Redskins signed FB Carey Davis, formerly of the Steelers.

Davis, 29, is a versatile fullback without great ability as a lead blocker. The Skins need healthy hands with starter Mike Sellers nursing a knee injury.

The Steelers opted not to tender FB Carey Davis, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Pittsburgh no longer uses a lead blocker much, so Davis wasn't worth the lowest tender of $1.01 million. He may be brought back for the minimum pay.

Steelers FB Carey Davis is expected to miss this week's game after suffering a hamstring injury on Monday night.

It was Davis' first action since Week 5, and Rashard Mendenhall didn't miss him after he left. Rookie David Johnson will likely handle fullback duties against the Bengals.

Steelers signed FB Carey Davis.

The veteran, who started in last year's Super Bowl, was one of the Steelers' final cuts leading up to the season in favor of rookie Frank Summers. Pittsburgh's running game got going in Week 3, but Summers has fallen out of favor and was inactive Sunday.

Steelers released FB Carey Davis and RB Isaac Redman.

Davis entered last season as a possibility for short-yardage duties, but he lost his job to converted TE Sean McHugh and never regained it. Redman was a preseason flash in the pan, mentioned as a goal-line candidate, but the Steelers needed someone with better special teams ability.

The Steelers tendered exclusive rights free agent FB Carey Davis and OT Jeremy Parquet.

Steelers FB Carey Davis had to be taken to the locker room after spraining his left ankle in the fourth quarter Monday. He didn't return. He ended up with 8 carries for 15 yards and one catch for a one yard loss.

Pittsburgh's RBs are dropping like flies. Davis replaced Rashard Mendenhall, who was injured earlier in the game. He was replaced by Mewelde Moore who was promptly stuffed on his goal line carries.

Steelers FB Carey Davis "appears to be the team's best short-yardage candidate," according to team beat writer Ed Bouchette.

Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall failed to establish themselves in the role during the preseason. Davis is built like a bowling ball and could be effective at the goal line, but is unlikely to see carries between the 20s.

Carey Davis and Verron Haynes will both compete to be the Steelers' third-down back.

Coach Mike Tomlin said that Najeh Davenport should get between 20-25 carries per game going forward, meaning either man's contribution would be minimal.
