The signing of Josh Brown confirms that free agent K Lawrence Tynes will not re-sign with the Giants.
Tynes will forever be remembered in Giants lore as a two-time Super Bowl champion that made two game-winning kicks in NFC Championship games. But the cap-strapped G-Men didn't want to pony up, so he's moving on. The 49ers are rumored to have interest as they search for a David Akers replacement. Mar 13 - 12:57 PM

The 49ers are expected to "strike quickly" for a free-agent kicker on Tuesday, and are believed to be targeting Lawrence Tynes.

San Francisco isn't going to mess around as it looks for David Akers' replacement. Tynes is one of the league's most experienced kickers, but struggled down the stretch last season. He's 52-for-63 on FGs since 2011.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes denies he's in a slump.

Fantasy owners might disagree. Tynes has missed three field goals in the last three weeks after missing just three in the first 11 games of the season combined. Compounding concerns is that two of those misses came from 39 yards out or closer. Tynes said he's working this week to fix some of his "tempo" issues.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes is on pace to score more points than anyone in NFL history ever has in one season.

Tynes has 94 points in eight games, the season’s halfway point. He’s on pace for 188 points, which would top the record for any player (LaDainian Tomlinson’s 186 points in 2006) and shatter the record for a kicker (David Akers’ 166 points last season). The kicking record before Akers broke it was Gary Anderson’s 164 points in 1998. Paul Hornung, a halfback and kicker, scored 176 points in 1960 while kicking 15 field goals and 41 extra points, but the Packers star also had 15 touchdowns.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes admitted he's still feeling effects from his bruised thigh.

Tynes played yesterday, but had his only field-goal attempt blocked. There are plenty of safer kicking situations with Tynes at less than 100 percent.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes (quadriceps) was able to kick 25 field goals and eight kickoffs in Friday's practice.

Tynes "definitely" plans to play in the opener after going down in the first preseason game. We'll know the Giants are counting on Tynes if they cut Rhys Lloyd on Saturday (likely) and don't sign another kicker before Week 1.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes' (quadriceps) status is up in the air for the season opener.

Coach Tom Coughlin indicated that the next seven days will be "crucial" for Tynes. The Giants will have to bring in another kicker if Tynes can't go because Rhys Lloyd is purely a kickoff specialist. Fantasy leaguers should avoid the situation altogether.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes' MRI showed only a bruised thigh.

Tynes will be in the trainers room "full time" this week, but he avoided serious injury. While the Giants may have to bring in a kicker to handle practice chores, Tynes has nearly a month to get ready for the regular season.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes left Saturday's preseason game in the fourth quarter after injuring his right thigh.

It's being called a thigh contusion, and he was seen on crutches in the locker room after the game. Tynes took a helmet to the leg after Panthers' special teamer Sean Ware blocked his field goal attempt. Though he was able to walk off on his own power, it's never good news when a kicker hurts their primary leg. We'll likely get an update Sunday.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes underwent three offseason surgeries -- one for a sports hernia, another for his left ankle, and the third on his right heel.

Good thing he's a kicker. Tynes characterized the procedures on his lower legs as "clean-up" operations, and he anticipates being "pain free" well before the season. Turning 33 this summer, Tynes nailed 19 of his 23 field goal attempts last year. He'll remain a low-end fantasy starter in 2011.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes tested his ankle on kickoffs in Friday's practice and pronounced himself ready for Week 7.

Tynes, listed as a full participant in practice and probable on the injury report, "reported no issues" and will kick against Dallas on Monday night.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes (ankle) was limited in Thursday's practice.

Tynes did say that he feels much better this week and will kick against the Cowboys Monday night. It's still a situation to avoid. Tynes has made just 62.5 percent of his field goal attempts this year.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes sprained his left (non-kicking) ankle in Friday's practice and was added to the injury report as questionable.

Coach Tom Coughlin said that P Matt Dodge might be used as the Giants' kickoff specialist against the Lions. The Giants will sign a kicker before game day if Tynes is too injured to play, but this has become a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues despite the favorable matchup. Tynes has made only five field goals this season anyway, missing three others.

Giants K Lawrence Tynes expressed relief that the Giants re-signed his holder, Jeff Feagles.

"It's my first time in seven years I'll have the same battery," Tynes said of Feagles and snapper Zak DeOssie. Tynes had an excellent season in 2009, connecting on 27-of-32 field goals. He'll be on the fantasy radar as mediocre kicking option heading into 2010.

Lawrence Tynes (hamstring) practiced on Thursday.

Coach Tom Coughlin said Tynes went through his normal routine. He'll continue to handle kicking duties against the Panthers this week.
