Lions released CB Nathan Vasher.
Signed last September, Vasher performed better than expected for the Lions, notching 19 tackles and an interception in 14 appearances at nickel back. However, he became expendable after Alphonso Smith's broken foot healed up in time for the regular season. Sat, Sep 3, 2011 01:44:00 PM

According to the Detroit Free-Press' Carlos Monarrez, "it would be hard to argue the Lions aren't excited about (CB Nathan Vasher)."'s Tom Kowalski speculated earlier this month that Vasher's roster spot isn't guaranteed, so there's some dissension over how high the Lions are on their 29-year-old corner, who started five games in 2010 after signing in September. He'll be looking to be named Detroit's primary nickel back this summer.

CB Nathan Vasher isn't guaranteed a spot in Detroit's 2011 secondary.

Vasher is currently set to be the Lions' primary nickel back, but they have not ruled out bringing in some competition via free agency. Competent in the same role last season, Vasher has a decent shot at cracking Detroit's 53-man roster this summer.

Lions re-signed CB Nathan Vasher to a one-year contract.

Vasher, 29, appeared in 14 games last season, making five starts but playing mostly as a nickel back. He picked off one pass in 352 snaps, covering at a league-average level. The Lions should hope for an upgrade in 2011.

Lions signed CB Nathan Vasher, formerly of the Chargers.

Vasher, 28, was beaten out in Bolts training camp by Dante Hughes. With nickel back Aaron Berry (shoulder) out indefinitely, Vasher could assume the role as soon as this week. Detroit's secondary, as usual, is in shambles.

The Lions reportedly worked out free agent CB Nathan Vasher on Thursday.

The Lions are constantly on the lookout for secondary help. Unfortunately, Vasher has been an asset in coverage for several years. He's on a sharp decline.

Chargers released CB Nathan Vasher.

Bad news for Vasher, who has now been cut by both the Bears and the Chargers this offseason. He couldn't beat out Donald Strickland for the nickel job and it's obvious his skills are on major decline. The Chargers decided to go with Fred Bennett instead.

With Chargers RCB Antonie Cason (hamstring) sidelined, Nathan Vasher has stepped in as a first-team corner.

Donald Strickland may very well end up as the Chargers' primary nickel back, but Vasher is the man if Cason or Quentin Jammer goes down. A fresh start out of Chicago should do Vasher well.

Chargers signed CB Nathan Vasher to a two-year contract worth roughly $4.5 million.

Vasher, 28, was once known as a game-changing, big-play corner, but has just three interceptions in his last three years and seems to have lost most of his speed. He'll compete with Donald Strickland to be the Bolts' nickel back.

The Chargers are close to signing free agent CB Nathan Vasher, according to beat writer Kevin Acee.

Vasher is a name, but he's no longer a starting-level NFL corner. He'll merely give the Bolts' secondary depth behind Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason. Vasher played for Chargers' defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and secondary coach Steve Wilks in Chicago.

The Chargers are showing interest in free agent CB Nathan Vasher.

As suspected, Bolts defensive boss Ron Rivera would like to bring in the former All-Pro to see what he's got left. Behind Antoine Cason and Quentin Jammer, San Diego could use competition for new nickel back Donald Strickland.

Bears released CB Nathan Vasher.

Vasher, due $3M and ineffective several seasons running, was never going to make the roster out of training camp, so GM Jerry Angelo cut the chord early. Vasher, 29, was an All-Pro in 2005, when current Chargers DC Ron Rivera was running Chicago's offense. San Diego is also dangerously thin at corner.

Bears GM Jerry Angelo confirmed that CB Nathan Vasher will stay on the roster at least until training camp.

Vasher isn't due an offseason roster bonus, so his roster spot is safe for now despite ineffective play several years running. "We paid him his money, so it doesn’t behoove us to let him go," said Angelo. "We’re going to take him to training camp." Vasher shouldn't be counted on for any role in 2010.

Beat writer Dan Pompei says that the Bears' coaches lost confidence in CB Nathan Vasher last season.

Pompei would be surprised if the Bears bring Vasher back. He was only used once the Bears' secondary was hit by injuries and is due $2.95 million in 2010.

Bears beat writer Brad Biggs speculates that reserve CB Nathan Vasher could be cut this offseason.

Vasher is due $2.95 million in 2010. Even though he's only 28, a serious groin injury has sapped Vasher's ability to cover in one-on-one situations. Lacking man-to-man skills won't help Vasher's free agent stock if he's released.
