With Kevin and Pat Williams lost for the regular season, Ellis Wyms and Fred Evans will take over as Minnesota's starting defensive tackles.
If Pat's weight (317) on the team site is to be trusted, the Vikes have lost over 30 pounds up the middle. Wyms will play under tackle and rush the passer more, while Evans will attempt to draw double teams. The IDP who could really be hurt is RE Jared Allen, as he will be given all kinds of attention. Ellis Wyms' one-year contract with Minnesota is worth $1.5 million, including a $500,000 signing bonus.

He came way cheaper than Spencer Johnson, who Wyms will replace as the Vikes' little used third tackle behind Pat and Kevin Williams. Wyms, 28, is only two years older, has more production to his name, and can play three DL positions. The Bills gave Johnson a five-year, $17.5 million contract.

Vikings signed DL Ellis Wyms to a one-year contract.

Wyms, 29 in April, had five sacks as an on-and-off starter for Tampa Bay in 2006, but struggled for playing time with Seattle last year. While he can play end and tackle, Wyms likely won't be considered for the Vikes' vacancy at LE.

Free agent DT Ellis Wyms has visits set up with the Vikings and Titans for later this week.

Wyms, who did very little in Seattle last year, has already met with the Lions. Minnesota needs a third tackle after losing Spencer Johnson to Buffalo.

Seahawks agreed to terms with DT Ellis Wyms, formerly of the Bucs.

Wyms was somewhat of a surprise cut by Tampa Bay on Saturday, although his scheduled base salaries were enormous for a reserve. The 290-pound interior lineman isn't your prototypical run stuffer to replace Marcus Tubbs (torn ACL), but he'll be a handy backup behind Rocky Bernard.

Bucs DT Ellis Wyms (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday.

Wyms has missed the past three games. He should be back this week.

Despite sitting out Week 12, DT Ellis Wyms (ankle) is uncertain if he'll be able to play this week.

"It definitely gave me some time to make some strides in my recovery, but as for me playing Sunday, I'm not really sure," Wyms said. "I practiced, moved around some and felt a whole lot better. But practicing with no pads is a whole lot different than going out there against the Pittsburgh Steelers for four quarters."

DT Ellis Wyms (ankle) did not make the trip to Dallas with the Bucs.

Wyms will sit out a second straight game, which is good news for RBs Julius Jones and Marion Barber.

Bucs DT Ellis Wyms (ankle) is doubtful to play in Week 12.

Washington couldn't do much on the ground with Wyms sitting in Week 11, but we'd still have to think his loss is good news for Marion Barber III and Julius Jones. Jon Bradley will start inside for Tampa.

Bucs DT Ellis Wyms (ankle) is likely to be out again in Week 11.

Ladell Betts' matchup this weekend looks very enticing.

As expected, Bucs defensive starters Ellis Wyms, Shelton Quarles, and Simeon Rice are inactive for Monday night's game.

Emergency QB Luke McCown, CB Alan Zemaitis, T Donald Penn, G Jeb Terry, and WR Paris Warren are also down. Notre Dame alumnus Maurice Stovall appears to have passed Warren. Barrett Ruud will start at middle linebacker and Dewayne White at defensive end for Rice.

Bucs defensive tackle Ellis Wyms, questionable with an injured ankle, returned to practice without limitations Friday.

Wyms, who replaced Anthony "Booger" McFarland in the starting lineup, should play in Week 8. Simeon Rice (shoulder) practiced fully all week.

DT Ellis Wyms (ankle) missed practice Thursday for the second straight day.

Wyms is questionable to play this week against the Giants, which would leave the Bucs very thin on the defensive line.

Bucs DT Ellis Wyms has moved into the starting lineup.

Bucs placed DT Ellis Wyms on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, ending his season.

Wyms had 19 tackles in six games as a backup to starters Anthony McFarland and Chartric Darby. He's part of Tampa's long term plans.
