Vikings CB Benny Sapp has been cited for misdemeanor assault after a Friday morning incident with security at a Minneapolis children's hospital.
Attempting to leave the hospital after dropping off his son, Sapp allegedly had two separate confrontations with security officers as he attempted to use a blocked-off exit. Sapp was only cited, and not arrested. The Vikings have said they are "aware" of the incident. Sapp has graded out positively by Pro Football Focus since being signed by the Vikes in November. Vikings signed CB Benny Sapp, formerly of the Dolphins.

Sapp hasn't played this year since being released following Tom Brady's 517-yard regular season opener. He's a special teamer and dime back at best.

The Vikings have inquired about free agent CB Benny Sapp, hears the Pioneer Press.

Tom Brady threw nine passes Sapp's way on Monday night and completed seven of them for 169 yards. He was released the next day. The Press notes that "nothing is imminent." Sapp spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the Vikings.

Dolphins released CB Benny Sapp.

Sapp is the scapegoat for Tom Brady's 517-yard performance after taking a stiff-arm from Wes Welker on the late-game 99-yard touchdown play. To be fair, Sapp also made a savvy play jumping the route that led to Brady's lone interception. The Dolphins will apparently look for an upgrade.

Dolphins CBs Benny Sapp and Will Allen are expected to compete for one roster spot in training camp.

The winner would be the nickel back, and the loser a free agent. Allen has had the more decorated career, but Sapp is very likely to be the better player at this point. Nolan Carroll is another possibility to push both veterans.

Dolphins CB Benny Sapp sat out Thursday's practice with an unspecified injury.

It's believed he's dealing with a lower leg or foot issue. Sapp has played better this season after a dreadful year with the Vikings in 2009, but he wouldn't be a big loss. Sean Smith took Sapp's place as the slot corner Thursday.

Newly acquired CB Benny Sapp successfully defended only 35.1% of his passes thrown against him last season.

This puts him at 91st out of 100 cornerbacks. If Sapp is more than a role player for the Dolphins, it will signal that the secondary is in big trouble.

Dolphins acquired CB Benny Sapp from the Vikings in exchange for WR Greg Camarillo.

Sapp had fallen behind Asher Allen in the race for the nickel back job, and he was due to earn $1.4 million as the Vikings' No. 5 corner. He doesn't offer much more than experience and depth for a young Dolphins secondary.

Vikings agreed to terms with CB Benny Sapp on a two-year, $4.2 million contract.

Sapp will receive $1.5 million guaranteed. Though he's been mediocre as a nickel and dime back the past few seasons, the Vikes were desperate for veteran insurance with Antoine Winfield (foot) and Cedric Griffin (torn ACL) recovering from injuries this offseason.

Vikings VP of player personnel Rick Spielman said the team's intention and goal is to bring back impending unrestricted free agents Benny Sapp and Greg Lewis.

Neither veteran will garner much interest on the open market. Sapp was attacked once Antonie Winfield went down with a foot injury and Lewis caught eight balls all season.

Vikings DB Benny Sapp was forced to leave Sunday's win over the Lions with a groin injury.

Sapp was already taking the place of Antoine Winfield, who remained out with a foot injury. Karl Paymah took over at left corner and rookie Asher Allen stepped in as the nickel back. Sapp doesn't think his injury is serious and the Vikings will need him against the Seahawks next week if Winfield can't go again.

Usual Vikings nickel back Benny Sapp will start at left corner for Antoine Winfield (foot) against the Steelers on Sunday.

Sapp normally mans the slot in passing situations, but he will draw the start over Karl Paymah. When the Vikes go to their nickel package, Sapp will move inside and Paymah will be on the outside. Upgrade all members of the Steeler passing attack.

Vikings re-signed CB Benny Sapp.

Sapp, 28, made 22 tackles and picked off two passes as Minnesota's dime back last season. He'll battle Marcus McCauley to keep that job this summer.
Mon, Mar 9, 2009 03:37:00 PM

Vikings signed CB Benny Sapp, formerly of the Chiefs.

It's for the minimum plus a $100,000 signing bonus. Sapp is strictly a sub-package corner, but adds competition for Marcus McCauley after McCauley's up-and-down rookie year. Charles Gordon needs to be on his toes now, too.

Free agent CB Benny Sapp will visit the Vikings on Monday.

Sapp met with the Browns last week. He's likely being looked at as a dime or possible nickel back with special teams value, but not on returns.
