Texans signed NT Vince Wilfork, formerly of the Patriots, to a two-year, $9 million contract.
The deal has $5 million guaranteed. Even at age 33, Wilfork remains one of the NFL's premier run stuffers, grading out as a top-six run-defending 3-4 end in PFF's 2014 grades. Wilfork will kick back to nose tackle under Texans DC Romeo Crennel, who was Wilfork's defensive coordinator in his rookie year (2004). Wilfork fills a huge need on Houston's nose-less defensive line. He should also be an exceptional mentor for sophomore NT Louis Nix. Mar 16 - 3:32 PM

Free agent Vince Wilfork has arrived in Houston for a two-day visit with the Texans.

Wilfork seems like a virtual lock to play for the Texans, where he is familiar with the coaching staff and would fill a glaring need. Houston used washed-up Ryan Pickett at nose tackle in 2014, struggling in run defense. Wilfork, 33, primarily played defensive end in New England's 3-4 last season, but was a top-six run defender there according to Pro Football Focus' grades.

Free agent NT Vince Wilfork's agent says his client will "take his time" choosing a new team.

Agent Kennard McGuire intimated the Texans were the front runners, saying Wilfork values his "familiarity" with the organization. Wilfork played under coach Bill O'Brien and DC Romeo Crennel in New England, and he played with Texans LB coach Mike Vrabel. McGuire added "there are about five or six other teams" interested in Wilfork, but Houston is the odds-on favorite for the former All-Pro.

The Houston Chronicle expects free agent Vince Wilfork to sign with the Texans.

The Texans are the frontrunners to land Wilfork, who has history with their coaching staff. He was the Patriots' first-round pick in 2004 under former DC Romeo Crennel, and would fill Houston's need for a nose tackle. Wilfork is entering his age-34 season, but remains one of the league's better run stoppers.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent Vince Wilfork hasn't ruled out re-signing with the Patriots.

Yahoo's Charles Robinson has reported the same. Wilfork has also been connected to the Texans, where coach Bill O'Brien is harvesting former Patriots. If Wilfork can swallow his pride, returning to the Pats on a reduced deal is his best option if he wants a serious shot at another Super Bowl ring.

The Texans are expected to pursue free agent DL Vince Wilfork.

Wilfork has history with Texans coach Bill O'Brien, whose defense needs a nose tackle. Wilfork is going on age 34, but still has run-stopping ability.

Vince Wilfork announced on Twitter the Patriots will not be picking up his 2015 option, making him a free agent.

New England saves $8.06 million against the cap by moving on from one of their all-time greats. With all of the Patriots' other offseason commitments (Devin McCourty, Darrelle Revis, etc.), Wilfork had to see this coming. Big Vince said he is not considering retirement, and coming off a decent run-stopping season, we wouldn't expect him to. It will be interesting to see how the market shapes out for the 33-year-old. Wilfork went to five Pro Bowls during his 11-year stay in Foxboro and won two Super Bowls. The Patriots drafted his possible replacement, Dom Easley, in the first round last year.
Mar 5 - 9:11 AM

Vince Wilfork is due a $4 million roster bonus on March 10.

Wilfork's salary cap hit is $8.1 million, hefty for a player in his mid-30s. Wilfork has been a dominant run-stopper throughout his career, and has always been a fan favorite in New England. Of course, that means little to Bill Belichick, who has never been afraid to trade or release popular players. The Patriots have been down this road before with Wilfork. Last offseason he cleaned out his locker after the Patriots asked him to restructure his contract. He ultimately agreed to a three-year, $22.5 million extension. New England also has to decide whether to pick up Darrelle Revis' $20 million option.

Speaking in a Thursday radio interview, Vince Wilfork said he has every intention to continue playing.

"There's no way in the world this is my last season," Wilfork said. "I still have a lot of football left in me." Coming off a year cut short by a torn Achilles', a 33-year-old Wilfork was effective in 2014, playing 766 snaps and stymying the run. The 11-year veteran is signed through 2016.

ESPN Boston believes Vince Wilfork is playing at an even higher level than he was before tearing his Achilles'.

Wilfork has dropped some weight and is quicker on his feet. He's played 50 snaps this preseason as an early-down lane clogger. The Patriots need Wilfork to stay healthy, as they enter 2014 with not much experience behind he and Tommy Kelly. New England could field a top-five fantasy defense.

Patriots NT Vince Wilfork (Achilles') is practicing without restriction.

Wilfork will likely he held out of some 11-on-11s, but he's full steam ahead for Week 1. That being said, we'd expect him to see very limited action in the preseason. There's simply no reason for the Patriots to take the risk.

Patriots NT Vince Wilfork (Achilles') is on track to be ready for training camp.

Wilfork is participating in individual drills at OTAs and has progressed to some 11-on-11s. He tore his Achilles' in September, but there hasn't been any setbacks. Even if Wilfork misses practice time, his Week 1 status isn't in doubt.

Patriots NT Vince Wilfork (Achilles') is participating in individual drills at OTAs.

Wilfork tore his Achilles' in late September. He's working on the side at OTAs, along with fellow DT Tommy Kelly (ACL). Wilfork is questionable for the start of training camp but should be ready in plenty of time for Week 1. The 32-year-old lane clogger is entering his 11th season with New England.

Updating an earlier item, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Vince Wilfork's "three-year, $22.5 million deal" is essentially a one-year, $8 million contract.

The final two years are option years. As for Wilfork's "$8 million," only $3 million of it is guaranteed. The remaining $5 million is tied up in playing-time incentives, albeit ones Wilfork is expected to reach if he's healthy. It's a good deal for both sides, allowing Wilfork to save face while protecting the Pats in case he hits a speed bump in his recovery from a torn Achilles' tendon.

Patriots agreed to terms with DT Vince Wilfork on a new three-year, $22.5 million contract.

According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, only $3 million is guaranteed, but Wilfork could make up to $8 million in 2014 through incentives. It's a rare happy ending for a veteran in New England after Wilfork reportedly demanded his release earlier this month. Wilfork was upset that the Patriots had asked him to rework the final year of his contract, which called for $7.5 million. Going on 33, Wilfork was limited to four games by a torn Achilles' tendon last season. With the Pats since 2004, it's possible Wilfork won't play out his new contract.
