Thomas was in a direct competition with former first-round pick Jason Allen for the final cornerback spot. Allen will likely be limited to special teams duty now that he's made the team.

Miamia's staff knows Thomas well from preseason and their days together in Dallas. He'll play special teams and possibly move into dime packages.

Thomas, who was drafted in the third round in 2004, hasn't played in the league since 2005. He was in camp with the Cowboys last year, but was one of the final cuts.

Saints claimed former Packers CB Joey Thomas off waivers.

New Orleans was one of five teams to attempt claiming the former third-rounder. San Francisco didn't get him because they won last Sunday. He could eventually make a difference in an underrated Saints secondary.

Cornerback Joey Thomas was released by Green Bay today.

Thomas a third round pick in 2004 out of Montana State was upset about being benched this weekend after being burned on a play against the Bengals. He will likely be added by another team quickly.

No major surprises. Ahmad Carroll will start for Thomas at cornerback. The Packers defense could be in trouble.

Joey Thomas (headaches) missed practice Friday and remains probable for week three.

Thomas suffered a head injury while tackling Reuben Droughns. ''I've got to get my head cleared,'' Thomas said. ''I get headaches. It's feeling real drowsy, real sleepy. Not being able to focus all the time. It's almost like you've been drinking but you haven't been drinking.''

CB Joey Thomas (concussion) sat out practice yesterday and the Packers are unsure when he'll return.

''Hopefully, tomorrow I won't have any symptoms and I'll be able to practice,'' Thomas said. ''All I can do is take Ibuprofen and stuff and kind of let things run its course. God willing, I'll play and be straight. It's not something you want to mess around with. Not at all.''

One week after taking over for CB Ahmad Carroll as a starter, CB Joey Thomas may be in danger of giving the job back.

Thomas gave up the 80-yard touchdown to WR Braylon Edwards. “Our corner is a fast corner and that should not have been a problem,” coach Mike Sherman said. “That was revealing.”

Like it or not, the Packers will probably have to go with last year's first-round pick Ahmad Carroll as a starter.

At this point, cornerback Joey Thomas is the favorite to start at cornerback over Ahmad Carroll.

Carroll, last year's first round pick, has endured a poor offseason. Green Bay's secondary looks shaky at best.

The team really has no one to play the position well right now. Thomas would be small for a safety, but is rangy and could be a ball hawk.
