Out of football last season, Hargrove's deal with the Cowboys is for the veteran's minimum. Hargrove was worried he'd never get another job. "I understand how this game works," Hargrove said. "And when you don’t have a year of film, people are less inclined to bring you in, because they don’t have enough film to evaluate you on." Anthony Hargrove - DL - Cowboys

Cowboys signed DL Anthony Hargrove, formerly of the Packers.

Hargrove spent last summer with the Packers, but he was suspended eight games for his part in the Saints' Bountygate scandal and didn't latch on elsewhere after being released in August. He has the ability to play inside and outside and has 19.5 career sacks in seven seasons. Hargrove will bring some much-needed beef to the Dallas defensive line if he can make the team.

Green Bay signed Hargrove to a one-year deal for the vet minimum at $825,000, but he wasn't going to play in the first eight games anyway due to a Bounty Scandal suspension. They'll move forward with rookie Jerel Worthy as an interior pass rusher in the nickel. Ryan Picket and C.J. Wilson are the starters.

Packers DL Anthony Hargrove has been suspended eight games for his role in the Saints' bounty scandal.

Hargrove's suspension was more harsh than those of DE Will Smith (4 games) and LB Scott Fujita (3 games) because the NFL determined that he "actively obstructed" the league's investigation by being untruthful to officials. Hargrove also laid the infamous brutal hit on Brett Favre in the NFC Championship game. He had signed a one-year, $825,000 contract with Green Bay in late March.

Hargrove, 28, has been primarily an interior pass rusher in recent seasons, but the Packers will likely give him a look as a right end in the role once filled by Cullen Jenkins. The Packers can't count on Mike Neal after a four-game PEDs suspension, and C.J. Wilson and Jarius Wynn are "just guys." Hargrove can get after the quarterback when his head is on straight. The Packers remain interested in DL Dave Tollefson, who is visiting on Thursday.

Free agent DT Anthony Hargrove has hinted he's on the verge of signing with the Packers.

"Not official, but like I said green and yellow," Hargrove tweeted Sunday. "Can't wait for my first Lambeau Leap." Green Bay is Hargrove's only known visit since the beginning of free agency. A deal should be struck within the next 48 hours.

Signed by the Seahawks just two days before the start of the season in 2011, Hargrove went on to notch 18 tackles and three sacks in 15 games, none of which were starts. Four months shy of his 29th birthday, he'd be a situational pass rusher in Green Bay.

Still just 28 years old, the versatile Hargrove racked up six sacks and three forced fumbles as an interior rusher with New Orleans in 2009-2010. Hargrove has been informed that he'll be active for Week 1. The Seahawks figure to use him at defensive tackle on passing downs, spelling "3-technique" Alan Branch.

Capable of playing both end and tackle, Hargrove provides the Eagles with a versatile reserve option along their defensive line. He appeared to take a step back as a pass rusher last season, but did show improvement as a run stopper. He's a solid signing for a team that's made a number of them this summer.

Although Hargrove's preference is to re-sign with the Saints, he realizes there may not be a fit now that Shaun Rogers and Cameron Jordan are on the roster. "I love New Orleans, but we've all seen the transactions," Hargrove said. "That kind of paints a picture for you."

Hargrove played the last two seasons in the 290s as a rotational defensive tackle for New Orleans. Hargrove's sack total fell from five in 2009 to one, though he did force two fumbles. According to Pro Football Focus, Hargrove did improve as a run defender. Still 28 years old with versatility, he will draw interest when free agency begins.

It's unclear whether the Lions are going to make a move for Hargrove, though we suspect that they won't with one of the draft's top defensive tackles likely headed to Motown. Hargrove, 27 before the season, racked up an impressive 42 tackles, five sacks, and three fumble recoveries off the bench in New Orleans last year. He'll remain heavily involved in the team's nickel defense.

The move will either allow the Saints and Lions to work out a trade for less than the requisite third-round compensation New Orleans would've gotten had Detroit signed Hargrove to an offer sheet, or indicates that he'll be staying with the Saints. Darryl Tapp signed his one-year restricted free agent tender just a day before he was shipped from Seattle to Philadelphia.
