Titans released C Eugene Amano.
The writing has been on the wall for a couple of months. Amano, 31, missed all of last season with a torn triceps muscle. The nine-year veteran has started 68 games in his career, but he needed to be replaced. Amano was set to count over $6 million against the salary cap this year. The Titans are moving forward with Fernando Velasco and rookie Brian Schwenke at center. Thu, Jun 6, 2013 04:37:00 PM

The Nashville Tennessean reiterates that the Titans are expected to release C Eugene Amano.

We're surprised it hasn't happened already, as the Tennessean has expected this since early March. Amano is due nearly $3.7 million in salary and has battled knee soreness this offseason while recovering from a torn triceps. Fernando Velasco proved a 2012 upgrade at center, and the Titans drafted Brian Schwenke.

The Nashville Tennessean expects the Titans to release C Eugene Amano.

One of the league's highest-paid centers, Amano missed all of last season with a torn right triceps. Fernando Velasco was better than Amano during the absence. Cutting Amano would clear $3.685 million in salary off the Titans' books.

Titans C Eugene Amano triggered an escalator in his contract, raising his 2013 salary from $3.685 million to $3.935 million.

Amano didn't play a single game in 2012 after tearing his triceps in early August. However, he did start 60 of a possible 64 games in the four years prior. Amano signed a five-year deal ahead of the 2011 season, but the Nashville Tennessean recently mentioned him as a candidate for release this offseason. The Titans can move on with Fernando Velasco at center.

Titans C Eugene Amano is a candidate for offseason release.

Amano is due a hefty $3.685 million salary in 2013 after missing the entire 2012 season with a torn right triceps and grading out as one of the worst centers in the league in 2011. With RG Leroy Harris an impending free agent and LG Steve Hutchinson considering retirement, GM Ruston Webster has said that solidifying the interior line is "probably the first priority."

Titans C Eugene Amano has been diagnosed with a torn right triceps, and is done for the season.

Amano has been the Titans' starting center since 2008, but the team opened his job to competition following a dismal 2011, where he graded out as Pro Football Focus' fourth worst center. Fernando Velasco, Kevin Matthews, and UDFA William Vlachos will now compete for the job, with Velasco as the favorite. The Titans may still explore a dried-up free agent market. Due a salary of $3.685 million in 2013, Amano has likely played his last snap with Tennessee.

Titans C Eugene Amano (knee surgery) has resumed practicing at this week's minicamp.

Amano is right on schedule after a pair of offseason surgeries, the second of which was never disclosed. Although he's facing competition from Fernando Velasco, Kevin Matthews, and rookie William Vlachos, Amano worked with the first-team offense on Tuesday.

The Titans have opened C Eugene Amano's starting job to competition.

Amano was one of the least effective centers in the NFL last season. While he's viewed as the "leader in the clubhouse," Amano will have to hold off Fernando Velasco, Kevin Matthews, and rookie William Vlachos. A veteran signing can't be ruled out, either. Matthews has been working with the first team while Amano rehabs knee and shoulder surgeries.

The Titans expect C Eugene Amano back from his multiple offseason surgeries at June minicamp.

One of the surgeries was on Amano's knee. The other is undisclosed, though a shoulder injury ended Amano's 2011 season in early December. While Amano was one of the worst centers in football last year, it's fair to wonder if the injuries affected his performance. The Titans were high enough on Amano following the 2009 season to hand him a five-year, $26.247 million contract.

The signing of OG Steve Hutchinson has not decreased the Titans' interest in free agent C Scott Wells, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Per the Journal-Sentinel's Bob McGinn, the Titans aren't "overly thrilled" with holdover Eugene Amano and would "easily release" him if they land Wells. Though he has three years left on his five-year, $26.25 contract, Amano has been one of the least effective centers in the NFL the past two years. Look for Wells, a Nashville native, to ultimately return home.

Titans C Eugene Amano, G/C Fernando Velasco, and CB Tommie Campbell are all coming off undisclosed offseason procedures.

There are no details on the surgeries. The Titans have considered moving Amano back to guard with Jake Scott set to exit via free agency, but they realize they should also be aiming higher on the interior. Amano could stake a fair claim to being the least effective pivot in the NFL last season.

Titans coach Mike Munchak confirmed that C Eugene Amano and LG Leroy Harris are "slated to start" again in 2011.

Plagued by a series of shoulder stingers, Amano was a disaster at center after moving in from right guard. Harris wasn't any better in his first season as a starter. The two were the primary culprits in the Titans' last-place finish in Pro Football Focus' run-blocking ratings. Munchak is hoping that a return to full health will solve the woes.
Tue, Apr 26, 2011 04:26:00 PM

Titans coach Mike Munchak said Saturday that C Eugene Amano will not need offseason surgery on his shoulder.

Amano suffered multiple stingers throughout the season and was ultimately put on injured reserve after Week 14. A flop after signing a five-year, $26.247 million contract last offseason, Amano isn't guaranteed the starting job in 2011 even if he proves to be 100 percent healthy.

Titans placed C Eugene Amano on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, ending his season.

He only suffered a stinger, but it was his third this season. Fernando Velasco will take over. After signing a hefty contract in the offseason, Amano flopped in his first season as the Titans' starting center in a failed bid to replace Kevin Mawae. Amano struggled in both protection and run blocking. He'll be back next season, but the Titans may want to make Amano compete for the job, or consider moving him back to his natural guard spot.

Titans C Eugene Amano left Thursday's game in the fourth quarter with an apparent left shoulder injury.

It had the look of a "stinger," an injury which also knocked Amano out of the game two weeks ago. Backup Fernando Velasco has come on to replace him.
