Free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh has no plans to formally retire.
"I do want to play," he said. "I'm working out and training to be ready. If I do play, great. If not, that's why I'm doing things of this nature." The "things of this nature" is satellite radio. Housh hasn't drawn any free agent interest, and was greeted by a similarly chilly market last year before getting bailed out by old friends Hue Jackson and Carson Palmer. He's likely played his final snap in the NFL. Tue, Apr 10, 2012 08:40:00 AM

Free agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh admits that if he doesn't sign somewhere by late September, his NFL career is likely over.

Houshmandzadeh spent most of last season on the street before old friend Hue Jackson picked him up in Oakland. He'll be 35 on September 26 and already has his sights set on a broadcasting gig. "We'll get this first week of free agency done and then we'll see what happens, but I'm not going to wait as long as last year," Houshmandzadeh said.

Free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh hopes to play in 2012.

Were it not for former Raiders coach Hue Jackson's charity, Houshmandzadeh likely would have gone unsigned in 2011. Going into his age-35 season, Housh says he "just wants to play for a team that has a chance of winning." A shell of his former self, Housh will be lucky to draw any interest.

The Raiders are not expected to bring back free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Housh may be a favorite of Carson Palmer, but he was only signed last year because Hue Jackson was running the show in the front office. Now that Reggie McKenzie has taken over, beat writer Steve Corkran jokingly suggests Houshmandzadeh is "getting his nails done with Hue."

T.J. Houshmandzadeh was held without a reception in Week 11.

He was not targeted against the Vikings, playing behind Denarius Moore, Darrius Heyward-Bey, and Chaz Schilens. Feel free to drop Housh in all leagues.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Louis Murphy split third receiver duties after Jacoby Ford left with a foot injury Thursday night.

Housh came on as Ford's immediate replacement, but he saw just 17 snaps to Murphy's 18 and Chaz Schilens' nine. While Carson Palmer has breathed plenty of life into Oakland's aerial attack, Denarius Moore is the only receiver with fantasy value as long as Ford is out.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh caught one pass for 28 yards in his Raiders' debut Sunday.

Houshmandzadeh surprisingly played a ton of snaps out of the slot and ended up with four targets. He also struggled to separate, which shouldn't come as a surprise at age 34. Leave Housh on waivers.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Vittorio Tafur expects T.J. Houshmandzadeh to be active for Week 9.

Tafur believes Houshmandzadeh will play "at least on third downs in the slot." Oakland appears to be mostly interested in Houshmandzadeh as a safety blanket for Carson Palmer and mentor for its younger receivers. That, coupled with physical skills that seemed to all but vanish in Baltimore makes Houshmandzadeh a poor flier even in deeper leagues.

Raiders signed WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Housh has an extensive history with coach Hue Jackson and new QB Carson Palmer, though we suspect the latter was the driving force behind the signing. Both would do well to review the 2009-2010 game tape rather going off memory of Houshmandzadeh's prime. We assume the Raiders envision Housh as Palmer's slot-receiver safety blanket in a best-case scenario. He's going to have to leapfrog more talented players to make an impact, so expectations should be low.

The Raiders will work out free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh on Tuesday.

Coach Hue Jackson said it's "uncertain" whether Houshmandzadeh will be signed, pending how he looks and whether he's able to pass a physical. Aside from familiarity with Carson Palmer, we don't see any way he'd be an upgrade for an Oakland receiver corps that is already deep and impressively talented.

The Raiders recently announced their plan to give free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh a physical during their Week 8 bye.

It sounds like a signing may be imminent. Houshmandzadeh has little left at age 34, but would be an option at slot receiver and has an extensive background with Carson Palmer. His addition might not be good news for Jacoby Ford.

Free agent WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh will work out for the 49ers Tuesday, a source tells CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

Veteran Chris Chambers is also working out. The Niners are down to three healthy receivers after Josh Morgan (ankle) went down in garbage time last week. Houshmandzadeh is in major decline at age 34, but at least his possession receiver style fits with Alex Smith. San Francisco may be just desperate enough to make the add here, depending on how today's tryout goes.

ESPN's Adam Schefter doesn't see the Cowboys signing free agent wide receivers T.J. Houshmandzadeh or Randy Moss.

The Cowboys are going to stretch out Kevin Ogletree, Jesse Holley and Laurent Robinson for one more week. Hopefully, that trio will actually know the playbook before getting on the field against the Lions Sunday. Miles Austin (hamstring) is expected back once the Cowboys come out of their Week 5 bye.

In addition to Brandon Stokley, the Giants also worked out free agent WRs T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Tiquan Underwood, and David Clowney this week.

As deep threats and special teamers, Clowney and Underwood had little chance to win a roster spot on a team looking for a slot receiver. It doesn't say much for Housh's chances for a career revival after losing out to Stokley.

Free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh will visit the Patriots Monday.

Housh may have old pal Chad Ochocinco pulling a few strings behind the scenes, but it's hard to imagine a worse fit. Taylor Price's impressive performance in the first preseason game already had the Pats pushing to get six receivers on the roster. We've also seen speculation that the Colts were interested in Housh, who is only a borderline NFL talent going on age 34.
