ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson believes Khalif Barnes is the favorite to start at right guard.
The Raiders were looking to replace Barnes in the draft, but fourth-round pick Jon Feliciano is unlikely to make the immediate impact Oakland was looking for. Barnes has struggled as a run blocker when asked to play guard in his career. His presence in the starting lineup would be a downgrade for Latavius Murray. May 9 - 11:30 AM

ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson believes the Raiders would like to replace RG Khalif Barnes with a rookie.

Oakland landed promising LG Gabe Jackson in the third round last season. After adding C Rodney Hudson in free agency, drafting another immediate impact guard in this year's draft could solidify the Raiders' line for the foreseeable future. If Barnes is replaced, he could fill a role as a swing lineman in 2015.

Raiders signed LG Khalif Barnes to a one-year, $2 million extension through 2015.

Barnes has started six games for the Raiders this season, four of those coming at right tackle and two at left guard. He played reasonably well at tackle early in the season, but has predictably struggled at guard the last two weeks. Barnes should be used as nothing more than a versatile reserve lineman in 2015 if the Raiders have any hope of improving.

Khalif Barnes is penciled in as the Raiders' starting left guard.

The Raiders need to aim higher. Barnes started the final five games of the season at left guard in 2013 after manning left tackle the first 11 weeks. He fared decently as a pass blocker but was obliterated in the run game. If the season were to start today, the Raiders line from left to right would read: LT Donald Penn, LG Barnes, C Stefen Wisniewski, RG Austin Howard, and RT Menelik Watson.

Raiders re-signed LG Khalif Barnes to a one-year contract.

Turning 32 in April, Barnes finished 2013 as Pro Football Focus' No. 58 guard among 81 qualifiers, and 78th in run blocking. He did draw positive marks as a pass blocker. Still, it's startling that the Raiders continue to settle for Barnes' mediocrity when he obviously isn't getting better at his age. Barnes figures to open 2014 as Oakland's starting left guard, with Stefen Wisniewski at center. Incumbent RG Mike Brisiel is tentatively expected to be released.

The Raiders will start T/G Khalif Barnes at left tackle in Week 1 against the Colts.

It'll be Barnes' first start at left tackle since 2008 with the Jaguars, where he got destroyed in pass protection and was not re-signed the following year. Barnes played guard and right tackle in camp. Pro Football Focus graded out Barnes 63rd among pass protecting tackles in 2012, among 77 qualifiers. In big-play IDP leagues, Colts ROLB Robert Mathis is a recommended start.

Raiders RT Khalif Barnes received the majority of minicamp reps with the first-team offense.

Barnes started nine games in 2012, but struggled to play above replacement level. With second-round pick Menelik Watson likely to open the season as the starting right tackle, the San Francisco Chronicle expects Barnes to be moved to guard.

Raiders re-signed RT Khalif Barnes.

Barnes missed Weeks 3-9 last year due to groin surgery. But he's started at right tackle in his last 25 games for the Raiders, grading out 64th among 80 qualifiers in 2012 according to ProFootballFocus. Barnes was a particularly poor run-blocker in the squashed zone-blocking scheme.

Impending free agent RT Khalif Barnes underwent an offseason procedure on his arm.

GM Reggie McKenzie neglected to provide details. Turning 31 in March, Barnes was limited to nine games in 2012 due to early-season groin surgery. His best chance of starting next season is to re-sign with the Raiders.

Raiders RT Khalif Barnes (groin surgery) returned to the lineup in Week 11.

Barnes had been out since Week 2. He didn't give up any sack against the Saints. "There was a little rust, but I shook it off during practice," Barnes said. "For the most part, I was pleased. I didn't have any pain."

Raiders RT Khalif Barnes (groin) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday.

It's the first time Barnes has been on the field since early September. He's been out since Week 2 and then subsequently underwent a "procedure" on the groin. Willie Smith has been filling in on the right side, but he has been thoroughly abused in pass protection.

Raiders RT Khalif Barnes (groin) did not participate in practice on Wednesday.

Barnes underwent a "procedure" on his injured groin a little over three weeks ago and has been out since Week 2. Second-year undrafted free agent Willie Harris has been filling in. There was some speculation that Barnes could return this week, but it doesn't look promising at this point.

Raiders RT Khalif Barnes underwent a "procedure" on his injured groin two weeks ago.

Barnes has missed the Raiders' past two games, but could be ready to return when Oakland comes off its bye in Week 6. Fill-in Willie Smith has struggled in pass protection in Barnes' absence.

Raiders declared RT Khalif Barnes, CB Shawntae Spencer, OLs Joe Barksdale and Lucas Nix, WR Juron Criner, and DL Christo Bilukidi inactive for Week 3 against the Steelers.

Barnes (groin) will be replaced on the right side by Willie Smith. Spencer is out with a foot injury. Criner (ankle) was listed as probable on the injury report but is out. With the Raiders secondary banged up, FS Michael Huff is expected to play mostly cornerback. Terrelle Pryor is the No. 3 quarterback.

Raiders LT Khalif Barnes (groin) is out indefinitely.

Barnes left the Week 2 loss to the Dolphins early and was quickly ruled out for the day. Willie Smith, a former undrafted free agent that the Raiders just picked up off the street on Sept. 1, is expected to start on Carson Palmer's blind side in Week 3.
