The Cardinals reportedly hosted free agent S Mike Brown and G/C Kendall Simmons on Thursday.
It was the first free agent visit of the offseason for both players. Brown, now 32, struggled throughout last season, though he did manage to stay healthy for once. Simmons landed on I.R. in December with a shoulder injury. Fri, Apr 9, 2010 12:24:00 PM

Newly acquired safety Mike Brown has not made a serious push to start in Chiefs training camp.

It's the best scenario for all parties. Brown, 31, is too injury prone to be relied on as a full-time player and the new Chiefs front office can use a full season to evaluate Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard -- both in contract years.

Chiefs signed S Mike Brown, formerly of the Bears.

The KC Star's report says Brown "could" swipe Jarrad Page or Bernard Pollard's starting job, but he's more likely to be a third safety. It's the role he's best suited for at age 31 with a long history of unreliable health. A onetime Pro Bowler (2005) and Chicago's all-time leader in defensive TDs (7), Brown can play both safety spots. There's a lot to like about this pickup.

The Browns signing free agent S Mike Brown "doesn't appear to be in the cards," according to beat writer Tony Grossi.

They hosted Brown in early June. Grossi thinks the Browns aren't sold on Brodney Pool at free safety, so perhaps they'll revisit the Brown idea later this summer. Pool, in a contract year, is coming off a career-high three picks.

The Browns formally hosted S Mike Brown for a free agent visit Monday.

Brown has starting experience at both strong and free safety, making him an ideal fit to back up both Abram Elam and Brodney Pool. It's probably the role Brown is best suited for considering his age (31) and long injury history.

The next stop on free agent S Mike Brown's itinerary may reportedly be in Cleveland.

Brown visited the Chiefs last week. The Browns could use the veteran depth behind Abram Elam and Brodney Pool, both of whom are in contract years.

Free agent S Mike Brown will visit with the Chiefs on Wednesday.

Brown has received little interest on the free agent market due to his injury history and declining skills. He knows Chiefs coach Todd Haley from their time together in Chicago from 2001 to 2003.

Free agent S Mike Brown plans to continue playing this season.

The injury-prone 31-year-old has drawn little interest in free agency, but he should get an offer as we get closer to training camp. The Chargers make sense since they failed to upgrade on Clinton Hart, and Brown has ties with coordinator Ron Rivera.

The Bears have "decided to cut ties with" nine-year veteran FS Mike Brown.

This was expected, as GM Jerry Angelo said a month ago that he couldn't envision a scenario where Brown would return. Angelo is high on Danieal Manning, who is expected to be moved into Brown's starting role. With his injury history, Brown will likely have to accept a short-term, incentive-laden deal elsewhere.

Bears GM Jerry Angelo said he can't envision a scenario where impending free agent FS Mike Brown would return to the team.

"I don't see that right now," said Angelo. "Given how it affects Danieal (Manning). Allocation of money comes into play, too ... There could be a case where we want Mike back, but we can't afford to do it given what we want to do in other areas." Expect Manning to move into the starting lineup at free safety in 2009.

Bears placed FS Mike Brown (calf) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Brown played in 15 games in 2008 (his most since 2003), but struggled at times in coverage while coming off a torn ACL. Brown will hit free agency next spring at age 31. No team is likely to make Brown a multi-year commitment.

Bears FS Mike Brown (calf) is not expected to play Sunday at Houston.

If Chicago doesn't make the playoffs, it's possible that the free agent has played his last game as a Bear. He played in 15 games this year, but he's also missed 43 of 64 regular season contests in the previous four seasons.

Bears FS Mike Brown left in the third quarter Monday night with a knee injury and is not expected to return.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has had a fairly nice day against Chicago's secondary and this should help him keep it going. Brown's durability has been an issue for a few seasons now.

Bears coach Lovie Smith confirmed Monday that Mike Brown's calf injury is not season-threatening.

"Right now, he just has a calf injury," said Smith. "Mike doesn't have a season-ending injury." Lovie didn't offer any other details, but did mention that Brown's lack of durability over the past few seasons is "a concern."

Bears FS Mike Brown said in his post-game press conference that the calf injury he suffered in Week 8 is not season-threatening.

"Everything is good, man," he said. "You'll see me back out there shortly." Craig Steltz replaced Brown in the second half against Detroit and made two tackles and an interception. The Bears play against Tennessee in Week 10.
