Redskins waived WR Joey Galloway, and signed WR Terrence Austin from the practice squad to the active roster.
Plagued by drops and declining speed, Galloway is at the end of a surprisingly long career that began in 1995. The journeyman has resurfaced time and again after being written off before, but the timing of this move is curious given Santana Moss' gimpy hamstring. Roydell Williams figures to draw more snaps after the departure of Galloway, but isn't a fantasy option. Sat, Nov 27, 2010 05:17:00 PM

Joey Galloway apparently was benched in favor of Roydell Williams Monday night after running a poor route that led to an interception.

Following that route with five minutes left in the first half, Williams played 24 snaps the rest of the game, while Galloway played one. The veteran also had a drop of a potential first down catch earlier in the game. It's the second time Galloway has been demoted this year, and his snaps figure to be very limited from here on out.

Joey Galloway was held without a catch on one target in Monday's 59- 28 Week 10 loss to Philadelphia.

The lone target was picked off by Dimitri Patterson as Galloway failed to come out of his cut quick enough. Father time should be avoided in both fantasy leagues and in real life.

Joey Galloway caught only one pass for 18 yards in the Week 6 loss to the Colts.

Anthony Armstrong has overtaken him for a starting job. He received only four targets on the night and has just eight catches this season. You shouldn't own him, but if you do, please drop him.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Friday that Joey Galloway may not start the team's Week 6 game against Indianapolis.

The alternative is Anthony Armstrong. Said Shanahan of Galloway: "He might not be the No. 2 receiver. We definitely got a No. 1 receiver. Last week, I think there was equally two No. 2 receivers. We'll see who it is this week." Shanahan also confirmed that Armstrong "is going to get a lot of playing time." Still, Santana Moss and Chris Cooley will continue to hog targets.

Joey Galloway did not start the Redskins' Week 3 loss to St. Louis.

The Skins were in a two-back, two-tight end set on the first snap, though Galloway was so invisible that our game charter didn't even merit him worthy of a post-game blurb. Galloway has gone catch-less in two of the Skins' first three games. His 10 targets on the year rank fourth on the team behind Santana Moss (30), Chris Cooley (20), and even fullback Mike Sellers (11).

Joey Galloway caught three passes for 88 yards against the Texans in Week 2.

The 38-year-old burned rookie Kareem Jackson for a 62-yard bomb thanks in large part to a masterful play-action by Donovan McNabb. It's not going to happen every week, so keep him on the waiver wire.

Joey Galloway remains the favorite to start opposite Santana Moss against the Cowboys on Sunday night.

Galloway could still get pushed out of his starting gig if the Skins sign T.J. Houshmandzadeh. At age 38, Galloway is no longer the burner he was in his heyday. Don't use him in fantasy or expect him to start for very long.

Joey Galloway played 34 snaps against the Jets in Friday's preseason game.

Galloway finally recorded his first preseason reception on his way to three catches for 29 yards. He still seems likely to open the season as the starter opposite Santana Moss, but he won't last long. Expect Devin Thomas or even Anthony Armstrong to push him during the season.

Joey Galloway has been targeted just one through two preseason games.

Chris Cooley has dominated Donovan McNabb's passes, while Santana Moss and Anthony Armstrong have seen more balls. The Washington Post suggests that Galloway can no longer separate, which isn't surprising. The 38-year-old lost his jets years ago. Galloway is not long for the starting role.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Friday that Joey Galloway is the top receiver on Washington's depth chart after an impressive offseason.

Chris Russell of ESPN 980 also passes along positive impressions of Galloway's offseason, going so far as to say he "earned" the starting job over Devin Thomas, as opposed to Thomas blowing it, as usual. While it's hard to have faith in Galloway's fantasy value, Thomas' is clearly in the gutter. Santana Moss and Chris Cooley are the Skins' pass catchers to target.

Joey Galloway opened training camp as the Redskins' starting wide receiver opposite Santana Moss.

That doesn't say much for disappointing third-year receivers Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly. We suspect that Thomas will end up supplanting the 38-year-old veteran, but it's far from a sure thing. Thomas reportedly got off on the wrong foot with the new coaching staff.

Joey Galloway is "consistently" separating from defensive backs in Redskins practices this spring.

As with most stories coming out in June, we're taking this with a heavy grain of salt. Galloway still has above average speed, so it's no surprise that he's looking good in no-contract drills. He remains a longshot to make an impact this season.

Redskins signed WR Joey Galloway to a one-year contract.

Galloway, 38, bounced between the Patriots and Steelers' rosters last year, managing seven catches for 67 yards as a reserve. He's lost most of his ability to separate and is unlikely to help the Redskins if he makes the team.

Free agent Joey Galloway will not be re-signed by the Steelers, according to beat writer Gerry Dulac.

No surprise at all here. Galloway is 38 and never caught a pass for the Steelers after signing off the street late in the 2009 season. It could very well be the end of the line for the former elite deep threat.
