The Packers worked out free agent DT Tony Brown this week.
The Packers were probably just doing due diligence, but it's notable that Brown has spent the season out of football. Just a couple of years from being one of the league's better pass-rushing tackles, Brown's career has been derailed by several knee surgeries. He will likely catch on somewhere this offseason. Former Titans DT Tony Brown is recovering from microfracture surgery on his knee.

This explains the Titans' impatience with Brown, who was released immediately after the lockout. Still only 30, Brown is reportedly going through a "grueling regimen" that includes swinging sledgehammers, running ladders, and tossing medicine balls as he seeks medical clearance from Dr. James Andrews next week. He was one of the NFL's top interior pass rushers in 2009.

Titans released DT Tony Brown.

Brown signed a three-year, $17 million deal with the Titans last offseason that included $7.5 million in the first year. But knee woes crippled him and he failed a physical this week. It's possible that Brown had more damage in his knees than a mere scope could cure.

Titans DT Tony Brown is "85 percent" recovered from late-season arthroscopic knee surgery.

Dr. James Andrews handed down a target date of July 1, and Brown is on schedule to be "95 percent" by July 15. He sounds like a candidate to be eased in during training camp. The Titans picked up three defensive tackles in the draft as insurance against Brown's balky knees.

According to the Nashville Tennessean, the Titans "aren't sure" what they're going to get from DT Tony Brown in 2011.

This would explain multiple defensive tackle picks in the draft, plus the Titans' public interest in adding more help via free agency. Brown has undergone three surgeries in as many offseasons, the last two performed on his right knee. It wouldn't be surprising if there's a major long-term concern here.

Titans DT Tony Brown recently had arthroscopic knee surgery.

Brown played in just 11 games because of knee trouble, compiling 3 1/2 sacks. He also had a knee procedure a year ago. Brown will earn $4 million in 2011, the second season of a three-year deal he signed last offseason.

Titans placed DT Tony Brown on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

Though he's missed only a couple games, Brown has dealt with a knee injury for much of the season, which has been a big blow to the Titans' defensive line. He will almost surely have surgery on one, and possibly both, knees. Jovan Haye moves up the depth chart.

The player rep for DT Tony Brown "wouldn't be surprised" if Brown is shut down for the season with a knee injuries.

"He is banged up. He is a fighter, and he won't come out or tell you he's hurt," said the agent. "But Tony is not the same Tony right now." Brown will need to have one knee scoped after the season, and possibly both. He's started 11 of 13 games while dealing with the knee pain.

Titans DT Tony Brown aggravated his knee injury early in Sunday's loss to the Texans and did not return.

Brown has been struggling with this knee injury for most of the year, which is a big blow to the Titans' front seven. Brown is one of the more underrated defensive linemen in the league.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said the bye week really helped DT Tony Brown (knee), who has missed the last two games.

"I think (the bye week) really helped him," Fisher said. "We've changed his routine, modified some things. He's taken advantage of the time and feels really good right now." It sounds like Brown has a good shot to return in Week 10 and he'll be inserted back into the starting lineup when ready.

Titans DT Tony Brown (knee) and DE William Hayes (knee) are both listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Darren McFadden ran wild with Hayes out last week. Though Rashard Mendenhall is a must start, adjust your expectations accordingly.

Brown is expected to see action in the preseason finale as a tuneup for Week 1. He'll return to his starting spot next to Jason Jones, who has bypassed the undersized Jovan Haye.

Tony Brown's new three-year contract with the Titans is worth $17 million, with $7.5 million in the first season.

Though Brown could stand to improve his run defense, the 29-year-old gap shooter should play out the contract and remain an effective pass rusher throughout. Considering the money that Tommy Kelly is stealing in Oakland and Marcus Stroud's $7M/year deal in Buffalo, it's a good deal for Tennessee.
