Chiefs released CB Jacques Reeves with an injury settlement.
Reeves was so bad in Week 1 that he lasted just one game in Kansas City before being placed on I.R. with an apparently minor hamstring injury. His comeback has ended ignominiously. After two years away from the game, Reeves was exploited as Brandon Flowers' replacement in the season opener. He hasn't played a snap since. Turning 30 next month, Reeves may have played his final NFL down.

Chiefs signed CB Jacques Reeves, formerly of the Texans.

Reeves, 29, is trying to make a comeback after spending the last two seasons out of football. One of the NFL's worst cornerbacks after the Texans signed him to a five-year, $20 million deal in 2008, Reeves drew little to no interest during his time away. He'll battle for a roster spot with Jalil Brown behind Brandon Flowers, Stanford Routt, and slot cornerback Javier Arenas.

A desperate Texans team signed Reeves to a five-year, $20 million contract back in 2008 after he was consistently picked on with the Cowboys. He ended up starting 21 of 28 games over the past two seasons, but he had recently plummeted to the third-team defense with Houston's infusion of youth in the secondary.

Scout.com's Ed Thompson reports that CB Jacques Reeves will be among the Texans' final cuts Saturday.

We can't say we're surprised. The Texans are making a concerted effort to go young in the secondary, and the 28-year-old Reeves was playing with Houston's third string in the preseason finale. His salary is also $3 million.

Texans CB Jacques Reeves (finger, leg) is finally expected to make his season debut Sunday.

Reeves broke his leg in training camp and then fractured his finger last week. The Texans sure could use him this week against the Cardinals. A cornerback tandem of Reeves and Dunta Robinson should help the Texans get a few more stops than they've been getting.

Texans CB Jacques Reeves will miss Sunday's game after undergoing minor surgery on his finger.

Reeves suffered a compound fracture when he tried to catch the ball in Wednesday's practice. That's why he's not a wide receiver. The Texans were expecting Reeves to debut this week, but they'll have get by with Fred Bennett again.

Texans CB Jacques Reeves suffered a hand injury in practice Wednesday and his status for Week 4 is unknown.

Reeves was expected to play this week for the first time since breaking his leg early in training camp. He's the Texans' top DB and they clearly are missing him this season as they rank 28th in the league in total defense through three weeks.

Coach Gary Kubiak acknowledged that LCB Jacques Reeves (fractured fibula) probably won't be ready for Week 1.

"To say that he'll be ready for New York would be a pleasant surprise for us," Kubiak said. "I think the plan all along was hopefully for Week 2." Fred Bennett and one of rookies Glover Quinn and Brice McCain will likely start against the Jets. That assumes that Dunta Robinson's holdout continues.

Texans LCB Jacques Reeves will miss the next 6-8 weeks after fracturing his fibula in Tuesday's training camp practice.

The optimistic end of that estimate would have Reeves back by Week 2, but he sounds sure to miss the opener against the Jets. The negative end would put Reeves out until at least Week 3. Reeves proved worthy of the the $20M deal Houston gave him before last year, emerging as the club's top corner. They're now down both starters with RCB Dunta Robinson holding out.

Jacques Reeves is expected to keep his job as the Texans' starting left cornerback this season.

Dunta Robinson will play RCB and Fred Bennett and Antwaun Molden will vie for the nickel job. Reeves was consistent in his first season as a Texan last year and picked off four passes. This is a fairly deep cornerback group.

Opponents are going to go at him early and often. Fred Bennett, who posted the best YPA in the league last year, is taking Dunta Robinson's spot at right corner. Rookie Antwaun Molden and Jamar Fletcher are vying for nickel duty.

Jacques Reeves' contract with the Texans is worth $20 million over five seasons, according to NFL Network.

We haven't seen the guaranteed money, but this indicates that he'll be a starter until Dunta Robinson returns from his knee injury. Reeves has blazing speed, but is notorious for giving receivers tons of cushion. With $8 million of the $20 million guaranteed, there is no question he's being overpaid.
