Texans signed LB Chaun Thompson, formerly of the Browns, to a two-year, $2.4 million contract. The deal includes a $605,000 signing bonus.

Cleveland had an offer on the table, but it likely wasn't as substantial. Thompson, 28, figures to battle on the strong side with Kevin Bentley. He can rush the passer, having posted 10 sacks as a reserve in his Browns stint.

The Texans have entered the bidding for free agent LB Chaun Thompson.

Houston could put him on the strong side, where he'd offer more of a pass rush threat than Danny Clark or Charlie Anderson. The Browns are also in discussions with Thompson. No visit with the Texans has been set up yet.

Browns LB Chaun Thompson left Sunday's finale with a hand injury.

He was taken to the locker room, likely to undergo testing, but returned later on. Thompson, who started the game at inside linebacker in place of Andra Davis, may move back to his more natural outside spot in 2007, but is unlikely to be considered as starting material.

Browns fourth-year linebacker Chaun Thompson is expected to be a reserve this season, most likely on the inside.

An in-training camp calf injury hurt Thompson's chances of getting the outright nod over second-round rookie D'Qwell Jackson. Thompson, a former second-rounder himself, will likely help at his natural outside linebacker position during passing downs this season.

Chaun Thompson lined up at a starting inside linebacker position Friday.

Rookie D'Qwell Jackson could challenge Thompson, naturally an outside 'backer, to start in training camp.

Chaun Thompson has been working almost exclusively at inside linebacker.

It appears the Browns will start Kamerion Wimbley outside as a rookie. If Thompson sticks on the inside, he'll push second-round pick D'Qwell Jackson for a starting job.

Chaun Thompson says he's willing to move to inside linebacker.

Thompson played well at times last season, registering five sacks, but lost his starting job late. With newcomers Kamerion Wimbley and D'Qwell Jackson in the mix, Thompson is all but assured a full-time bench role in 2006, wherever he's lining up.

Chaun Thompason was benched during Cleveland's preseason finale.

Kenard Lang and Matt Stewart started at outside linebacker. Since they'll rotate on the outside, none of the above are thrilling IDP options.
