The Cleveland defense has allowed conversions on 50 percent of third down plays in 2016, the worst mark in the NFL.
Baltimore leads the NFL in third down defense, allowing conversions at a 31.5 percent rate. Poor third down defense has plagued the Cleveland defense, and the team has not held an opponent under 28 points since Week 2. The Browns D/ST is as far from the fantasy radar as possible for a Week 11 home date with Pittsburgh. Nov 19 - 12:32 PM

The Cleveland defense allowed 119 rushing yards on Thursday night, and has now allowed 100 or more rushing yards in eight of ten games in 2016.

The Browns also allowed at least 28 points for the seventh consecutive game and own the NFL's second-worst run defense, ahead of just the abysmal San Francisco 49ers. Cleveland did force multiple turnovers against Baltimore, the first time the Browns have achieved that feat since Week 3, but was otherwise unimpressive again on Thursday night. The Browns D/ST won't be worth fantasy consideration in Week 11 against Pittsburgh.
Nov 10 - 11:49 PM

Cleveland has allowed 489 total yards and 168.7 rushing yards per game over the last three weeks.

The winless Browns have a messy situation at quarterback, but their defense continues to struggle as well. Cleveland's 139.9 rushing yards allowed per game slots them 31st among NFL defenses, ahead of only San Francisco's non-existent run defense. Even in a home matchup against Ryan Fitzpatrick, the NFL leader in interceptions, the Browns D/ST is a risky streaming option in fantasy leagues.
Oct 26 - 4:41 PM

The Cleveland run defense will face a stiff challenge in Week 6 from the Tennessee, the NFL's second-leading rushing offense at 148.6 yards per game.

The Browns have allowed 114.2 rushing yards per game through five weeks and will now take on the Titans and DeMarco Murray, who has averaged 104.8 yards per game over the last four weeks by himself. The Browns D/ST is fresh off an abysmal home performance against New England and is not a trustworthy fantasy option in Week 6.
Oct 13 - 5:44 PM

Cleveland CB Joe Haden (groin) missed Friday's team walk-through and is questionable for Week 3.

The injury bug has devoured the Cleveland offense and is now working its way to the defense. Haden had two interceptions in Week 2 and his potential absence is a significant issue for the Cleveland defense. The Browns D/ST won't be a viable fantasy option this week with or without Haden, but having the cornerback in the fold would help Cleveland's chances of stealing a win at Miami.
Sep 23 - 6:06 PM

The Cleveland Browns have recorded just 29 sacks in 2015.

Only four NFL teams have fewer sacks on the year, and the lack of production has frustrated Browns defenders. "I just haven't had those big plays that put our defense in a good situation, and that I put on my own shoulders," said linebacker Paul Kruger. The Cleveland defense has also forced just one turnover since Week 12, further adding to their defensive woes. The Browns D/ST won't be a viable fantasy option at home against Pittsburgh in Week 17.
Jan 2 - 3:47 AM

The Cleveland defense has not forced a turnover since Week 12.

The Browns will have a tough time correcting their turnover troubles in Week 16 when they travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs, who have turned the ball over just 12 times in 2015, the second-lowest total in the NFL. In addition to the turnover woes, Cleveland is 31st among NFL defenses in stopping the run, so fantasy owners will stay far from this D/ST option in Week 16.

The Cleveland defense travels to Seattle in Week 15 to face the Seahawks, who have averaged 34.6 points per game over the last five weeks.

The Browns have their work cut out for them this week, as the Seattle passing game has been on fire in recent weeks with Russell Wilson throwing 16 touchdown passes in his last four games. Cleveland has allowed 30 or more points in five of their last six games, making the Browns D/ST an avoidable group in fantasy leagues this week in what should be a lopsided game.
Fri, Dec 18, 2015 03:48:00 AM

The Cleveland defense allowed 37 points in Week 13, the fifth-consecutive game that the group has allowed 30 or more points.

Cleveland has allowed 30 or more points in eight of 12 games in 2015, and checks-in at 31st among NFL defenses in points allowed, ahead of only lowly New Orleans. Week 14 provides a chance for Cleveland to reverse this trend, when they host the San Francisco 49ers, who are dead-last in the NFL in scoring offense at 14.8 points per game. The Browns D/ST is worth a look as a potential streaming option in fantasy leagues this week, but the floor this unit offers is frighteningly low.
Sun, Dec 13, 2015 01:00:00 AM

The Cleveland defense has not held an opponent under 30 points since Week 7.

In four games since Week 7, Cleveland has allowed 32.0 points and 414.3 total yards per game while going 0-4. The Browns have also recorded just four sacks in that span and haven’t been close to the fantasy radar all season. Week 13 will be no different, when the Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals, who are fourth among NFL offenses in scoring at 27.0 points per game.
Sat, Dec 5, 2015 02:06:00 PM

The Cleveland Browns will host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, who will be led by Matt Schaub, Buck Allen, and Kamar Aiken.

Baltimore has been crushed by injuries and will play the rest of the 2015 season their leading passer, rusher, and receiver. The Cleveland defense is an enticing Week 12 fantasy option due to the matchup, but this group has not been good this season and has allowed 29.0 points per game during their current five-game losing streak. The Browns D/ST is a borderline top-12 fantasy play this week for teams looking for streaming options.
Sat, Nov 28, 2015 02:37:00 AM

The Cleveland Browns head into their Week 11 bye with the last-ranked run defense among NFL teams, allowing 138.8 rushing yards per game.

The Browns have held their opposition to less than 100 rushing yards in just two of 10 games in 2015. After the bye, Cleveland will host the Baltimore Ravens and will not be a worthwhile fantasy D/ST option.
Thu, Nov 19, 2015 12:47:00 AM

The Cleveland defense could face Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) in Week 10, who is practicing on a limited basis.

Roethlisberger was originally expected to miss Week 10, leaving the Pittsburgh offense in the hands of Landry Jones. Of course, it is entirely possible that the Steelers are toying with Cleveland by giving the allusion that Roethlisberger will play, but the situation should be monitored prior to kickoff. Considering the struggles of the Cleveland run defense in 2015, the Pittsburgh quarterback may not make much of a difference. The Browns D/ST is not a recommended fantasy option in Week 10.
Fri, Nov 13, 2015 03:11:00 AM

The Cleveland Browns will take their 32nd-ranked run defense to Cincinnati on Thursday night to face the Bengals.

The Browns have struggled to stop opposing rushers all season and are coughing up 147.0 rushing yards per game, over 13 yards per game more than the 31st-ranked Detroit Lions. Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard will receive a Week 9 boost due to this matchup, but the Browns D/ST can be safely avoided on Thursday night.
Thu, Nov 5, 2015 06:51:00 AM

The Browns D/ST will not be a viable fantasy option in Week 8 when they host the Arizona Cardinals, who are the second-highest scoring team in the NFL.

The resurgent Chris Johnson will look to gash the Cleveland defense that is dead last in the NFL in run defense and allows a beefy 5.1 yards per carry to opposing rushers. The Cleveland defense will remain on fantasy waiver wires this week and won't see their schedule lighten up anytime soon as they travel to Cincinnati and Pittsburgh following Sunday's matchup with Arizona.
