Raiders agreed to terms with LB Derrick Johnson, formerly of the Chiefs.
Johnson visited Oakland Thursday and came away with a concrete offer. Despite coming back from his second Achilles tear since 2014, Johnson was reasonably effective for the Chiefs last season. In their apparent blueprint to corner the market in 'veteran' talent, the Raiders are likely aware the 13-year pro turns 36 in November. May 4 - 1:05 PM

Free agent LB Derrick Johnson is visiting the Raiders on Thursday.

Johnson would certainly fit the Raiders' apparent plan to get older this offseason, but that does not mean he would be a bad signing. Despite coming back from another Achilles tear, Johnson was reasonably effective for the Chiefs last year. The 13-year pro will turn 36 during the season.

Impending free agent LB Derrick Johnson intends to keep playing in 2018.

The Chiefs announced on Tuesday that they will let Johnson's contract void on the first day of the new league year next month. Now 35, Johnson says he'd like to go somewhere he can have a chance at winning a title.

The Chiefs will not re-sign ILB Derrick Johnson when his contract voids on the first day of the new league year, letting him become a free agent.

Johnson was technically under contract for 2018 but it's a voidable year. The No. 15 overall pick of the 2005 draft, Johnson has spent his entire 13-year career in Kansas City, recently enduring a pair of Achilles' tears. Now 35, Johnson still managed to play 845 snaps in 2017. He was an every-down player earlier in the year before taking on more of a 66 percent role down the stretch. Johnson will look for a part time/leadership role on the open market.

ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher expects Kansas City to release ILB Derrick Johnson and OLB Tamba Hali.

Johnson and Hali have each been with the team for over a decade after being first-round picks in 2005 and 2006. Johnson is 35 and has come back from a pair of Achilles' tears. He graded out as a top-five cover linebacker at Pro Football Focus last season, but the Chiefs appear to be ready to move forward with Reggie Ragland inside. Hali played just 116 snaps last season. Releasing Johnson and Hali would save the Chiefs a combined $15.7 million against the cap.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') has been cleared for training camp.

He avoided the active/PUP list and should start practicing in full shortly. Johnson has torn each of his Achilles' tendons since the 2014 season and turns 35 in November, but the Chiefs are counting on him to be a 2017 starter.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') has been cleared for individual drills at minicamp.

Johnson was sidelined for all of OTAs. It's a step in the right direction, but Johnson's training camp status is still up in the air. Johnson will be nine months removed from his torn Achilles' for Week 1.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') still expects to be ready for training camp.

The 34-year-old ruptured his left Achilles' in December. Johnson optimistically said he will be ready for camp in April, and he is not backing down a month later. "I'm on track, just like last time," Johnson said. "I never want to put a date on when I'm going to be 100 percent. But will I be at camp? I can say that, yeah." Even if he is "ready," Johnson will likely take it easy early in camp, but there does not appear to be any concern about his Week 1 status.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') expects to be ready for training camp.

"If I'm not 100 percent, there will be some kind of setback," a confident Johnson said. Johnson is just four months removed from rupturing his Achilles', so it's an ambitious timeline, especially for a 34-year-old with a previous Achilles' tear. The Chiefs have zero reason to push Johnson. Week 1 will be the goal, not camp.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson has agreed to a pay cut.

So has teammate Anthony Sherman. The Chiefs will use the savings to sign Bennie Logan. Johnson's contract originally called for a $4.75 million base salary in 2017 with $1 million available in per-game bonuses. With the pay cut, he'll now earn a $1 million base salary while also receiving a $1 million signing bonus. The move saves Kansas City $4.25 million in cap space.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson (Achilles') anticipates being able to run by OTAs.

Johnson ruptured his left Achilles' in Week 14 and remains in a walking boot. He tore his right Achilles' in 2014, so he's been through this before. Johnson hopes to be ready for training camp. Heading into his age-35 season, Johnson has two years left on his contract. Johnson remained a solid player in 2016.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson has been diagnosed with a ruptured left Achilles' tendon and is done for the season.

Johnson knew it the second he went down in non-contact fashion in the first half. Coach Andy Reid simply called it a "sad deal." Reid couldn't be more right, as the 34-year-old linebacker was having another solid year as an every-down player after tearing his right Achilles' in 2014. The Chiefs still have a loaded defense for the stretch run, but were already having problems against the run. As for Johnson, it's fair to say his career is now in doubt. He's due $4.75 million in 2017, but probably won't be back at that price, and likely won't be ready for Week 1.

Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson was forced from Kansas City's Week 14 game against the Raiders with a left Achilles' injury, and will not return.

Put simply, it looked like Johnson ruptured his left Achilles'. Johnson, who tore his right Achilles' in 2014, immediately took off his helmet and tossed it in disgust, like he knew what the injury was. Per NBC's Cris Collinsworth, Johnson had been dealing with a sore left Achilles'. His loss would be crushing for the Chiefs.

Chiefs re-signed ILB Derrick Johnson to a three-year, $21 million contract.

Johnson had a bounce-back year after missing most of 2014 to Achilles surgery, leading the Chiefs with 116 tackles and four sacks. He'll remain with the only organization he's ever played for. The $7 million AAV places Johnson in the top-12 among inside linebackers. Johnson's new deal keeps him signed through 2018, his age-36 season.

Chiefs GM John Dorsey said he "will do everything" he can to re-sign impending free agent ILB Derrick Johnson.

Johnson also wants to stay in Kansas City. Even with several big names headed to the open market, the Chiefs should be able to work something out with their veteran linebacker. Johnson bounced back from an Achilles' injury to record 116 tackles and four sacks last season. He has been with the Chiefs since 2005.
