Free agent QB Jason Campbell plans to retire.
Campbell is just 33 years old and reportedly turned down offers from the Bengals and Raiders earlier this offseason. With training camp approaching, it looks like he's sticking with the idea of moving on from football. A first-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Auburn, Campbell started 79 games for the Redskins, Raiders, Bears and Browns in his career, compiling a 32-47 record. Jun 15 - 12:14 PM

Free agent QB Jason Campbell is leaning toward retirement.

Campbell has turned down multiple offers this offseason, including deals from Cincinnati and Baltimore. He's been a solid backup the last three years, appearing in 19 games (nine starts). A 2005 first-round pick of the Redskins, Campbell will finish with 16,771 yards and an 87:60 TD/INT ratio if he retires.

Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson says there is talk free agent QB Jason Campbell is considering retirement.

A first-round pick of the Redskins in 2005, Campbell has bounced around the league the last three seasons, most recently backing up Andy Dalton in Cincinnati. The Bengals were reportedly interested in re-signing Campbell to fill the same role in 2015, but it appears he turned them down. Campbell has thrown for 16,771 yards and owns an 87-to-60 TD-to-INT ratio over 79 career starts.

Jason Campbell suffered an arm injury in Thursday's preseason opener.

Campbell completed 6-of-15 passes for 72 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions before leaving in the third quarter. With rookie A.J. McCarron (shoulder) on active/NFI, the Bengals could add a quarterback even if Campbell avoids serious injury.

Speaking Thursday, Bengals OC Hue Jackson made it clear new backup Jason Campbell isn't a threat to Andy Dalton's starting job.

"In no way is (Campbell) supplanting Andy Dalton," Jackson said. "I like our quarterback. ... But Jason is a veteran guy who has played in a lot of offenses and has won a lot of games. I think he can help Andy with some of the knowledge that he's picked up." Dalton has been far from perfect in his three years on the job in Cincinnati, but will continue to have a long leash. Only injury could force Campbell into the lineup.

Bengals signed QB Jason Campbell to a one-year contract.

32-year-old Campbell had his best NFL success under Bengals OC Hue Jackson in Oakland. He will provide a solid, veteran backup for Andy Dalton. Campbell posted an 11:8 TD-to-INT ratio in eight starts for the Browns last season. He's an upgrade on the likes of Josh Johnson, Zac Robinson, and Greg McElroy.

Browns released QB Jason Campbell.

Campbell was owed a $250,000 roster bonus on Thursday, but was never expected to be retained. He joins former teammate Brandon Weeden on the unemployment line. The moves are a clear sign the Browns are targeting a quarterback in the first round of May's draft, though for now Brian Hoyer sits alone atop the depth chart. Campbell and his long release were surprisingly effective at times in 2013, but were heavily managed and manipulated by OC Norv Turner. Nevertheless, he vaults to the near the top of a pitiful quarterback market.

Jason Campbell is owed a $250,000 roster bonus on Thursday.

He's going to be released before then. Once Campbell hits the market, he'll join Michael Vick, Josh McCown, Josh Freeman, and Shaun Hill as a top-five free agent quarterback, although that isn't saying a whole lot. Campbell finished the 2013 season with an 11:8 TD-to-INT ratio across eight starts. He's 32 years old.

ESPN Cleveland fully expects the Browns to release Jason Campbell.

Campbell, 32, triggered an escalator in his contract because he played 45 percent of the snaps this past season and is now due $3.25 million in 2014. Beat writer Tony Grossi believes that's far too high a price to pay for a guy who was 1-7 as a starter and complained about the cold weather. Campbell and Brandon Weeden are expected to get pink slips this offseason, while Brian Hoyer (ACL surgery) should return to join an early-round draft pick at quarterback.

Jason Campbell completed 23-of-41 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Cleveland's 20-7, Week 17 loss to the Steelers.

Campbell also lost a fumble, and took three sacks. As has been the case throughout much of his career, he made a habit of holding onto the ball for too long. Although Campbell proved to be a far-superior option to Brandon Weeden this season, he's still someone who needs to be managed and manipulated to succeed. Things would have been far uglier had he not had the league's leading receiver in Josh Gordon to throw the ball up to. Nevertheless, he showed more than enough to be back for 2014, where he's due an affordable $2 million. Campbell would be a backup, either to a rookie or Brian Hoyer, if he returned.

Jason Campbell will start Sunday's Week 17 game against the Steelers.

Brandon Weeden will be the backup and Alex Tanney will be the third-stringer once again. Coach Rob Chudzinski has no interest in giving someone else a chance even though Campbell has gone 41-of-79 (51.8 percent) for 451 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions in the last two games. He'd be a poor QB2 bet against a Steelers team with an outside shot at making the playoffs.

Jason Campbell completed 18-of-39 passes for 178 yards and two interceptions in Cleveland's 24-13, Week 16 loss to the Jets.

Campbell was brutal. For some odd reason, NFL.com is putting one interception under MarQueis Gray's name. Campbell definitely threw both picks. His receivers didn't help him, either, however. Greg Little flat-out dropped an eight-yard touchdown that hit him right in the hands. Josh Gordon also dropped a two-yard touchdown on back-to-back plays. The Browns were bad in the red zone and clearly missed Jordan Cameron's (concussion) presence there. Campbell's first pick was a terrible throw late over the middle to Dee Milliner. Ed Reed got Campbell late in the fourth quarter to seal the game on an overthrow. Campbell and the 4-11 Browns will end their season in Pittsburgh next Sunday.

Jason Campbell completed 23-of-39 passes for 273 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Bears.

Facing windy conditions and a solid Bears pass defense, Campbell performed poorly. He consistently missed an open Josh Gordon early on and threw a pair of poor interceptions -- one of which was returned for a touchdown. He did salvage his fantasy day with a 43-yard touchdown strike to Gordon in garbage time. Campbell has a far better matchup against the Jets in Week 16, meaning he'll remain a mid-range QB2. Campbell has gone over 248 yards in each of his five full games this season.

Jason Campbell completed 29-of-44 passes for 391 yards and three touchdowns in Week 14 against the Patriots.

Making his first appearance since suffering a Week 12 concussion, Campbell looked pretty sharp as he peppered Jordan Cameron and Josh Gordon with targets. It shouldn't be too difficult with those two athletic freaks in your arsenal. Campbell appeared to have led the Browns to an upset victory over the Patriots, but New England scored two touchdowns in the final 1:04 to win 27-26. Campbell's three scores went to Gordon, Cameron, and Gary Barnidge on a broken play. Campbell will be a low-end QB2 next week against Chicago.

Jason Campbell (concussion) is active and will start Sunday's Week 14 games against the Patriots.

Campbell returns after missing last week's game against the Jaguars. Brandon Weeden (concussion) is inactive. Caleb Hanie will be the backup. Campbell isn't a recommended fantasy option on the road in his return. Also inactive for the Browns are QB Alex Tanney, OT Martin Wallace, OG Garrett Gilkey, OT Reid Fragel, TE Keavon Milton, and WR Josh Cooper.
