DeMarcus Ware (elbow) said his goal is to be "healthy down the stretch."
Ware is about two weeks removed from elbow surgery. He was supposed to miss 4-5 weeks but Ware said he plans to be "patient" with his injury, which suggests he could miss more time. Ware is obviously an important contributor but the Broncos have looked fine without him. They'll give the veteran as much time as he needs. Sep 28 - 5:43 PM

DeMarcus Ware suffered an ulnar fracture Sunday in the Broncos' Week 2 win over the Colts and is expected to miss 4-5 weeks.

In other words, he's dealing with a broken forearm. He'll undergo surgery on Tuesday. It's a blow to Denver's pass rush but the Broncos are still in good hands with Von Miller wreaking havoc on the outside and Shane Ray coming on.

DeMarcus Ware left Sunday's Week 2 game against the Colts with an elbow injury and will not return.

He got hurt on one of the first plays of the second half. Ware recorded a tackle and half a sack before exiting. With Ware sidelined, maybe Andrew Luck will finally have time to throw after spending most of the first half running for his life.
Sep 18 - 6:17 PM

DeMarcus Ware (back) has resumed practicing.

Ware's practice reps will be scarce this season, but he's on track for Week 1. The Broncos will probably try to keep Ware in the 500-snap range for his age-34 campaign.
Aug 23 - 2:22 PM

Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware (back, NFI) will return to practice this week.

Ware has been battling back issues since February. His return to practice puts him on track for Week 1. Ware was effective when healthy last season, logging 7.5 sacks in 11 games while starting opposite Super Bowl MVP Von Miller.
Aug 21 - 1:02 PM

Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware (back, NFI) has yet to resume practicing, but could be cleared in 4-5 days.

Ware basically hasn't gotten in any reps since the Super Bowl, but the Broncos still expect him to be ready for Week 1. Ware has hinted his back probably won't be going away as an issue. 16 games could be a stretch during his age-34 campaign.
Aug 16 - 1:19 PM

Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware (NFI, back) is expected to be medically cleared on Friday.

Coach Gary Kubiak cautioned Ware would not be thrust back into practice even once he is cleared, and it is possible he sticks on the active/NFI list for a couple days. An 11-year veteran with a troublesome back, there is no reason for the Broncos to rush Ware back. His reps should be limited throughout camp.
Jul 28 - 10:13 AM

Broncos placed OLB DeMarcus Ware (back) on the active/NFI list.

Ware's back has been acting up for a while, and he didn't practice at all during the spring. The soon-to-be 34-year-old is considered day-to-day. The Broncos are going to manage his snaps this season, giving more to sophomore Shane Ray.
Jul 27 - 3:15 PM

Broncos GM John Elway admitted the team has "concern" with OLB DeMarcus Ware's troublesome back.

Ware has not been able to participate in OTAs. "Yeah, there's always a concern with that," said Elway. "Especially with the back, because you never really know. ... We're going to manage him and we knew that coming into this year, to take care of him. Yeah, there's a little bit of concern there." Ware turns 34 years old next month. His training camp status is to be determined.
Jun 1 - 10:03 PM

Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware (back) is not practicing at OTAs.

Coach Gary Kubiak said Ware may sit out all of OTAs while he rehabs a troublesome back which limited him to 11 games last season. Going on 34, the Broncos will likely limit Ware's practice reps all season to keep the injury in check.
May 31 - 3:14 PM

Broncos restructured OLB DeMarcus Ware's contract.

Ware was due a $10 million cap hit. His 2016 salary will be reduced to $4 million. Ware started 10-of-11 games when healthy last year, but the Broncos are paying him as a third down pass rusher.
Mar 12 - 2:36 PM

USA Today's Lindsay Jones reports DeMarcus Ware and LT Ryan Clady are expected to remain with the Broncos after restructuring their contracts.

Ware is due $10 million between salary and bonuses. A restructure seems more likely than a straight pay cut, as Ware remained highly effective at age 33 last season.
Mar 8 - 2:05 PM

Broncos GM John Elway will meet with OLB DeMarcus Ware's player rep on Friday.

Elway believes Ware wants to continue playing, but was evasive when asked if Denver will request a pay cut. "I’ll talk to him about it," Elway said. "We’ll see." Ware, who remained effective in 2015, is due $10 million between salary and bonuses. Going on 34, he's coming off a campaign where he missed five games with injury. The Broncos have a number of critical, young free agents, and could clear $10 million in cap space by cutting Ware.

Feb 25 - 9:24 PM

ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold believes there's "a chance" the team could move on from OLB DeMarcus Ware.

That's only if Ware retires or refuses to rework his deal, which includes a $7 million salary and a $3 million roster bonus. The Broncos would prefer to keep Ware, but there's a lot on John Elway's plate with Von Miller, Brock Osweiler, Danny Trevathan, and Malik Jackson all entering free agency. After his dominant postseason, it would be a huge upset if Ware didn't return to Denver.
Feb 21 - 8:51 AM

DeMarcus Ware says he isn't planning to retire.

Ware is going on 34 and missed five games with injury this season, but will keep going. "I got a lot of gas in the tank," Ware said Sunday evening. "I don't think about retiring. God still wants me to play, that's why I'm still doing what I'm doing." Headed into the final year of his contract, Ware is due $7 million, plus a $3 million roster bonus. With a number of key free agents, the Broncos could approach Ware about a restructure. Ware remained highly effective in 2015, notching 7.5 sacks in 11 games. He terrorized Cam Newton in Super Bowl 50, tallying 2.5 more quarterback takedowns.
