Eagles released P Mat McBriar.

The move saves $840,000, which will go toward new punter Donnie Jones. 33-year-old McBriar had a strong 2012 season in terms of gross punting average (46.5 yards), but his net (36.5) was poor. McBriar also had one punt returned for a touchdown and another blocked.

Eagles re-signed P Mat McBriar and waived P Chas Henry.

The Eagles' Henry-Henery kicking combo was short-lived. Henry averaged 48.3 yards per on 16 punts, but his net average was just 38.3. No punter had a higher percentage of kicks returned than Henry's 87.5 mark. McBriar was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Cowboys.

Eagles released P Mat McBriar.

Chas Henry appears to have won Philly's punter job, although the Billy Cundiff situation in Washington is a reminder that roster spots aren't locked in until the real games begin. McBriar, 33, struggled with the Cowboys last year.

Eagles signed P Mat McBriar to a one-year contract.

McBriar, a two-time Pro Bowler, proved his knee/foot was relatively healthy in a Monday tryout. Even though he's only at 90 percent, he'll start pushing incumbent Chas Henry, who disappointed as a rookie in 2011. McBriar has averaged 45.3 yards per punt during his career while Henry was at 42.9 last season.

Free agent P Mat McBriar worked out for the Eagles on Monday, and will visit the Cowboys on Tuesday.

McBriar was a Pro Bowler in 2010, but saw his 2011 marred by a cyst behind his plant (left) leg. Provided he's back to full health, he'll almost certainly find a job before Week 1.

The Cowboys haven't ruled out re-signing free agent P Mat McBriar.

McBriar is still rehabbing from a February operation to remove a cyst from behind his left knee, but says he's "set for a full recovery." A Pro-Bowler as recently as 2010, the Cowboys would likely prefer McBriar to Chris Jones as long he's 100 percent.

Free agent P Mat McBriar underwent surgery this week to remove a cyst in his left knee.

The cyst, rare in athletes, was discovered two weeks ago as the cause of his "drop foot" condition late in the season. McBriar is confident that he will make a full recovery in time to play the 2012 season. His preference is to re-sign with the Cowboys.

Free agent P Mat McBriar will undergo surgery on his ailing left foot two days after the Super Bowl.

McBriar believes he "should" be able to resume punting by the summer. If he's not healthy by the time training camp rolls around, McBriar won't begin 2012 on someone's active roster.

Cowboys placed P Mat McBriar on injured reserve with a left foot injury, ending his season.

McBriar hadn't been the same since injuring his plant foot in Week 8, and the Cowboys apparently didn't trust the two-time Pro Bowler going into their most important game. Also the Cowboys' holder, McBriar's injury sets up the possibility that Tony Romo, who made an infamous holding gaffe during the 2006-07 postseason, could be holding kicks from here on out. An eight-year veteran, McBriar is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Cowboys P Mat McBriar was forced from Sunday's game against the Eagles with a left foot injury.

A fairly significant injury for a Cowboys team that looks like it's going to be punting a lot more this evening. K Dan Bailey is now in the game at punter.

Cowboys P Mat McBriar underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday.

He should be 100 percent by OTAs. McBriar stayed healthy in 2009 after landing on I.R. in 2008 due to a fractured foot six games in. The 30-year-old ranked tenth overall in yards per punt (45.1) and ninth in net average (39.9). Without question, McBriar will be back at his $1.55 million salary for 2010.

Cowboys P Matt McBriar said Monday that his foot is "95 percent" healed and he'd be ready to go if the season began tomorrow.

McBriar missed most of the 2008 season after fracturing his foot on a blocked punt. He was placed on injured reserve and Sam Paulescu took over. Expect McBriar to recapture the job.

Cowboys placed P Matt McBriar on injured reserve, ending his season.

With a slew of injuries in the past few weeks, the Cowboys couldn't afford to hold a roster spot for their Pro Bowl punter. Sam Paulescu was signed to take McBriar's place.

Cowboys P Mat McBriar will miss 6-8 weeks after fracturing his kicking foot on Sean Morey's block of his punt in Week 6.

The purest form of adding insult to injury. Because they'll keep roster spots for Tony Romo, Anthony Spencer, and other banged up players, the Cowboys may need to place McBriar on injured reserve. That would be a big blow, as McBriar is arguably the best punter in the league.
