The severity is unknown, but it's Hardwick's third-known concussion since entering the league in 2004. Pro Football Focus' 12th ranked center last season, Hardwick hasn't missed a game since 2009. His status is uncertain for Week 1. Tue, Aug 21, 2012 09:27:00 PM

Chargers re-signed C Nick Hardwick to a three-year, $13.5 million contract.

It's the first step in GM A.J. Smith's goal to fix an offensive line that was in tatters last season. Turning 31 just before the season opener, Hardwick is no longer an asset in the run game but receives high marks for keeping pressure off of Philip Rivers. The Bolts will have to turn their attention to re-signing Jared Gaither on the blindside.

In addition to free agent LT Jared Gaither, the Chargers have begun contract talks to retain free agent C Nick Hardwick.

If the Bolts get both signed before the free agency period, they could enter the heart of the offseason with a front five of LT Gaither, LG Tyronne Green, C Hardwick, RG Luis Vasquez, and RT Jeromy Clary while using the draft to find competition. Gaither is currently the priority, but Hardwick isn't far behind.

The North County Times confirms that offensive line remains the Chargers' top priority this offseason.

The team tentatively expects LG Kris Dielman (concussions) back and hopes to re-sign free agent C Nick Hardwick. The Bolts figure to release LT Marcus McNeill, entering the bidding war for Jared Gaither instead. While the front office is "high on" FBs Mike Tolbert and Jacob Hester, the Times confirms other reports that it's a "virtual certainty" Vincent Jackson will escape the franchise tag.

Free agent C Nick Hardwick confirmed Monday that he plans to continue playing after briefly considering retirement after the season.

Hardwick is only 30, so he should have gas left in the tank from an age perspective, at least. According to Pro Football Focus, however, Hardwick was too often overpowered in the running game last year. The Chargers will likely look to re-sign Hardwick, but only at the right price. The San Diego Union-Tribune also expects LG Kris Dielman to put off retirement for one more year.

Chargers C Nick Hardwick revealed Wednesday that he will consider retiring this offseason.

An impending free agent, Hardwick is only 30 years old. "We’ll weigh the options, see where we’re at, see how I feel when we’re done," he said. "... You see the older guys, the alumni who have long-term issues, and it makes you think. It’s not scary; it’s just part of weighing the decision." The Chargers may also lose LG Kris Dielman to retirement, and LT Marcus McNeill's career may be threatened by ongoing neck and back problems.

Chargers center Nick Hardwick left Monday's game in the first half due to a neck injury, but returned in the third quarter and finished the game.

Hardwick is one of the better centers in the league, and backup Colin Baxter is just a replacement-level talent. With the Chargers offensive line already maligned, losing Hardwick could be a fatal blow.

Chargers C Nick Hardwick (ankle) came out of Friday night's game in good shape.

Hardwick, who had been out since Week 1, stepped right back in and didn't miss a beat. "I felt like I could go full throttle," Hardwick said. This is huge for the Chargers' offense as they prepare for a possible Super Bowl run. Hardwick is one of the better centers in the league.

Chargers C Nick Hardwick (ankle) will start Friday night's game against the Titans, NFL.com's Jason La Canfora confirms.

Hardwick is "questionable" on the injury report, but practiced fully all week and will make his long-awaited return. He should help LaDainian Tomlinson, who faces a Titans defense down both of its starting outside linebackers.

Chargers C Nick Hardwick (ankle) is expected to return to the lineup against the Titans Friday.

Barring a setback, Hardwick will be ready to go just in time. The Chargers lost his backup, Scott Mruczkowski to an ankle injury. Hardwick has not played since Week 1 but should give the Chargers' inside running game a boost.

Chargers C Nick Hardwick (ankle) is not expected to resume playing for another 2-3 weeks.

Hardwick recently had a setback in his recovery from early-season ankle surgery. His absence was initially a big loss for the Bolts, but they've found a rhythm in the running game lately with Scott Mruczkowski starting.

Chargers coach Norv Turner said that C Nick Hardwick (ankle) will not start against the Browns Sunday, but there's a chance he can play.

Scott Mruczkowski gets another start in place of Hardwick, who has been out since Week 1. The two centers split the reps on Wednesday. Hardwick appears on track to take back his job full time in Week 14.
