Raiders agreed to terms with Greg Spires.
The Bucs-Raiders pipeline continues to go both ways. Spires could be of use to Oakland as a reserve, but he's no lock to make the roster after missing six games last year. He'll compete with DEs Jay Richardson and Kalimba Edwards. Sat, May 10, 2008 04:14:00 PM

Bucs DE Greg Spires confirmed Wednesday that he has a torn left calf muscle and will be out another two-to-three weeks.

Spires initially believed he'd ruptured his Achilles' tendon, which for the 33-year-old may have been a career ending injury. Instead, the Bucs will keep him on the roster and hope he's able to help during the stretch run.

Bucs DE Greg Spires will be out for at least a few weeks with a calf sprain according to defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.

Spires had an MRI on Monday, so it's somewhat positive news that the team expects him to return this season. First-round rookie Gaines Adams will see increased playing time in his absence, but Greg White is likely to start.

Bucs usual DE Greg Spires could move to under tackle this season.

If Gaines Adams develops early, the move would make plenty of sense. Spires could then rotate with Kevin Carter and bolster the Bucs’ interior pass rush. Carter might also make a run at the starting left defensive end position.

Bucs defensive end Greg Spires is concerned he'll be cut after the team signed Kevin Carter to a four-year, $25 million contract on Monday.

It's believed the scenario is unlikely because $1.6 million of Spires' base pay is guaranteed. Still, Spires or Ellis Wyms may see a reduced role.

Bucs DE Greg Spires suffered a neck injury Sunday afternoon.

The Bucs can't afford to lose any more line starters on the defensive line. Spires' status will be updated at some point soon. Little-used rookie Julian Jenkins took over for Spires on Sunday.
