Eagles S Marlin Jackson is recovering from sports hernia surgery.
Jackson signed a two-year deal with the Eagles last offseason and has yet to play a down. He's had two ACL surgeries, a ruptured Achilles' tendon, and now this sports hernia. The former first-round pick's career is in danger. Wed, Aug 10, 2011 09:23:00 AM

Eagles placed FS Marlin Jackson on injured reserve with a torn right Achilles' tendon, ending his season.

Jackson signed a two-year deal this offseason, but he's a longshot to return to Philly in 2011. The Achilles' tendon surgery comes on top of reconstructive surgery to both knees in consecutive seasons. It's safe to say the hard-luck former first-round pick's career is jeopardy.

Eagles FS Marlin Jackson suffered a ruptured Achilles' tendon in his right foot.

The hard-luck Jackson's season is over -- and perhaps his career as well -- after a third major injury in three years. His contract wasn't guaranteed for injury, so he's likely to be released with an injury settlement. Nate Allen was next on the depth chart in Tuesday's practice, but the Eagles may opt not to rush him. Macho Harris can be moved back to safety to compete with Quintin Demps. The Eagles are not expected to pursue O.J. Atogwe regardless.

Updating a previous item, the Eagles are reportedly "fearing the worst" on the ankle injury sustained by FS Marlin Jackson in Tuesday's practice.

"It's not good," one source said. Jackson was shedding tears and punching the practice bubble walls shortly after the injury occurred. The Eagles will update his status later this week, but early indications suggest it's serious enough that he'll miss time during the season. His two-year, $6 million contract is not guaranteed for injury. Rookie Nate Allen moved up to the first team for the remainder of Tuesday's practice.

Eagles FS Marlin Jackson was carted off the practice field Tuesday with a potentially serious ankle injury.

Jackson, who is coming off back-to-back ACL surgeries the past two years, was "visibly upset" after going down without contact on a deep pass over the middle. The Eagles are now saying it's a right ankle injury, which is a relief considering his knee history. Stay tuned for updates.

Updating a previous item, Eagles FS Marlin Jackson ran with a noticeable limp at OTAs on Wednesday.

Jackson was a full participant, but almost all observers suggested he was nowhere close to 100 percent. That's understandable considering Jackson is just six months removed from his latest knee surgery. Rookie Nate Allen is going to get every chance to win the free safety job.

Eagles FS Marlin Jackson (ACL surgery) is a full participant at OTAs.

The two-year, $6 million offseason signing practiced ahead of rookie Nate Allen on Wednesday, though Allen is a good bet to supplant him by the start of the season. Quintin Demps doesn't appear to be in the mix at free safety.

Eagles signed DB Marlin Jackson to a two-year, $6 million contract, including $2 million in the first year.

Though two torn ACLs as a pro present obvious concern, Jackson says the tears were clean and that he'll be ready for training camp. A heady defensive back with lots of range and versatility when healthy, Jackson immediately joins the mix to start at free safety in Philadelphia. The former first-round pick will battle incumbent Macho Harris and perhaps Quintin Demps.

Free agent DB Marlin Jackson has left Philadelphia without a contract.

Jackson's next visit is with the Jets as he continues to make his way up I-95. He said there was mutual interest between he and the Birds, but he's going to continue to test the market. The Eagles need to address the safety position in the draft.

The Jets have reportedly set up a visit with free agent DB Marlin Jackson.

The Jets are doing their due diligence on Jackson and Brodney Pool, both of whom have major injury concerns for 2010. Jackson is currently in Philly to meet with the Eagles after visiting the Ravens on Tuesday.

The Eagles are believed to be targeting free agent Marlin Jackson to play free safety.

Jackson played free and strong safety, nickel back, and outside corner with Indianapolis. Also on the Ravens' radar, Jackson is expected to be ready for training camp. The 27-year-old is recovering from his second ACL tear.

The Eagles have set up a visit for free agent Marlin Jackson.

Jackson will meet the Iggles after traveling to Baltimore on Tuesday. A first-round pick in 2005, Jackson can play both cornerback and free safety.

Free agent CB Marlin Jackson is scheduled to visit the Ravens on Tuesday.

Jackson is still recovering from his second ACL surgery in two years, so he's probably not ready to pass a physical. He won't be counted on for a major role even if the Ravens end up signing him.

Vikings beat writer Chip Scoggins reports that the team has interest in free agent CB Marlin Jackson.

Current Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier was the Colts' DBs coach when Indianapolis drafted Jackson in the 2005 first round. The fit makes sense, but it's unclear how much Jackson has left after two torn ACLs.

The Colts failed to extend a tender offer to CB Marlin Jackson, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Jackson is recovering from ACL surgery to his left knee after undergoing the same surgery on his right knee the year before. With the emergence of Jerraud Powers and Jacob Lacey, Jackson was no longer needed.
