Free agent QB Jim Sorgi will work out for the Raiders on Tuesday.
The Raiders will also work out free agent Matt Leinart this week. Sorgi missed all of 2011 with a torn capsule in his right shoulder, and hasn't attempted a pass since 2008. With Leinart's former QBs coach Greg Knapp now the offensive coordinator in Oakland, Leinart should have a leg up on Sorgi for a contract offer. Mon, Apr 30, 2012 09:59:00 AM

Giants QB Jim Sorgi, who is out for the year, underwent surgery last Tuesday to repair the torn capsule in his right shoulder.

Sorgi also had prior labrum damage repaired while he was under the knife. He's not expected to begin throwing again for 4-5 months. Sorgi is a free agent after the season, while Sage Rosenfels is signed through 2011.

Coach Tom Coughlin revealed that QB Jim Sorgi was placed on I.R. because his shoulder injury will require surgery.

Sorgi originally injured the labrum in his throwing shoulder last season, opting to rehab rather than go under the knife. His current injury involves a torn shoulder capsule. There's no telling how much zip he'll have on the ball after surgery, but the Giants have asked him to stick around in a mentor/assistant coach capacity for now.

Giants placed Jim Sorgi (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Seeing the writing on the wall, Sorgi was furiously rushing to get back on the field. The Giants had doubts that he'd be ready to go by Week 1, though, so they're moving on with Rhett Bomar as Eli Manning's backup.

Giants backup Jim Sorgi (shoulder) will likely miss all the practices this week, and his roster spot could be in jeopardy.

Sorgi is trying to rush back from his torn capsule so he can hang on to his backup gig. Coach Tim Coughlin hinted that he may be forced to roll with Rhett Bomar, who went 10-of-20 for 140 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions against the Ravens on Saturday.

Giants backup QB Jim Sorgi's shoulder turned out to be not as serious as expected, and he plans to return to practice next week.

Sorgi was expected to miss at least 3-4 weeks with a torn shoulder capsule, but he feels like Rhett Bomar could pass him by if he doesn't return. "In my mind, I feel I've got to play [the final preseason game] against New England," said Sorgi.

Giants backup QB Jim Sorgi conceded that the injury to his throwing shoulder is much worse than he originally thought.

Sorgi is still "gathering information" about the torn capsule and partial dislocation. For now, he can't lift his shoulder over his head. The 2-3 week timetable no longer seems realistic, so the Giants will be on the lookout for a veteran insurance policy behind Eli Manning. Rhett Bomar and Dominic Randolph will handle all snaps in Saturday's exhibition game.

Giants backup QB Jim Sorgi is out 2-3 weeks with a torn capsule and partial dislocation in his right (throwing) shoulder.

Sorgi took a shot after tossing his second touchdown pass to Victor Cruz in Monday's preseason win. Good news: The damage is not related to his previous labrum tear. Bad news: With Eli Manning (head) also out, the Giants are going to need some camp arms. Rhett Bomar and newly signed Dominic Randolph will both see a ton of action against the Steelers on Saturday.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride indicated that Jim Sorgi has a clear lead on Rhett Bomar for the Giants' backup QB job.

It's no shock that the veteran clipboard-holder is leading the race, but it is mildly surprising that the Giants basically declared a winner before camp. Though Bomar showed flashes in spring practices, Sorgi received the bulk of the reps.

Jim Sorgi's one-year contract with the Giants is worth roughly $1.15 million if he makes the team as Eli Manning's backup.

The max value of the deal is $1.8 million and it also includes per-game roster bonuses. He'll have plenty of motivation to beat out Rhett Bomar for the No. 2 job.

Giants signed QB Jim Sorgi to a one-year contract.

Amid concerns about the labrum in his shoulder, Sorgi was cleared to play by noted specialists Dr. James Andrews in Alabama and Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles. He will compete with Rhett Bomar for the No. 2 job behind Eli Manning. The 29-year-old is now qualified to caddy for both Peyton and Eli at all Manning family golf outings.

The Giants are not expected to sign free agent Jim Sorgi due to concerns about the health of his throwing shoulder.

Sorgi injured the shoulder in practice last year, and it's unclear if he had surgery. Either way, his physical at Giants headquarters must not have went smoothly. New York may turn to Jeff Garcia as David Carr's replacement.

The Giants will host Jim Sorgi for a free agent visit on Monday.

Sorgi could go from caddying for one Manning to another. The Giants are in search of a replacement for free agent backup David Carr, who is flirting with the 49ers, Browns, and Cardinals. Sorgi, 29, didn't play last season.

Colts released QB Jim Sorgi.

Peyton Manning's caddy since 2004, the 29-year-old battled injuries to his throwing shoulder last season and was believed to be considering surgery. The Week-17 fantasy warrior will hand over clipboard duties to Curtis Painter.

Jim Sorgi (injured reserve, shoulder) said he felt "great" about a week or two after landing on IR and has been throwing ever since.

Sorgi maintains that he could have played late in the season. If so, there's a much better chance that the Colts would have been undefeated. Sorgi will obviously be fine for the offseason program.
