Beat writer Mike Reiss believes free agent Brian Griese would be a good fit for the Patriots.

Even though Brian Griese's agent said "he wants to play," beat writer Brad Biggs doesn't think the Bears will reconnect with their former QB.

Griese played in seven games for the Bears in 2007 and led the team to a couple nice wins. But they seem to be comfortable right now with Caleb Hanie as the backup to Jay Cutler.

Bucs released QB Brian Griese.

Griese was never going to be a factor in the Bucs' quarterback competition. Now a free agent, he'll likely draw interest from teams as a backup. The Patriots are a possibility, as they could use a veteran behind Tom Brady and Griese has been drastically better out of the shotgun throughout his career.

The Bucs are reportedly holding out hope of dealing Brian Griese.

Good luck. Just because the Bucs surrendered a sixth-round pick to get him last offseason, that doesn't mean another team will be willing to do the same. Tampa has no room to carry Griese, so any interested teams can simply wait until he's released.

Bucs minicamp kicked off Tuesday with no sign of quarterback Brian Griese.

With spots on the roster being gobbled up by QBs Josh Freeman, Byron Leftwich, and Luke McCown, Griese's fate appears to have been determined. He's asking to be released immediately, which would allow him to market his services before and while training camp injuries strike.

The Bucs will release Brian Griese by the end of the week, according to FOXSports' Alex Marvez.

This is an anticipated move after Tampa re-signed Luke McCown, acquired Byron Leftwich in free agency, and drafted Josh Freeman 17th overall. Griese, 34, won't find a team willing to give him a chance to compete to start.

The Bucs don't expect QB Brian Griese to attend the first week of OTAs, which begin on Tuesday.

As Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times writes, "You may have seen the last of Brian Griese in a Tampa Bay uniform." The veteran apparently has no interest in competing for a job with the four other quarterbacks on the roster -- Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich, Josh Freeman and Josh Johnson.

The Bucs are expected to release one of their four quarterbacks before the start of training camp.

Byron Leftwich and Luke McCowh are safe, and there are no indications that the Bucs would give up on Josh Johnson. They could try to shop Brian Griese on draft day, but the overpaid 34-year-old is more likely to be cut this summer.

Brian Griese is absent from the Bucs' offseason conditioning program because his wife is eight months pregnant.

It's a plenty valid excuse to skip the voluntary sessions. Griese is due $2.1 million if he makes the opening day roster and would have little chance of getting that much elsewhere, so he'll likely show for anything mandatory.

Josh Johnson hears Griese "has other things going on," but is "pretty sure" he will be at the team facility soon. It's possible the Bucs have asked Griese to take a pay cut. He's due $2.1 million in salary and bonuses this year.

Luke McCown, Brian Griese, and Josh Johnson are signed. The Bucs have been linked to Josh Freeman and Derek Anderson, but were at the center of the rumor mill last spring too. If they add two QBs, Griese will be first to go.

Buccaneers declared QB Brian Griese, WR Dexter Jackson, QB Josh Johnson, LB Matt McCoy, LB Rod Wilson, T James Lee, LB Patrick Chukwurah, and DT Greg Peterson inactive for Week 16.

Jeff Garcia will start while Griese goes from starter to No. 3 quarterback one week later. Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Brooks is active for the Bucs.

Brian Griese completed 26-of-37 passes for 269 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Falcons in Week 15.

Showing a sidearm slingshot motion with little zip on the ball, Griese had trouble moving the Bucs into scoring territory. The veteran battled to keep his team in the game, but his popgun arm shackled the offense. Expect Jeff Garcia (calf) to resume starting next week against the Chargers.

The Bucs have announced that Brian Griese will start at QB against Atlanta on Sunday, replacing Jeff Garcia (calf).

Garcia warmed up prior to the game, but decided he couldn't go. Griese, who started some earlier in the season but was a turnover machine, is surprisingly getting the nod over usual backup Luke McCown. Don't downgrade Antonio Bryant, as Bryant played quite well during Griese's previous starting stint.

Bucs backup QB Brian Griese says he is mostly recovered from the elbow tendinitis that has plagued him for much of the past two months.

Griese had extensive involvement in practice behind Luke McCown this week, but he's likely to remain the No. 3 quarterback the rest of the season barring a setback to Jeff Garcia (calf).
