Free agent QB Jim Sorgi will work out for the Raiders on Tuesday.
The Raiders will also work out free agent Matt Leinart this week. Sorgi missed all of 2011 with a torn capsule in his right shoulder, and hasn't attempted a pass since 2008. Giants QB Jim Sorgi, who is out for the year, underwent surgery last Tuesday to repair the torn capsule in his right shoulder.

Sorgi also had prior labrum damage repaired while he was under the knife. He's not expected to begin throwing again for 4-5 months. Sorgi is a free agent after the season, while Sage Rosenfels is signed through 2011.

Coach Tom Coughlin revealed that QB Jim Sorgi was placed on I.R. because his shoulder injury will require surgery.

Sorgi originally injured the labrum in his throwing shoulder last season, opting to rehab rather than go under the knife. His current injury involves a torn shoulder capsule. There's no telling how much zip he'll have on the ball after surgery, but the Giants have asked him to stick around in a mentor/assistant coach capacity for now.

Sorgi is trying to rush back from his torn capsule so he can hang on to his backup gig. Coach Tim Coughlin hinted that he may be forced to roll with Rhett Bomar, who went 10-of-20 for 140 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions against the Ravens on Saturday.

Sorgi is still "gathering information" about the torn capsule and partial dislocation. For now, he can't lift his shoulder over his head. The 2-3 week timetable no longer seems realistic, so the Giants will be on the lookout for a veteran insurance policy behind Eli Manning. Rhett Bomar and Dominic Randolph will handle all snaps in Saturday's exhibition game.

Sorgi took a shot after tossing his second touchdown pass to Victor Cruz in Monday's preseason win. Good news: The damage is not related to his previous labrum tear. Bad news: With Eli Manning (head) also out, the Giants are going to need some camp arms. Rhett Bomar and newly signed Dominic Randolph will both see a ton of action against the Steelers on Saturday.

It's no shock that the veteran clipboard-holder is leading the race, but it is mildly surprising that the Giants basically declared a winner before camp. Though Bomar showed flashes in spring practices, Sorgi received the bulk of the reps.

The max value of the deal is $1.8 million and it also includes per-game roster bonuses. He'll have plenty of motivation to beat out Rhett Bomar for the No. 2 job.

He will compete with Rhett Bomar for the No. 2 job behind Eli Manning. The 29-year-old is now qualified to caddy for both Peyton and Eli at all Manning family golf outings.

Jim Sorgi (injured reserve, shoulder) said he felt "great" about a week or two after landing on IR and has been throwing ever since.

Sorgi maintains that he could have played late in the season. If so, there's a much better chance that the Colts would have been undefeated. Sorgi will obviously be fine for the offseason program.
