Browns signed QB Rex Grossman.
Backups Tyler Thigpen and Connor Shaw can probably start packing their bags. Grossman has a history with OC Kyle Shanahan, having played for him in both Houston and Washington. Grossman will not be a factor to start. Instead, he'll be a sounding board for both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. Aug 12 - 9:37 AM

The Dolphins will not sign free agent Rex Grossman after his Monday workout.

Grossman reportedly is scheduled to work out with another team shortly. The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson suggested Monday the Fins might sign Brady Quinn, but they are not expected to add Grossman or John Skelton to the roster.

The Dolphins are scheduled to work out free agent Rex Grossman on Monday.

The Fins are dealing with injuries to Matt Moore and Pat Devlin, forcing UDFA Seth Lobato to operate as Ryan Tannehill's backup in training camp. Grossman, 34, could serve as a camp and preseason arm until final cuts.
Aug 10 - 11:38 PM

The Giants have not expressed any interest in free agent Rex Grossman.

With Eli Manning out six weeks following ankle surgery, the Giants are looking to add a veteran quarterback for OTAs. Free agents Josh Freeman and Matt Flynn are scheduled for workouts next week, but Grossman isn't on their radar. Grossman is expected to sign with the Browns before their April 29 minicamp.
Apr 12 - 8:37 PM

Coach Mike Pettine says the Browns plan to sign a veteran quarterback before their April 29 minicamp.

The Browns are pleased with Brian Hoyer's ACL recovery, but he may not be a full-go by late April, and YouTube star Alex Tanney is the only other quarterback on Cleveland's offseason roster. We expect the Browns to sign Rex Grossman, who has been following OC Kyle Shanahan around the NFL for a half-decade.
Apr 9 - 8:20 PM

CBS Sports expects the Browns to sign free agent QB Rex Grossman.

After losing out on Matt Schaub, Grossman is the next best option as a sounding board for whomever the Browns employ at quarterback. Grossman has plenty of experience in OC Kyle Shanahan's offense and would be nothing more than a veteran to bounce questions off of for Brian Hoyer and company.

ESPN Cleveland suggests free agent QB Rex Grossman as a target for the Browns.

Grossman has spent the past five seasons -- one in Houston and the last four in Washington -- with new Browns OC Kyle Shanahan. The only quarterback that appears to be safe in Cleveland is Brian Hoyer. Shanahan liked to keep three quarterbacks while with the Redskins, so he could team Grossman up with Hoyer and a rookie. Grossman wouldn't be a candidate to start.
Feb 4 - 1:15 PM

Rex Grossman completed 11-of-21 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills.

Grossman started and played the first and third quarters, rotating with Pat White. The 11-year veteran made some nice throws, but he was lucky he didn't have a pick-six added to his stat line. Grossman threw a lame duck to Aldrick Robinson, but Bills CB Stephon Gilmore dropped the ball. Through three preseason games, Grossman has completed 31-of-58 passes (53.4 percent) for 423 yards (7.3 YPA), three touchdowns, and an interception. He's very much earned the third-string job behind RG3 and Kirk Cousins.

CSN Washington believes the Redskins are considering carrying just two quarterbacks this season.

Reporter Rich Tandler takes the presence of four tight ends and kickoff specialist John Potter as a sign that coach Mike Shanahan may be prepared to go forward with only Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins under center. That would be a risky proposition considering RGIII's health, but would leave Rex Grossman as the odd man out. Although he's one of Shanahan's favorite players, Grossman didn't attempt a single pass in 2012.

Redskins re-signed QB Rex Grossman.

At this point, Mike Shanahan might as well give his favorite player a lifetime contract. Grossman's return shouldn't affect the Redskins' expected deal with free agent Pat White. Going on 33 and coming off a season where he didn't attempt a pass, Grossman's roster spot likely isn't guaranteed, but he'll be leaned on for his experience in Shanny's system during OTAs and training camp.

The Redskins "hope and expect" to re-sign free agent Rex Grossman.

The Redskins met with Grossman's rep earlier this week. One of coach Mike Shanahan's all-time favorite players, Grossman should be back to back up Kirk Cousins as Robert Griffin III (knee surgery) continues his rehab.

Free agent Rex Grossman is unsure if he'll be back with the Redskins in 2013.

The Redskins would be well served by having a veteran backup behind Kirk Cousins if Robert Griffin III (ACL) isn't ready for Week 1, but aren't in a hurry to make a decision on Mike Shanahan's teacher's pet. Grossman hasn't been connected to any other teams in free agency.

Redskins declared QB Rex Grossman, WR Dezmon Briscoe, CB Crezdon Butler, S Brandon Meriweather, OLs Josh LeRibeus and Adam Gettis, and NT Chris Baker inactive for Week 1.

Rookie Kirk Cousins will be the No. 2 quarterback. Meriweather is dealing with a knee injury and Baker has an ankle ailment. The rest are healthy.
Sun, Sep 9, 2012 11:39:00 AM

Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Rex Grossman will have to hold off Kirk Cousins to be the Redskins' backup quarterback coming out of training camp.

Grossman has a significant leg up on Cousins because of his knowledge of the offense and close friendship with OC Kyle Shanahan. The Skins also won't want to enter the season with two rookie quarterbacks. Should Robert Griffin III be injured or struggle out of the chute, Grossman would get the nod over Cousins.

Re-signed on Saturday, Rex Grossman has acknowledged he won't be the Redskins' starting quarterback in 2012.

"I'm fully aware they're going to draft a quarterback," he said. "Whatever my role will be, I want to be a part of this team, and turn this thing around." Grossman has been the quarterback the Redskins can't quit, but he will be Robert Griffin III's clipboard holder if all goes according to plan. John Beck is a candidate for release.
