The Bengals are not expected to show interest in signing free agent OT Willie Anderson, who aims to come out of retirement this summer.
Anderson wants to work in a backup/mentoring role, but the Bengals don't have the roster space to carry him. The 35-year-old (in July) doesn't expect teams to show interest until just before training camp in late July. Thu, Jun 24, 2010 11:22:00 AM

Former Bengals and Ravens OT Willie Anderson wants to come out of retirement and play in the NFL this season.

The four-time Pro Bowler had several invitations to training camp last summer but opted to let his body rest for a year instead. Turning 35 this summer, Anderson would be nothing more than an insurance policy for interested teams.

Four-time Pro Bowl OT Willie Anderson might want to come out of retirement for the 2010 season, sources tell

Anderson retired in 2009, but it was never a firm decision. His body needed a year off to heal and he didn't sound like a guy that was ready to hang it up. But he'll be 35 when next season starts and would likely be a backup.

OT Willie Anderson said he had to tell the Ravens he's not coming out of retirement right now.

Anderson was placed on the reserve/retired list in May. The Ravens were in Atlanta, where Anderson lives, Thursday night for their preseason finale and are apparently looking for depth behind starters Jared Gaither and rookie Michael Oher. Anderson said the Ravens have been talking to him about coming back for awhile and he didn't rule out returning down the line.

Ravens placed OT Willie Anderson on the reserve/retired list.

Anderson, 34, said in March that he wanted to keep playing, but he reportedly couldn't shake his injury troubles. The writing was on the wall when Baltimore drafted Michael Oher to take his place. A four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All Pro for the Bengals, Anderson retires after 14 seasons. He did not miss a start between 2000 and 2006. Anderson lost his pass-protection skills late in his career, but helped Baltimore rank fourth in the NFL in rushing as an 11-game starter last year.

Ravens RT Willie Anderson confirms that he has no plans to retire any time soon.

The Ravens coaching staff originally thought Anderson would retire, at which point they began shopping for upgrades. Their reported interest in Orlando Pace suggests the 14-year veteran's starting spot could still be in jeopardy.

X-rays on Ravens RT Willie Anderson's left ankle were negative after Saturday's win over Dallas.

It was just a sprain. Anderson had to leave Saturday night's game after getting hit from behind by his own ball carrier. He'll start in Week 17 against the Jaguars.

Ravens RT Willie Anderson had to be helped off the field Saturday with an ankle injury.

Chad Slaughter took his place. Anderson got tangled up at the end of a tackle and was eventually taken to the locker room for X-rays. QB Joe Flacco could be in real trouble.

Ravens RT Willie Anderson (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday and is questionable to play in Week 12 against the Eagles.

The Ravens might be without their starters at both tackle positions this week. If Anderson can't go, the Ravens will decide between rookie Oniel Cousins and Chad Slaughter. That could mean big things for the Eagles' defense. They would love to blitz on a couple of inexperienced tackles.

Ravens RT Willie Anderson (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 11 against the Giants and barely practiced all week.

It could get ugly for Baltimore if Anderson is unable to play or function well. Highly disruptive Giants LE Justin Tuck awaits. If Anderson is inactive, the Ravens might have to start raw rookie Oniel Cousins at right tackle.

Right tackle Willie Anderson is expected to see his first game action as a Raven in Week 3.

The Ravens signed Anderson to an $11 million deal early this month after his release from the Bengals. He could unseat Adam Terry at right tackle, but we doubt it. So far, coach John Harbaugh has only said Anderson is "in the mix".

Ravens signed OT Willie Anderson to a three-year, $11 million contract.

The deal is likely backloaded, but this is a desperation move by Baltimore. Knee and foot trouble led to Anderson's release by division rival Cincinnati. He'll back up Adam Terry for now, and could take over if Terry has to kick to the blind side if Jared Gaither fails to perform there.

Free agent Willie Anderson has narrowed his choices of teams to sign with to the Ravens, Bucs, and Chargers, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Anderson passed a physical for Baltimore and it appears he could sign there if he wanted. At 33, though, he may want to play for a contender.

Free agent OT Willie Anderson has fielded calls from Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome and Chargers GM A.J. Smith.

The Bears, Rams, Bucs, and Giants have reportedly also shown degrees of interest. Anderson, 33, is purely a right tackle but could help someone.

Bengals released OT Willie Anderson.

"They wanted me to take a pay cut," Anderson said. "I wouldn't do it." No one else is going to offer him more than the minimum. Anderson made four Pro Bowls and three All-Pro squads in his 11 seasons with the club.
