Bengals re-signed S Gibril Wilson.
The Bengals continue to aim low. Wilson tore both his ACL and MCL during the preseason last year. He wasn't a good cover safety before and figures to be even slower now. Sat, Jul 30, 2011 12:23:00 PM

Bengals placed S Gibril Wilson on injured reserve with a torn left ACL and MCL, ending his season.

Wilson signed a one-year contract in the offseason, so he'll be a free agent next spring at age 29 and coming off a knee reconstruction. Already a liability in coverage, he's not going to find the open market too friendly.

The agent for Bengals S Gibril Wilson revealed that his client suffered a torn left ACL and MCL in Friday night's preseason game.

He'll need reconstructive surgery and is out for the year. The Bengals do have solid safety depth in Nedu Ndukwe and Tom Nelson, but Wilson was the most experienced of the reserves. The injury is an obvious blow to his career.

Bengals S Gibril Wilson left Friday night's exhibition contest in the second quarter with a left knee injury.

His return was dubbed "doubtful." Wilson is battling for the Bengals' third safety position behind strong-sider Roy Williams and FS Chris Crocker.

Bengals agreed to terms with FS Gibril Wilson on a one-year contract.

Wilson will push starting free safety Chris Crocker, who will miss this weekend's minicamp after undergoing ankle surgery in February. Now on his fourth team in four years, Wilson was a liability in coverage last season while coming up short on big plays. The Bengals will add Pacman Jones to the secondary as well.

The Bengals are closing in on an deal with free agent S Gibril Wilson, according to Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson.

Similar to the Pacman Jones situation, it sounds like Wilson will be signed as long as the sides can agree to terms. The Bengals are trying to upgrade the secondary to compensate for a pass rush that fell off last year when Antwan Odom went down with an Achilles injury.

In addition to Pacman Jones, the Bengals also hosted free agent safety Gibril Wilson on Tuesday.

Ken Hamlin and C.C. Brown have also visited the Bengals recently, so the team is doing its due diligence on the available veteran safeties. Of the three, Hamlin has played at the highest level the past couple of years.

The Bucs are in the process of setting up visits with free agent safeties Gibril Wilson and Brodney Pool.

Both players are obviously tainted but have starter-level talent. Wilson is seeking his fourth team in four years while Pool has struggled with concussions. The Bucs are looking to upgrade with Sabby Piscitelli coming off a disappointing season and Will Allen signing with the Steelers.

Dolphins released S Gibril Wilson.

The team blew $8 million for one-year on the former Raider and Giant. Wilson received the dreaded vote of confidence from GM Jeff Ireland just two weeks ago, but the team's genuine interest in free agent Antrel Rolle spoke volumes. Wilson was a liability in coverage last season while providing nothing in the way of big plays. He's now busted with two different teams in two years. His release could be a sign that the Fins are close to landing Rolle.

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland said at the Combine Thursday that the team expects FS Gibril Wilson to return in 2010.

This differs from a Miami Herald report earlier in the month that stated the Fins were "strongly leaning toward getting rid of" Wilson. Wilson struggled in all areas last season, a year after leading all NFL DBs in tackles as a Raider. Ireland said the Dolphins are hopeful Wilson, 28, will improve.

The Dolphins are "strongly leaning toward getting rid of" FS Gibril Wilson, according to Armando Salguero.

In addition to coming short on big plays, Wilson was also a huge liability in coverage last season. The Dolphins realize they lack an in-house option to replace him, but they're ready to pursue other options at free safety.

Dolphins FS Gibril Wilson is due a $3.85 million salary in 2010, in addition to a $50,000 offseason workout bonus.

Wilson struggled all season in coverage and ultimately was yanked from the nickel package in Week 17. The Fins lack a viable in-house replacement, but may choose to cut ties anyway. Wilson is clearly miscast as a free safety.

Dolphins FS Gibril Wilson was replaced by Chris Clemons in nickel and dimes situations for Sunday's season finale.

Clemons struggled mightily, getting burned for two touchdowns and shying from contact on a Rashard Mendenhall tackle. It's the second time this season that Wilson has been benched, and Clemons isn't the answer. Miami will have to address the position this offseason, with Wilson likely on the outs.

Despite losing his starting job, Dolphins S Gibril Wilson played 58 snaps against the Jets in Week 8.

Both the Jets and Miami head coach Tony Sparano said Wilson played his best game of the year, so the benching apparently got his attention. Look for him to resume starting this week against the Patriots.

Dolphins FS Gibril Wilson was benched in favor of rookie Chris Clemons Sunday.

Coach Tony Sparano said the decision to go with three rookies in the secondary caused him a "sleepless week." While Sparano cited Clemons' stellar special teams work for the promotion, Wilson had been a major liability in coverage. The free agent bust is unlikely to return to Miami next season.
