Cowboys agreed to terms with S Will Allen, formerly of the Steelers.
The Cowboys have their veteran safety, and it isn't Michael Huff. Allen, who started seven games a year ago while filling in for an injured Troy Polamalu, will at least push Matt Johnson for the starting free safety job. Johnson missed his entire rookie year due to hamstring injuries while Allen has 130 games of NFL experience. Mar 27 - 11:06 AM

Steelers SS Will Allen will continue to fill in for Troy Polamalu (calf).

When Polamalu first went down, the Steelers started Ryan Mundy. That didn't work out, so they turned to the veteran special teamer Allen. He's responded as a run-stuffer, recording 22 tackles in the last four games.

Steelers S Will Allen (knee) and DE Aaron Smith (triceps) are listed as questionable for Super Bowl XLV.

Smith is a long shot to suit up, but Allen fully intends to be on the field against the Packers. Said Allen, "I'm playing. No way I'll miss my first Super Bowl." The backup safety is a core special teamer for the Steelers.

Steelers special teamer Will Allen injured his knee in the second half of Saturday's win over the Ravens and admitted he may miss the AFC Championship Game.

Allen was unable to return to Saturday's game after going down. It's a concern as the backup safety is one of Pittsburgh's top special teamers.

Steelers signed S Will Allen to a three-year, $4.4 million contract. The deal includes a $975,000 signing bonus.

A special teams alternate for the 2009 Pro Bowl, Allen proved a below average free safety in Tampa Bay before losing his job to Tanard Jackson in 2008. Ideally, he'll be no more than a third safety/special teamer for the Steelers. The team is likely to invest multiple draft picks on defensive backs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers will sign free agent S Will Allen to a three-year contract on Monday.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was the Bucs' secondary coach when Tampa Bay selected Allen in the 2004 fourth round. Pittsburgh shouldn't be done adding competition to its free safety position after this addition. Allen is a replacement level player, and a clear downgrade from Ryan Clark.

Free agent S Will Allen is meeting with the Steelers today.

Allen would help the Steelers' wretched special teams while also giving them depth at safety with Ryan Clark testing the market.

Bucs placed S Will Allen (thumb) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Allen played safety while Tanard Jackson was suspended this season, but he is primarily a special teamer. He'll be a free agent after the season and finishes the year with 20 tackles. Corey Lynch is expected to fill Allen's role.

Bucs backup S Will Allen appears to have broken his right thumb in the Week 9 win over the Packers.

X-rays revealed a crack, but it's not yet known if Allen will need surgery. Allen provides depth behind starter Tanard Jackson and is a special teamer.

Bucs special teamer Will Allen will step in for the suspended Tanard Jackson at free safety.

Allen lost his job when Jackson was drafted in 2007. He'll likely struggle during the four games Jackson is watching. As a contingency plan, the Bucs are trying Jermaine Phillips, a full-time linebacker, out at safety - a position he used to play.

Buccaneers re-signed S Will Allen to a one-year, $1.83 million contract.

The veteran backup could make up to $2.35 million through incentives. Allen will be insurance behind SS Sabby Piscitelli and FS Tanard Jackson with Jermaine Phillips likely to sign elsewhere in free agency.

Safeties Will Allen and Jermaine Phillips were reportedly among the best players at Bucs training camp.

They had to be, and will continue to have to be during the season to hold off rookies Tanard Jackson and Sabby Piscitelli. Allen was especially disappointing in 2006, but will be starting at free safety to begin the season.
