Bucs signed LB Leon Joe, formerly of the Bills.

Joe couldn't make the Bucs last summer, and there's little reason to think he might this time around. If he does, he'd play strictly on special teams.

Jaguars waived LB Leon Joe and signed TE Isaac Smolko off their practice squad.

Joe helped out in practice for a few days. Smolko, a former undrafted free agent from Penn State, will step in as the team's third-string tight end.

The special teamer was no longer needed with Buffalo's linebacker corps at near full strength. Joe will probably catch on elsewhere down the road.

Leon Joe is expected to be Buffalo's starting weak side linebacker until Coy Wire (knee) or Keith Ellison (ankle) returns to action.

It doesn't look like Ellison or Wire will play in Week 4. Joe has been a special teamer for almost his entire career. Don't rush to grab him in IDP leagues.

Joe, almost strictly a special teams performer, knows Bills coordinator Perry Fewell from their days together in Chicago. He'll back up the weak side.

Davis was a first-round pick once upon a time but has poor cover skills. Joe will cover kicks for whoever is willing to give him another chance.
