Panthers signed DT Colin Cole.
Cole, an eight-year veteran, was last heard from in July of 2011 when he was battling ankle issues. The run-stuffing defensive tackle has 218 career tackles and 4.5 sacks. He was last with the Seahawks, starting 26 games from 2009-10. Carolina is annually in search of space eaters, so Cole -- last listed at 6-foot-2, 328 -- is worth a look. He's going on 33, but should be fresh after the 2012 layoff. Feb 8 - 8:07 AM

Seahawks NT Colin Cole revealed that he underwent surgery on his left ankle a few weeks ago.

Cole's foot is still in a boot, and he doesn't expect to be cleared by team doctors for training camp. The Seattle Times reported in mid-April that Cole was recovering from a left ankle scope after playing with the injury in December. Cole's own timetable suggests this latest procedure is a follow-up. He's a good bet to open training camp on the PUP list.

Seahawks NT Colin Cole is recovering from surgery to clean out his left ankle.

Cole missed six games in November and December with a severely sprained ankle. There's no word on the extent of the procedure, though it sounds like a scope. With offseason practices up in the air, Cole should have plenty of time for rest and recuperation before training camp starts.

The Seahawks have allowed 80 rushing yards per game when both NT Colin Cole (ankle) and Brandon Mebane have been in the lineup and 149 rushing yards a game when they haven't.

Luckily for the Seahawks, they're expected to get Cole back this weekend, and he'll be paired with Mebane for the first time in over two months. So while that 21st-ranked run defense might look like a pretty good matchup for Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon, it's certainly deceiving. Neither 49ers running back is a particularly enticing fantasy option.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll expects NT Colin Cole (ankle) to return in Week 14.

Cole has missed the last six games with a severely sprained ankle, but he'll practice fully Wednesday and should suit up against the 49ers. It'll be a big boost for Seahawks' run defense, as Cole had been an integral part of the line before going down with the injury.

Seahawks NT Colin Cole is out indefinitely with what coach Pete Carroll described as a "severe" ankle injury.

It sounds like a high sprain. Like Red Bryant, Cole has been one of the keys to Seattle's success in run defense. Ahmad Bradshaw's Week 9 matchup has received a shot in the arm with Cole out and Bryant on injured reserve.

Seahawks DT Colin Cole (ankle) might not be able to play in Week 9.

Cole sprained his ankle in the loss to the Raiders. His injury comes at a bad time, as Red Bryant blew out his knee and Brandon Mebane may or may not be ready to return this weekend.

Seahawks signed DT Colin Cole to a five-year, $21 million contract.

Cole was a productive Packers sub for the last four years, averaging 30 tackles a season with four sacks. At 6'1/330 he has the bulk to run plug, but Cole will likely be an every-down player in Seattle. He has no experience in a full-time role and turns 29 in June. The Seahawks didn't break the bank here, but they are still taking a sizable leap of faith.

Free agent DT Colin Cole is in Seattle speaking with the Seahawks.

Cole will probably get overpaid, but he's a useful rotation player who can help stop the run. Seattle certainly needs some bulk up front.

The Bucs are reportedly in discussions with free agent DT Colin Cole.

The 6-1, 330-pounder was expected to attract plenty of attention on the free agent market with so many teams switching to a 3-4 defense. Though the Bucs aren't going 3-4, the run-stuffer would be a good fit as an interior lineman in Jim Bates' new defense.

Contrary to previous reports, the Packers are trying to re-sign DT Colin Cole before he makes it to free agency later this week.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Cole "plays very square" and believes he can play nose in the new 3-4 scheme. He turned down a three-year, $7 million offer in December and wants to test his value on the open market.

Impending free agent DT Colin Cole reportedly turned down a three-year, $7 million contract offer from Green Bay in December.

Cole, built stoutly at 6'1/330, was often the club's most active defensive tackle in games despite not starting. He'll do much better on the open market.

Restricted free agent DT Colin Cole signed his second-round tender on Thursday.

Cole, who was originally undrafted, will make $1.417 million this season. He'll re-assume a role as a reserve tackle.

The Packers will extend a second-round ($1.417 million) tender to restricted free agent DT Colin Cole.

Cole needed this higher tender because he was originally undrafted. The Pack would've received no compensation had he signed an offer elsewhere and they failed to match. Cole (6'2/330) is a valuable run stopping reserve.
Thu, Feb 28, 2008 12:20:00 PM

Packers placed DT Colin Cole on injured reserve with a fractured forearm, ending his season.

The 330-pound Cole's loss will hurt Green Bay's interior depth, but the Packers are pretty stacked behind starters Corey Williams and Ryan Pickett. Cole will be an interesting restricted free agent this coming offseason.
