Texans agreed to terms with P Donnie Jones on a one-year contract.

Jones, who turns 32 before the season, spent the last five year punting for the Rams. His 2011 net average of 37.0 ranked 31st in the league and was the worst of Jones' tenure in St. Louis. Texans incumbent punter, Brett Hartmann, is coming off a torn ACL and facing a three-game suspension to open the year.

Jones will replace Matt Turk in St. Louis and can be an above-average punter. He better be to justify a $1.175 million signing bonus.

Rams signed restricted free agent Miami punter Donnie Jones to a five-year, $5.585 million offer sheet.

The deal includes a $1.175 million signing bonus, quite a coup for the young punter. Scott Linehan was on the Miami staff when Jones took over the starting job there in 2005. We suspect the Dolphins won't match.

He played with coach Nick Saban at LSU. It's possible the team will look for a veteran next week.

Dolphins claimed punter Donnie Jones off waivers from the Seahawks.

Jones was probably the greatest punter in LSU history under Saban in college. He will provide camp competition to Matt Turk.
