Lions CB Anthony Henry will start in place of Phillip Buchanon on Sunday in San Francisco.
The Lions are shaking up the defense and will also likely start rookie DeAndre Levy in the middle with former No. 1 pick Ernie Sims. Levy, a third-round pick out of Wisconsin, has 65 tackles and an interception in his first season. Buchanon has been a disappointment after getting a two-year contract in March. Lions declared CB Anthony Henry, third QB Drew Stanton, S Marvin White, FB Jerome Felton, G Manny Ramirez, G Daniel Loper, WR Calvin Johnson and DE Jason Hunter inactive for Week 8 against the Rams.

Henry appears to be a healthy scratch and won't even dress. The Lions' starting cornerbacks will be Phillip Buchanon and William James.

Coach Jim Schwartz revealed Tuesday that the Lions are again considering moving Anthony Henry to safety.

Ko Simpson appeared to be the answer at strong safety earlier this year, but he's been banged up for most of his time in Detroit. The Lions are going to be terrible against the pass no matter who's on the first-team secondary.

Lions LCB Anthony Henry was benched in favor of Phillip Buchanon on Sunday.

Henry started the game, but was pulled for giving up plays. The Lions have now benched both of their projected Week 1 starting corners (Buchanon also got the treatment earlier on). Henry finished with two tackles Sunday.

Anthony Henry will enter the season as the Lions' starting left cornerback, as expected.

No one's stepped up so Henry can move to strong safety, so he's their best option to book end Phillip Buchanon. Henry will be a solid IDP target in deep leagues. He's an efficient tackler and can make plays on the football.

Lions CB Anthony Henry is beginning to see some work at safety this week.

Henry explained that it was a temporary move with the safety corps suffering minor injuries in camp. It also allows Henry to gain flexibility if he's needed there in a pinch this season. His primary position will remain cornerback for now.

Beat writer Tom Kowalski now expects Anthony Henry to stay at cornerback, at least until the Lions can find another effective corner.

Eric King should be alright as the nickel back, but he would likely be stretched as Henry's replacement in the starting lineup. For now the starting defensive backfield looks like Henry and Phillip Buchanon at corner with Louis Delmas at free safety and a host of candidates at strong safety.

Lions beat writer Tom Kowalski reiterated Wednesday that he expects Anthony Henry to wind up at safety rather than corner.

Coach Jim Schwartz said Henry would stay at corner when he was acquired for Jon Kitna, but the belief is still that he'll be paired with rookie FS Louis Delmas. That could change if Daniel Bullocks, Kalvin Pearson, or Marquand Manuel steps up in August. Either way, this secondary looks shaky on paper.

Lions beat writer Tom Kowalski expects Anthony Henry to wind up at safety, not cornerback.

The Lions are much deeper at corner, and the aging Henry is stretched at the position. Coach Jim Schwartz has said he will make a final determination in training camp.

Anthony Henry says he is open to moving to safety if the Lions determine that's his best fit in their defense.

Henry, 32, will likely start out at RCB opposite Phillip Buchanon. He could move to free safety if Eric King or Keith Smith proves capable of starting. Gerald Alexander would be Detroit's starting FS if the season began today.

Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed that the Lions are considering moving Anthony Henry to safety.

Schwartz says he'll base Henry's position off "performance" in camp. The Lions might prefer Henry to emerge as their top corner, but he's turning 33 and the team needs a solution at free safety opposite SS Daniel Bullocks.

Cowboys traded DB Anthony Henry to the Lions for QB Jon Kitna.

The Lions did well to get help for their secondary since Kitna was going to be released shortly. Henry is stretched at cornerback, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Lions try him at safety.

Cowboys RCB Anthony Henry has formally been moved to safety in passing situations.

On nickel downs, Henry is now next to FS Ken Hamlin with Adam Jones, Terence Newman, and Orlando Scandrick rounding out the five DBs. This increases Henry's tackle potential some, but he's still a low-end IDP option.

Cowboys RCB Anthony Henry (quadriceps) is practicing and is expected to start in Week 9 against the Giants.

The Cowboys will struggle to cover Plaxico Burress if Henry isn't at full speed. Expect Henry to start opposite rookie Mike Jenkins on Sunday.

According to coach Wade Phillips, Cowboys CB Anthony Henry (quadriceps) "looked pretty good" in practice Wednesday.

Henry is still questionable for Week 9 and will need a strong showing Thursday to get the green light. Orlando Scandrick will step in if he's not ready.
