49ers backup DE Demetric Evans is out three weeks with a sprained shoulder.

Evans has just four tackles this season as a reserve lineman, so it's not a major loss. Rookie Ricky Jean-Francois is expected fill in as a rotational defensive lineman.

49ers signed DE Demetric Evans to a two-year, $3.8 million contract.

A career backup before '08, Evans is coming off his best season. He rang up only 3.5 sacks, but wasn't playing a penetrating role as the Redskins' left end and defended the run well. Evans will remain a poor bet for sacks as a Niner, but will keep LE Isaac Sopoaga fresh and kick to tackle in 4-3 looks.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the 49ers have signed free agent DL Demetric Evans to a two-year, $3.8 million contract.

The Redskins needed Evans much more, but they must've only been only offering about the minimum. In other words, "thanks for nothing." Evans was the Skins' most consistent end in 2008 and one of the main reasons they were competitive versus the run. They're left with Chris Wilson, Rob Jackson, Alex Buzbee, and perhaps 36-year-old Phillip Daniels behind Andre Carter.

Free agent DL Demetric Evans is expected to decide between the Redskins and 49ers by Friday.

The Niners discussed a two-year deal worth roughly $4M with Evans. The Skins may not be offering much more, but he'd be guaranteed to start there after Jason Taylor's release. Evans would be a rotational player in San Fran.

The 49ers offered free agent DL Demetric Evans a two-year deal, but he didn't sign and has left San Francisco.

Evans has returned to the D.C. area, possibly increasing the chances that he'll re-sign with Washington. The Redskins definitely could use him.

Free agent DL Demetric Evans' visit to San Francisco was pushed back to Tuesday.

Evans' flight was delayed, so he won't make it in on Monday. The Niners are looking at Evans as a 3-4 defensive end. He's coming from a 4-3 defense.

The 49ers have scheduled free agent visits with DL Demetric Evans and FB Moran Norris.

They want Norris back to lead block for Frank Gore. Mike Martz got rid of Norris last year because he couldn't catch. Evans isn't ideally built to play end in the Niners' 3-4 defense, but could fill a Marques Douglas-like role.

The Washington Post confirms that the Redskins will allow DL Demetric Evans to test the free agent waters.

The Skins appear hellbent on starting Jason Taylor at left end next season despite his woeful 2008 campaign. Evans was the team's best run-stuffing end, but Washington thinks Taylor still has more upside as a pass rusher.

Redskins free agent DE Demetric Evans wants to be a starter in 2009.

Evans has been a valuable and versatile reserve for five years, but now wants to be a full-time player. He isn't much of a pass rusher, however, and the 'Skins may not be able to promise him both a starting gig and a dramatic increase in salary.
Wed, Feb 18, 2009 12:11:00 PM

Contract-year DE Demetric Evans says he hopes to re-sign with the Redskins.

Evans, who played ahead of future HOFer Jason Taylor throughout 2008, should be one of Washington's priorities before the free agency period. He's not yet 30, versatile enough to play tackle, and a highly effective run stopper.

Redskins DL Demetric Evans is expected to start in place of the injured Jason Taylor.

Erasmus James and Chris Wilson will also see time in a rotation at left defensive end. The Cowboys will likely focus on Andre Carter at right end with Taylor out.
