Jets signed DT Antonio Garay to a one-year contract.
Garay, 33, was a bit player for the 2012 Chargers, appearing in eight games as a reserve end and nose tackle and getting pushed around against the run. In New York, Garay will push raw youngster Kenrick Ellis for snaps. Garay is more of an interior pass rusher, though he has just 3.5 sacks the past two years. Mar 15 - 6:46 PM

Chargers released NT Antonio Garay.

Garay was due $5 million in 2013, and this move was a formality. The Chargers are interested in bringing back free agent Aubrayo Franklin to man the nose. Garay, 33, recorded just 16 tackles in eight games played last season.

Per NFL.com, the Chargers are "heading toward" releasing NT Antonio Garay.

At this point, Garay's official release is just a formality. He's owed a $1.5M roster bonus and $3.5M in base salary for 2013. It's far too much for a part-time player that missed eight games last season and 14 in 2009. Garay will attract some interest as a 3-4 interior piece.

Chargers NT Antonio Garay is a candidate for offseason release.

Garay was a part-time player in 2012 and is due a prohibitive $5 million salary. Beat writer Kevin Acee believes it would be "difficult to imagine" him being back. The Chargers can save an additional $3 million by cutting FB Le’Ron McClain and TE Randy McMichael.

Chargers NT Antonio Garay (ankle) is questionable for Monday night.

Garay has been limited in practice this week and has battled the ankle much of the preseason. If Garay doesn't suit up, Aubrayo Franklin would step in. Either way, Darren McFadden is geared for a big night on the ground against last year's 20th ranked rush defense.

Chargers NT Antonio Garay's left ankle injury, suffered in Saturday's practice, is a day-to-day situation.

It's not a high ankle sprain. Garay was seen in a protective walking boot Sunday, but the Chargers don't anticipate a "prolonged absence." 32-year-old Garay knows the defense well. His absence is not a 2012 defensive concern.

Chargers NT Antonio Garay was carted off the field at Saturday's camp practice with a left ankle injury.

Garay was spotted "walking gingerly" and did not return. We should have more information on his status during the week. Initial indications were that Garay's injury is significant.

Chargers GM A.J. Smith indicated that NT Antonio Garay will move around the defensive line more following the addition of Aubrayo Franklin.

"We're three deep at nose tackle," said Smith, referring to Garay, Franklin, and Cam Thomas. "But the versatility of Antonio Garay will allow him to be a floater. This gives John Pagano some flexibility on the defensive line." The North County Times believes this may ultimately cost Jacques Cesaire his roster spot.

Chargers re-signed NT Antonio Garay to a two-year contract.

One of the league's top run-pluggers in 2010, Garay's effectiveness waned in his age-32 season. He's started 28 of 32 games the past two years after appearing in just 16 games from 2003-2009. The Chargers did not make it a priority to sign Garay early on because 2010 fifth-rounder Cam Thomas played well in a rotational role last year.

Free agent NT Antonio Garay is "maintaining a line of communication" with the Chargers.

The Bolts have a standing offer out to Garay, who has yet to line up any visits in free agency. Until he does, he has zero leverage with a team that doesn't want to overpay for his services heading into his age-33 campaign.

The Chargers are not expected to finish a deal with free agent NT Antonio Garay before the March 13 market opens.

Garay has reportedly gotten little attention from San Diego's front office while it works to re-sign free agent Vincent Jackson. Garay is 32 years old and his play slipped dramatically in 2011. The nose tackle's market value won't be strong.

The Chargers would reportedly like to re-sign free agent NT Antonio Garay "at a reasonable cost."

Garay is 32, and the Chargers are "optimistic they can retain (him) without breaking the bank." Garay may return on a low-cost, short-term deal, but he's obviously not a long-term solution. Backup Cam Thomas showed lots of promise as a situational run-stopper in 2011, and figures to see a bump in playing time.

The Chargers will reportedly not get into an offseason bidding war for free agent NT Antonio Garay.

The Bolts are high on Garay's young backup, Cam Thomas, and the 32-year-old Garay took a step back as a run defender after a mammoth 2010 season. Garay could make some sense as a late-career signing in the Fred Robbins mold with old pal Ron Rivera and the Panthers. He's probably got a solid year or two left.

Chargers NT Antonio Garay (hip) will play against the Bears on Sunday.

The injury kept him out last week against the Raiders, and regardless the Chargers have given up 5.41 yards per carry over their last five weeks. His return certainly isn't going to hurt matters, but this is still one of the best matchups Matt Forte will see all year.

Chargers NT Antonio Garay led all NFL defensive tackles in "pressure per snap" last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Garay had been an under-utilized journeyman behind Jamal Williams going into last season. He quickly emerged as a penetrating run stopper and pass rusher, disruptive in all phases of the game in his first year as a starter. Garay graded out as PFF's No. 2 overall nose tackle despite playing just half the snaps of No. 1 Kyle Williams.
