Giants released C David Baas.
The move saves $1.775 million in room, but leaves a whopping $6.45 million in "dead money" on the Giants' cap. Baas, 32, has broken down physically in recent years, and the G-Men have interest in ex-Packers C Evan Dietrich-Smith. Dietrich-Smith played under new Giants OC Ben McAdoo in Green Bay. Recovering from a knee injury, Baas may resurface on a minimum contract. Mon, Mar 10, 2014 04:38:00 PM

Profootballtalk confirms the Giants have approached C David Baas and RG Chris Snee about taking pay cuts.

They've long been considered candidates for pay cuts. A league source tells PFT the G-Men are willing to keep both players, just not at their "current wages." Now 32 and coming off an injury-ruined season, Snee must be willing to gut his $11.75 million cap number. Baas is due $4.75 million after appearing in only three games in 2013.

ESPN Giants blogger Dan Graziano considers C David Baas a "strong candidate" for a pay cut or release.

Going on 33, Baas has been racked by injury his three years in the Big Apple, and is due $4.75 million in 2014. A team in desperate need of getting younger, there's a strong chance the G-Men move on from Baas.

Giants placed C David Baas on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

Baas returned from a neck injury Monday night but injured his knee on the opening drive against the Vikings. The New York Daily News reported Baas re-injured his MCL, which gave him fits during the summer. Jim Cordle will handle center duties for the remainder of the season. Baas has two years left on his deal. He's missed 18 games in three seasons with the team.

The New York Daily News reports Giants C David Baas re-injured his left MCL in Monday night's win.

Baas injured his MCL in training camp, but missed Weeks 4-6 with a neck injury. He played just one series against the Vikings. Backup Jim Cordle will almost certainly get the start in Week 8.

Giants C David Baas is having an MRI on his left knee Tuesday.

Baas admitted he's not optimistic, suggesting a serious injury. "I can't catch a break," he said -- referring to the neck injury that caused him to miss three games earlier this year. Backup Jim Cordle has shown rapid improvement of late. Baas also sprained the MCL in his left knee during the summer.

Giants C David Baas exited Monday night's game against the Vikings with a left knee injury.

Baas was forced from the game during the Giants' 15-play opening drive that chewed up 9:36 on the clock. He recently just got over a neck injury and was seen in "significant" pain on the sideline with his knee. Jim Cordle, who played well in Baas' recent absence, will enter the game at center.

Giants C David Baas (probable, neck) has been cleared to return this week.

Baas missed three games with a neck issue, but managed to avoid season-ending surgery. Despite his struggles in pass protection, he'll immediately regain his starting job over fill-in Jim Cordle.

Giants C David Baas (neck) expects to be cleared for Week 7 against the Vikings.

Brandon Jacobs owners should probably be rooting against Baas, as New York's offensive line opened running lanes for the first time all year in Thursday night's loss to Chicago. Fill-in C Jim Cordle stood out as an effective blocker. Baas had previously considered undergoing season-ending neck surgery.

The NY Daily News reports C David Baas may need season-ending neck surgery.

Per beat writer Ralph Vacchiano, Baas "could be headed to IR." RG Chris Snee will join him there, at least allowing the Giants to get some continuity on their offensive line instead of shuffling different players in and out each week. James Brewer will be the new right guard. Jim Cordle is starting at center.

Giants C David Baas (neck) and RG Chris Snee (hip) are not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Eagles.

The woeful play of the Giants offensive line doesn't project to turn around anytime soon. Snee could be done for the year and Baas appears week to week. Replacements Jim Cordle and James Brewer are liabilities.

David Baas (neck) is inactive for Sunday's Week 4 game against the Chiefs.

The Giants will be without both Baas and starting RG Chris Snee. It's a huge concern as they're facing the Chiefs' emerging front seven. Jim Cordle will start at center and James Brewer is starting at right guard.

Giants C David Baas (knee) returned to practice Wednesday.

Bass has been out since injuring his left MCL in the second preseason game. He'll return as the Giants' starting center if he's cleared to play in Week 2, with Kevin Boothe moving back to left guard.

Giants C David Baas suffered a sprained left MCL in Sunday night's preseason game against the Colts.

It's a 2-4 week injury, and one an offensive lineman has a better chance to return from quickly than a skill-position player might. If Baas can't play in Week 1, Kevin Boothe would likely kick from left guard to center. Rookie Justin Pugh could get some reps at guard this week. He's practiced at tackle to this point.

Giants C David Baas underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow earlier this week.

It's the second surgery of the offseason for Baas. In February, coach Tom Coughlin revealed that 31-year-old Baas underwent "a little surgery on his body." He is expected to miss OTAs, but Baas should be good to go for training camp.
