Jeff Garcia will interview for the Rams' QBs coach job.

Garcia, 44, has been out of the NFL since 2011. He spent last year coaching quarterbacks for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. Garcia is a candidate to replace Frank Cignetti, who was promoted to offensive coordinator.

Ex-NFL QB Jeff Garcia has been named the quarterbacks coach for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes.

Garcia, 44, was last in the NFL with the Texans in 2011, but hasn't played in a game since 2009 for the Eagles. He reportedly reached out to the Browns last season when Brian Hoyer was injured. Garcia is a football lifer it appears. He's been working with quarterbacks, most notably JaMarcus Russel, the past couple years. Former NFLers Troy Smith and Chad Johnson play for Montreal.

Free agent Jeff Garcia reached out to the Browns to express interest in returning as a quarterback.

The fact that this is even a "story" tells you how pathetic the Browns' quarterback situation is. Garcia is 43 years old, hasn't been in the NFL since 2011 and hasn't started a game since 2008. The Browns are currently deciding whether to start Brandon Weeden or Jason Campbell in Week 8. Weeden is tentatively expected to get one more chance despite an incredibly inaccurate 17-of-42 for 149 yard performance against the Packers on Sunday.

Free agent Jeff Garcia hopes to play in 2012.

Specifically, for the Eagles, for whom Garcia joked he would pay to play for in a Friday radio interview. Although Garcia spent the final month of 2011 on Houston's roster, he turned 42 in February, and hasn't attempted a pass since 2008. Garcia should remain unsigned.

Texans declared QB Jeff Garcia, FS Troy Nolan, WR Jeff Maehl, TE Garrett Graham, OT Andrew Gardner, G Thomas Austin and CB Brandon Harris inactive for the Divisional Round against the Ravens.

Garcia has now been inactive for both of the Texans' playoff games, suggesting Houston has the utmost faith in rookie signal caller T.J. Yates. TE Owen Daniels was listed as probable on the injury report after being limited all week in practice by hand and knee injuries, but was never in danger of missing today's game.

Texans agreed to terms with QB Jeff Garcia.

Now that T.J. Yates has the confidence of teammates and coaches alike, the Texans want two veteran mentors behind him. Garcia has worked out for the team in each of the past two weeks and has a long history with QBs coach Greg Knapp from their time together in San Francisco. He's expected to be the No. 3 QB in Houston.

The Texans intend to sign either Jeff Garcia or Jake Delhomme Tuesday, a source tells

The two veteran free agents are working out for the Texans today. Garcia also worked out in Houston last week, but the team chose to sign Kellen Clemens instead. Regardless, rookie T.J. Yates will get the first crack at running with the job when he starts against the Falcons on Sunday. Kellen Clemens will be his backup.

The Texans are working out free agent QBs Jeff Garcia and Jake Delhomme on Tuesday.

Right now they are clearly vying for the backup job behind rookie T.J. Yates, but if either of them can still play they make for somewhat compelling options. The Texans have a playoff-caliber team and need a game manager, and not a rookie learning on the job. Neither veteran signal-caller should be viewed as a savior to the Texans' overall woes with Matt Schaub on I.R.

The Texans are working out free agent QBs Jeff Garcia, Trent Edwards, Brodie Croyle, and Kellen Clemens on Monday.

One may be signed this week to "compete" in practice for the Texans' backup job with T.J. Yates behind Matt Leinart. Ultimately, the Texans seem unlikely to sign a veteran until Matt Schaub (Lisfranc injury) is placed on season-ending injured reserve. Schaub is visiting foot specialist Robert Anderson on Wednesday.

The NFL has sent a memo to all 32 teams detailing rules for signing UFL players.

In short, teams still have to pay $150,000 if they want to sign a player to the active roster. However, there is no fee for giving players a tryout, signing them to a future contract, or signing them to the practice squad. Teams are allowed to sign players to the active roster from the practice squad, an interesting loophole in the system. Only a handful of UFL players still have practice squad eligibility remaining, and it will still take the $150,000 fee to bring a player like Jeff Garcia into the NFL.

Jeff Garcia said rumors of him joining the Eagles are "just talk," according to

Just like everyone else, Garcia will be anxiously awaiting the results of Michael Vick's MRI. "We'll see what transpires over the next couple of days," Garcia said via text message to Fanhouse. Garcia would serve as Kevin Kolb's backup. Profootballtalk's Mike Florio reported Sunday night that Garcia could leave the UFL if commissioner Michael Hugyhue approves the move and the NFL team or the player pays a buyout fee of $150,000.

Free agent Jeff Garcia can get out of his UFL contract if an NFL team pays the lower-level league a $150,000 buyout.

Garcia could be an option in Philadelphia if Michael Vick's Monday morning MRI reveals a fracture to his rib(s) or collarbone. Garcia's agent tells Mike Florio of that his client has interest in the Eagles if they'd have him. Behind Kevin Kolb, the Birds' only other quarterback is rookie Mike Kafka. Garcia turned 40 last February.

Coach Brad Childress disputes a report that the Vikings contacted free agent Jeff Garcia in case Brett Favre opts not to return.

Chilly denied that the team has or ever had interest in the 40-year-old. Of course, he has to keep up a pretense of confidence in Tarvaris Jackson, so it's not surprising that he would deny reaching out to Garcia to gauge his interest.

The Vikings contacted Jeff Garcia to see if he'd be ready to go in case Brett Favre does retire.

Garcia essentially said "thanks, but no thanks" because just like everyone else, he believes Favre is going to play. Garcia decided to accept an offer from the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL instead.
