Giants C David Baas has agreed to restructure his contract.

It's the second consecutive year that Baas has reworked his deal, converting some base money into bonus dollars. This time, his $4.25M salary was reduced to $1.25M -- thus giving the Giants roughly $2M more in cap space. Baas started all 16 games last year.

Illuminating. Baas appeared in all 16 games last season, so it's unclear what might be ailing him. It was more than likely just a cleanup procedure.

Giants C David Baas has restructured his contract.

It's believed he's agreed to convert $2.1 million of his $3 million 2012 salary into a bonus. Baas struggled with injury last season after signing a five-year, $27.5 million deal, playing poorly as he appeared in just 11 games.

Giants C David Baas (neck, headaches) has resumed practicing.

Baas has missed the Giants' past three games with headaches brought on by a neck issue. Barring a setback, he'll most likely return to the starting lineup for this Saturday's must-win game against the Jets, though coach Tom Coughlin has remained mum on his center's status.

Giants C David Baas (headaches) hinted Wednesday that his season may be in jeopardy.

It's still unclear exactly what is wrong with Baas, as his condition is much more serious than simple headaches. He's undergoing extensive testing this week. Kevin Boothe filled in at center last week and Mitch Pietrus stepped in at left guard.

Baas went down in the second quarter and didn't return. He was replaced by Kevin Boothe, who quickly gave up a strip sack to Cardinals rookie backup DT David Carter. The G-Men have a Week 5 gimme in a home game against the Seahawks.

Giants agreed to terms with C David Baas, formerly of the 49ers.

It's a major blow to the Niners, as retaining Baas was expected to be their No. 1 priority in free agency. Eric Heitmann's career is in doubt due to a neck injury and Baas was the top center on the market. Meanwhile, the Giants get an upgrade on soon-to-be released Shaun O'Hara and still have Adam Koets for depth. It's an underrated yet strong move for the G-Men.

Free agent C David Baas "figures prominently" into the 49ers' plans going forward.

The Niners approached Baas about an extension last season, and he already has a playbook. It's fair to wonder if the team might end up surrendering a top center contract for the 29-year-old. Baas could conceivably ask for Jason Brown money. Brown signed a five-year, $37.5 million deal in the '09 offseason.

Re-signing free agent C David Baas is expected to be the 49ers' No. 1 priority when the NFL's transactions freeze ends.

Baas was one of San Francisco's top run blockers a year ago, starting all 16 games. The 49ers don't believe they can rely on injury-prone Eric Heitmann. Baas, however, may command a contract similar to Jason Brown's (five years, $37.5 million), in which case he could price himself out of the Niners' range.

Beat writer Matt Barrows believes that re-signing C David Baas will be the Niners' top priority among their own free agents.

With Tony Wragge also an unrestricted free agent and Eric Heitmann's health a question mark, the Niners need Baas badly. The former guard started 16 games a year ago and figures to draw plenty of interest on the open market.

A former guard, Baas has proven to be versatile during his six-year NFL career. The Niners are expected to try and re-sign him after he started all 16 games last season, but should face plenty of competition for Baas' services. The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows lists Dallas as one possible suitor.
