Former Titans and Bucs QB Chris Simms is turning his sights to coaching opportunities this year.

Simms was out of the league last year as well as most of the 2010 season. The No. 97 pick in the 2003 draft has thrown fewer than 20 total passes since rupturing his spleen early in the 2006 season. If his career is over, Simms finishes with a 58.1 completion rate, 12:18 TD-to-INT ratio, 6.1 YPA, and a 69.1 passer rating, mostly with Tampa Bay.

Free agent Chris Simms was found not guilty Wednesday on charges of driving while intoxicated last July.

Simms hired big-time attorney Harvey Steinberg to represent him, and got off after his friends took the fall for smoking marijuana in the back of his car. If the officers who detained Simms were to be believed, he looked plenty guilty. Simms now will have a chance to resurface as a third-stringer somewhere.

Free agent Chris Simms blames his friends for smoking marijuana in his car just prior to his July 1 arrest for DWI.

Simms' defense is that his friends smoked weed in the car, but he didn't. "He was out of it," is how one officer described Simms after the stop. "Like a zombie." The officer testified Monday that Simms drive highly erratically, and walked "unsteadily" after exiting the vehicle. Simms refused to take a urine test and passed out on a holding-cell floor upon detainment.

Free agent QB Chris Simms is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to address a driving under the influence of marijuana charge.

Simms rejected a "last-chance plea" in January, and his trial begins today. The 30-year-old career backup is in danger of being convicted of a misdemeanor.

Free agent QB Chris Simms will go to trial on March 1, facing charges that he was driving under the influence of marijuana last July.

Simms could've accepted a plea deal requiring he do just five days of community service and pay a $500 fine, but he's really fighting this one. "See you March 1," he told reporters Friday. If convicted, he could face up to a year behind bars. The Titans did sign Simms after the arrest, so the league doesn't seem overly concerned about it. He is not signed for 2011.

Titans signed QB Chris Simms.

Simms knows coordinator Mike Heimerdinger's offense, and he was with the team until cut-down day in September. His short stint with the Broncos last season was a disaster, however, and he's being signed only as a backup to Rusty Smith until Kerry Collins (calf) is ready to take over in a week or two.

The Titans worked out free agent QBs Chris Simms, J.T. O'Sullivan, and Brett Ratliff on Tuesday.

"Simms will be signed," says the Nashville Tennessean's Jim Wyatt. Simms has had multiple stints with the Titans and was in training camp over the summer. Familiar with Mike Heimerdinger's offense, he'll back up Rusty Smith this week. If Smith faceplants, Simms could be called upon to start against the Jags in Week 13.

Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt called free agent Chris Simms "an option" Sunday when discussing possible quarterback additions.

Tennessee is going to add one, if not two quarterbacks this week with Kerry Collins (calf) out indefinitely and Vince Young's time in Nashville almost certainly over. Rookie Rusty Smith did nothing to inspire confidence off the bench against the Redskins. Simms wouldn't be a great alternative, but at least knows OC Mike Heimerdinger's system. Simms was released in early September by the Titans and hasn't latched on elsewhere.

Free agent QB Chris Simms pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of driving under the influence of marijuana.

Simms has not drawn interest from QB-needy teams since the Titans released him on cut-down day. That probably has more to do with his game tape than the marijuana charge.

Titans released QB Chris Simms.

No surprise here. The Titans typically only carry two quarterbacks, and Simms didn't do himself any favors with his summer arrest for driving under the influence of marijuana. Kerry Collins is set to earn $5.5 million as Vince Young's backup.

Titans QB Chris Simms' court date for driving under the influence of marijuana has been pushed back to October 7.

Simms didn't make it to court on Monday because the Titans have a game against the Cardinals. The judge turned down the DA office's request for an arrest warrant, choosing instead to push back Simms' court date.

Titans QB Chris Simms denies smoking marijuana prior to his arrest for driving under the influence Thursday morning.

Simms allegedly told police during the arrest that he "was smoking marijuana in the car earlier." He was driving his eight-months pregnant wife. "My client never admitted to smoking marijuana that night," said Simms' attorney. "He said he was smoking cigarettes." Simms' lawyer claims two other men were in the car, and wants the DA to "investigate whether those two individuals were responsible for the marijuana odor." A source told the New York Post that only Simms and his wife were in the car.

The NY Post reports that Titans QB Chris Simms was arrested Thursday morning for driving while under the influence of marijuana.

During a 2AM traffic stop, police observed Simms had "red eyes, flushed face and slurred speech." The arrest figures to crush his chances of landing a roster spot in Tennessee behind Vince Young and Kerry Collins. Phil's son was nothing short of a disaster in spot action with Denver last year, and has seemed shell shocked since his life-threatening spleen injury in 2006.

Titans signed QB Chris Simms to a one-year contract.

Simms, 30 before the season, was so bad in spot duty last year that he had to be pulled mid-game in favor of an injured Kyle Orton. The Titans will see if he's got anything left in training camp, but Simms never seemed to get over his ruptured spleen in 2006, and may be permanently shell shocked.
