Lions agreed to terms with S Sean Jones, formerly of the Bucs, on a one-year contract.

The Lions hosted Jones in early May. Jones was a 16-game starter for the Bucs each of the past two seasons, and has started 85 games since 2006. He was brutal both in coverage and against the run for Tampa's 32nd ranked scoring defense last season, however, and has just one pick in his past 32 games. He'll compete with Amari Spievey and Erik Coleman at strong safety. Jones' signing throws cold water on coach Jim Schwartz's weekend praise of Coleman.

The Lions recently hosted free agent S Sean Jones.

A 32-game starter over the past two seasons with Tampa, Jones' market has been painfully slow this offseason. Jones had the look of an early-career playmaker with back-to-back years of five interceptions in '06 and '07, but he hasn't been the same since. He'd push Amari Spievey for a starting job in Detroit.

Sean Jones has beaten out Sabby Piscitelli for the Buccaneers starting strong safety job.

Jones overtook Piscitelli a few weeks ago and never looked back. He remains a great sleeper in IDP leagues.

Sean Jones has formally overtaken Sabby Piscitelli to be the Bucs' starter at strong safety.

Tampa Bay's coaching staff tried to give the incumbent Piscitelli a chance to seize the job over the free agent pickup Jones, but Piscitelli came up short. Behind a leaky Bucs front seven, Jones has IDP sleeper written all over him.

The Bucs will decide between Sean Jones and Sabby Piscitelli for the starting strong safety spot after Saturday's preseason game with the Chiefs.

Jones will draw the starting assignment Saturday after Piscitelli started last week. Jones was brought in over the offseason after Piscitelli struggled last year, so we're fully expecting Jones to come away with the gig. The winner will be a great IDP sleeper behind Tampa Bay's leaky front seven.

PewterReport.com writer Wolf Heard says the competition for the Bucs starting SS job between Sabby Piscitelli and Sean Jones is wide open.

We still believe Jones will ultimately end up the starter, as the team didn't bring him on board for two years to sit on the bench. Neither player figures to have any IDP value.

Beat writer Stephen Holder confirms that Sean Jones is fully expected to be the Bucs starting strong safety on opening day.

The Bucs keep saying that there is a competition between Jones and Sabby Piscitelli, but the reality is that Jones was brought in to be the starter. He's a major upgrade in run defense and playmaking.

Sean Jones and Sabby Piscitelli are splitting first-team reps at strong safety during offseason workouts.

This is likely just a simple case of the throwing the incumbent a bone on his way down the depth chart. We expect the big-hitting Jones to win the job and upgrade the Bucs' run defense. He'll have to prove he's not a liability in coverage to be an every-down player.

Sean Jones' deal with the Bucs is for two years, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Jones' arrival likely means the Bucs will pass on Tennessee's Eric Berry at No. 3 overall, but it shouldn't stop them from addressing safety later in the draft. Jones is a hard hitter and excels in the box but struggled badly in coverage lat season.

Bucs signed S Sean Jones to an undisclosed contract.

Contract terms are not yet known. With SS Sabby Piscitelli's starting job open to competition, Jones chose the Bucs over the Titans. His signing will likely take Tennessee's Eric Berry out of the running at No. 3 overall.

Radio station 620 WDAE in Tampa is reporting the Bucs have signed S Sean Jones.

The Tampa Tribune calls the report "definitely premature," so we're awaiting confirmation. Jones was negotiating with the Bucs and possibly the Titans earlier in the day. He has a better chance to start in Tampa, where he'd be favored to knock off Sabby Piscitelli for the starting strong safety job.

The Bucs are currently negotiating with free agent S Sean Jones.

Jones left Tennessee without a deal on Monday, allowing the Bucs to make their move. If signed, Jones would compete with Sabby Piscitelli for the starting strong safety job.

The Titans are scheduled to host free agent S Sean Jones on Monday.

Jones visited the Bucs on Friday. He's expected to choose between those two teams and an unnamed other one after two visits next week. His best chance of starting is in Tampa, where Sabby Piscitelli could move to a reserve role.

The Buccaneers will host free agent S Sean Jones on Friday.

Coach Raheem Morris is intent on replacing incumbent SS Sabby Piscitelli. The Bucs have also been connected to Gibril Wilson and Brodney Pool. Ideally, Piscitelli would be the Bucs' third safety while focusing on special teams.
