Ronnie Brown is expected to fill a complementary role in the passing game for San Diego.
Brown's signing shouldn't scare anyone off Branden Oliver. He knows the system, which will allow Brown to come in on some pass downs to protect Philip Rivers. Oliver will get the bulk of the touches as long as Ryan Mathews (knee) stays out. Oct 9 - 11:17 AM

Chargers signed RB Ronnie Brown.

The Bolts welcome back a player who spent 2012-13 in San Diego. Brown's return is a sign that Donald Brown (concussion) isn't expected back for Week 6. Brown's Bolts reunion is unlikely to last long.
Oct 7 - 6:13 PM

Texans released RB Ronnie Brown.

Brown, 32, appeared in two games for the Texans, rushing six times for four yards and catching one pass for five yards. Houston will move forward with Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes behind Arian Foster. Former No. 2 overall pick Brown's career is very likely over. He's just a veteran presence at this stage.

Texans signed RB Ronnie Brown.

The Texans are shaking up their running back depth chart in a major way. They released RBs Andre Brown, Dennis Johnson, and Tim Cornett on Monday, replacing them with Brown and William Powell. Brown can pick up the blitz and catch the football as a third-down back. At 32, he's clearly near the end of the line.
Aug 11 - 10:03 PM

Texans worked out free agent RBs Ronnie Brown, Brian Leonard and William Powell on Monday.

It's a bad sign for Andre Brown, who has plummeted down the Texans' depth chart. He could be released if the Texans liked what they saw out of Brown, Leonard or Powell on Monday. Jonathan Grimes is suddenly in the driver's seat to be Arian Foster's handcuff.
Aug 11 - 5:13 PM

Free agent Ronnie Brown worked out for the Patriots this week.

Joining Brown were TE Nate Byham, TE Ben Hartsock, and RB Brian Leonard. It's the first we've heard of Brown since the Chargers' season came to a close with a loss to Denver in January. Brown can still be a valuable third-down back, but he's 32. He averaged 3.5 YPC on 45 totes in 2013, reeling in eight passes.
May 21 - 1:23 PM

Ronnie Brown caught four passes for 18 yards but failed to gain a yard on his lone carry in San Diego's playoff loss to Denver.

Brown's in-game role grew some due to Ryan Mathews' ankle limitations, but Danny Woodhead was San Diego's go-to back. Brown finished the 2013 regular season with a 45-157-3.5-1 rushing line and eight catches. Having turned 32 in December, Brown will likely only generate minimum-salary offers in 2014 free agency.
Jan 12 - 8:08 PM

Ronnie Brown rushed eight times for 77 yards and a touchdown and caught a nine-yard pass in San Diego's Wild Card win over Cincinnati.

After operating as San Diego's No. 3 back behind Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead early in the game, Brown's role grew when Mathews aggravated an ankle injury in the third quarter. Brown's nine all-purpose touches were his most in a game since early November. The 32-year-old's 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth was the icer as San Diego won Sunday's contest going away. Unless Mathews' ankle injury proves severe, Brown's role is sure to be far smaller in next week's Divisional Round at Denver.
Jan 5 - 4:42 PM

Ronnie Brown rushed six times for 23 yards in Sunday's Week 12 win at Kansas City.

Brown came on as the early-down complement after Ryan Mathews' third-quarter hamstring injury. Predictably, he did not impress. At age 31, Brown lacks the burst necessary to get chunks of yardage in the NFL. He'd be a poor flex bet against the Bengals in Week 13 even if Mathews sits.
Sun, Nov 24, 2013 05:11:00 PM

Ronnie Brown rushed nine times for 36 yards in San Diego's Week 10 loss to the Broncos.

Brown got a little more run than usual because Ryan Mathews missed a majority of the first quarter with an undisclosed injury. Brown entered Week 10 with just five touches over the Chargers' past three games. He isn't a viable fantasy option in any format.
Sun, Nov 10, 2013 08:51:00 PM

Chargers RB Ronnie Brown rushed three times for 14 yards in San Diego's Week 7 win over Jacksonville.

He was not involved in the passing game. Lacking fantasy value, Brown is San Diego's No. 3 tailback behind Danny Woodhead and Ryan Mathews.
Sun, Oct 20, 2013 04:27:00 PM

Ronnie Brown rushed seven times for 11 yards in Sunday night's Week 5 loss to Oakland.

Brown handled all early down and short-yardage work with Ryan Mathews (concussion) sidelined. He added three catches for 21 yards, but struggled with his limited touches. Even if Mathews isn't cleared for Week 6, Brown won't be on the fantasy radar.
Mon, Oct 7, 2013 03:19:00 AM

Ronnie Brown rushed five times for six yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' Week 3 loss to the Titans.

He wasn't targeted. A rotational back behind Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead, Brown carries zero appeal in re-draft fantasy football leagues.
Sun, Sep 22, 2013 05:44:00 PM

Ronnie Brown rushed three times for 15 yards and caught one pass for three yards in Sunday's Week 2 win over the Eagles.

A week after leading the Chargers RBs in snaps, Brown was the clear-cut No. 3 back. It's the right move by the Chargers. Danny Woodhead is a better receiver and better in blitz pickup. Brown shouldn't be on any fantasy rosters.
Sun, Sep 15, 2013 06:12:00 PM

Ronnie Brown led the Chargers' running backs in snaps in Monday night's loss.

Per Pro Football Focus, Brown played 25 snaps to Ryan Mathews' 20, and Danny Woodhead's 10. Mathews notched 15 touches compared to just seven for Brown and two for Woodhead, but the snap counts are further proof of how much more the Bolts trust Brown in pass protection. Although Brown is off the fantasy radar, he greatly curbs Mathews' upside.
