Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wouldn't rule out a Greg Ellis return.
"It's not unrealistic is the best way to say it," said Jones. Ellis spent the first 11 years of his career with the Boys before he was released last offseason. He had seven sacks with the Raiders in 2009 and could step into a third-down pass rushing role with Dallas. Brandon Williams is also in the mix for that spot. Sat, Mar 13, 2010 11:36:00 AM

Free agent DE Greg Ellis is open to returning to the Cowboys in a reserve role, according to his agent.

Ellis, 34, spent the first 11 years of his career with the Cowboys before signing with the Raiders for the 2009 season. Ellis had seven sacks in 14 games for the Raiders last year and would likely be used as a third-down pass rusher in Dallas.

Despite releasing him Monday, the Raiders reportedly may pursue free agent DE Greg Ellis again if he doesn't sign elsewhere before training camp.

Ellis' health is a concern after he battled shoulder and knee injuries for much of last year. He did have a pair of sacks in Week 15 at Denver. The 34-year-old figures to draw interest as a situational pass rusher before August.

Raiders released DE Greg Ellis.

Ellis, 34, led the Raiders with seven sacks a year ago, but broke down physically in late November and barely finished the season. Experienced in both the 3-4 and 4-3 schemes, he could help a team as a third-down pass rusher.

Raiders LE Greg Ellis (knee) is listed as doubtful for Week 13.

We'd call this an upgrade for Ben Roethlisberger, except that Ellis' rookie backup Matt Shaughnessy has shown plenty of promise in spot action this year. Shaughnessy will start at Pittsburgh and face off with RT Willie Colon.

Raiders DE Greg Ellis left Thursday's game with swelling in his knee and did not return.

"I don't know what happened," Ellis said. "I just know swelling, a lot of pressure going down my leg, going down my knee down my shin and my calf." Ellis had his knee drained at halftime. It's not known how long he will be sidelined.

Coach Tom Cable revealed that LE Greg Ellis had his shoulder scoped during the Raiders' Week 9 bye, in addition to his knee.

Two in-season surgeries is natural cause for concern for a 34-year-old player; Ellis' body could be giving up on him after 11 1/2 seasons in the league. Cable said Wednesday that Ellis is "questionable" to play in Week 10.

Raiders LE Greg Ellis is out indefinitely after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

Ellis has a Week 9 bye to begin his rehab, but may not recover quickly. He is 34 years old and has been dealing with arthritis in the joint. Trevor Scott and Matt Schaughnessy will play more if Ellis doesn't return for Week 10.

Raiders LE Greg Ellis is dealing with an arthritic condition in his knee.

It may limit him in some practices, but hasn't affected Ellis' production. The 34-year-old leads Oakland with four sacks and has a forced fumble. Through five games, Ellis has easily been the Raiders' most disruptive down lineman.

Raiders veteran DE Greg Ellis called out his teammates for a lack of discipline after Saturday's embarrassing 45-7 shellacking at the hands of the Saints.

"Guys, you can't stay out all night. Can’t expect to come in here and just turn it on," Ellis said. "This isn’t high school or college football. This is the best of the best in the NFL." This doesn't make us feel any better about Raiders such as JaMarcus Russell, who has had his work ethic and commitment questioned on multiple occasions.

The Patriots reportedly offered Greg Ellis a one-year, $1.5 million deal before he signed with the Raiders.

The 34-year-old Ellis chose the Raiders' three-year, $10 million offer with $5 million in guarantees over the chance to play with a Super Bowl contender. The Patriots may still be in the mix for a Derrick Burgess trade to shore up their pass rushing.

Coach Tom Cable believes Greg Ellis can be an every-down defensive end for the Raiders.

Ellis was already lining up with the first-team in his first practice since signing earlier in the week. Barring a Derrick Burgess trade, the two veterans figure to start at end with Trevor Scott as a situational pass rusher.

Raiders signed DE Greg Ellis to a three-year contract.

Ellis, turning 34 before the season, will move back to defensive end after playing OLB in Dallas over the last two years. While on paper this might look like another past-his-prime Raiders signing, Oakland needs pass rush help and Ellis has 20.5 sacks since 2006. It's a solid gamble for a team that needs to pressure the quarterback much more consistently. It also increases the chances of Oakland trading Derrick Burgess.

The 49ers "might" show interest in free agent DE/OLB Greg Ellis if he drops his asking price, according to beat reporter Matt Maiocco.

Ellis is known to prefer playing in a 4-3 scheme and San Francisco runs a 3-4, but it isn't like any teams are beating down the door to sign him. The 49ers could use a proven rusher behind Parys Haralson and Manny Lawson.

According to beat writer Chick Ludwig, the Bengals have no interest in free agent Greg Ellis.

It's good bet that DC Mike Zimmer has serious interest, considering their previous relationship and the Bengals' utter lack of a pass rush. But the team won't overpay for a veteran roadblock after they drafted Michael Johnson in the third round to fill that role.
