Lions released S Kalvin Pearson.
Pearson, 31, was due just over $600,000 in salary, but offered no upside and limited ability on defense. He may resurface as a gunner elsewhere. Fri, Apr 16, 2010 12:21:00 PM

Kalvin Pearson is the early favorite to start at strong safety opposite rookie Louis Delmas.

At 5'10/200, Pearson is too small to last long at the hard-hitting position, but the alternatives are unappetizing. Daniel Bullocks was burned routinely last season and Marquand Manuel is strictly backup material.

Lions S Kalvin Pearson hopes to show the new coaching staff that he can be a full-time player.

Everyone in the NFL wants to start, but Pearson looks to have a legit shot, mostly because Detroit lacks great alternatives. Pearson saw most of the first-team reps at minicamps, but he's still best suited for a special teams role. At 5'10/200, he probably wouldn't hold up as a full-time strong safety.

Two felony charges against Lions S Kalvin Pearson were dropped Monday in a Florida court.

Pearson was accused of aggravated and domestic battery by strangulation following an incident with his girlfriend in April. A misdemeanor charge of opposing an officer without violence is still pending against him.

Lions S Kalvin Pearson, arrested in Florida last week, is out of jail and taking part in the team's minicamp.

Pearson's future status with the Lions will depend on the outcome of his case and the NFL's subsequent punitive actions.

Lions S Kalvin Pearson was arrested on charges of domestic violence and domestic battery by strangulation early Saturday.

He faces two felony charges and a misdemeanor. Pearson, who signed in March to play special teams and be a backup safety, is in jail without bond.

Bucs declined to match S Kalvin Pearson's $3.5 million offer sheet, making Pearson a Detroit Lion.

We're interested to see what the Lions will do with all their safeties. Maybe one will move to middle linebacker. Pearson got a surprising $1.1 million signing bonus, so he's a virtual lock to make the club.

Lions signed restricted free agent S Kalvin Pearson to a three-year, $3.5 million offer sheet. The deal includes a $1.1 million signing bonus.

The Bucs have a ton of cap space and can match if they want, but we'd bet against Pearson staying in Tampa. They have seven days to decide. If the Bucs decline, the Lions will probably cut Kenoy Kennedy immediately.

Buccaneers S Kalvin Pearson reportedly turned down a one-year deal worth $927,000 from Tampa Bay.

Pearson made it clear he wants a multi-year deal, but Tampa Bay is deep at safety and Pearson is primarily a special teamer. Pearson wasn't drafted in 2004, so the Bucs won't get any draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere.

The Bucs are not expected to make restricted free agent S Kalvin Pearson a tender offer.

The special teamer wants a multi-year deal. The Bucs are well set at safety with Tanard Jackson, Jermaine Phillips, and Sabby Piscitelli under contract.

Bucs re-signed S Kalvin Pearson to a one-year contract.

Pearson can enter restricted free agency in 2008. A solid special teams performer, Pearson faces a long road to make the final roster with Will Allen, Jermaine Phillips, Sabby Piscitelli, and Tanard Jackson ahead of him.

Bucs S Kalvin Pearson limped off the field late in Sunday's game.

The return of Tampa's third safety is questionable.

Safety Kalvin Pearson left Sunday's game with an abdominal injury.

Pearson said afterward that X-rays showed a possible tear, but added that he didn't think it was "that bad." He'll undergo further tests Monday.

Kalvin Pearson may be on the verge of overtaking Jermaine Phillips for the Bucs' starting strong safety job.

Phillips posted a huge IDP day in Week 2 but has since struggled to tackle. The Bucs are expected to rotate the two at worst, which would hurt Phillips' once-promising fantasy value.
