantasy playoffs, getting the Giants' 29th ranked pass defense in Week 15 and Minnesota's 27th ranked unit in Week 16.

Rex Grossman completed 19-of-32 passes for 252 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception as the Redskins fell to the Patriots in Week 14.

He also had a 49-yard scoring bomb "vultured" by PR Brandon Banks on a trick play. This was actually vintage "Good Rex," as he made several difficult throws into tight coverage and also exploited the New England zone defense when there were holes in the secondary, which was often the case on Jabar Gaffney's six receptions. Grossman's pick slipped through the hands of Santana Moss on the game's final play, so it wasn't necessarily the quarterback's fault. Grossman still won't be a standard-league fantasy option when the Redskins face the Giants in Week 15.
