Free agent LB Barrett Ruud worked out for the Bears on Tuesday.
Ruud bounced around three different teams in a reserve role last season. Going on 30, Ruud recorded 12 tackles and a sack for the Texans in 2012. He would provide veteran depth for Chicago's depleted linebacker corps. Wed, Apr 10, 2013 04:31:00 PM

Texans declared LB Barrett Ruud, CB Roc Carmichael, CB Brandon Harris, SS Quintin Demps, OT Andrew Gardner, OG Cody White and OG Brandon Brooks inactive for Week 6 against the Packers.

Ben Tate (toe) is active. Ruud was signed Wednesday to take ILB Brian Cushing's (torn ACL) roster spot, but apparently isn't up-to-date enough on the playbook. Tim Dobbins will start in Cushing's place. Second-year WR Lestar Jean (knee surgery) is back following a two-week absence.

Texans signed ILB Barrett Ruud and promoted G Cody White from the practice squad.

It's fallout from the Brian Cushing injury. Ruud will bring seven years of experience and 77 starts as a middle linebacker to the Texans' suddenly shaky linebacking corps. He'll back up starters Tim Dobbins and Bradie James.

Saints acquired MLB Barrett Ruud from the Seahawks in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

Their linebacker corps devastated by suspensions (Jonathan Vilma, Lawrence Wilson, Ramon Humber) and injuries (Chris Chamberlain, David Hawthorne, Curtis Lofton), the Saints were desperate for help at the position. 29-year-old Ruud lost out to impressive rookie Bobby Wagner for the starting middle linebacker in Seattle, but figures to compete for the top gig in New Orleans. Once healthy, Lofton could move to the strong side and Hawthorne will stick on the weak side.

Seahawks LB Barrett Ruud (knee, shoulder) has been practicing since training camp opened on Saturday.

Ruud spent more time rehabbing than practicing during the offseason, allowing second-rounder Bobby Wagner to gain a toe-hold on the starting job. Wagner continues to work with the first-team during camp, and he's a prime candidate to take over play-calling duties.

Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that projected starting MLB Barrett Ruud is not healthy.

Ruud continues to recover from groin, knee, and shoulder injuries that cost him seven games in 2011. "He is working out, and he’s doing a lot of stuff," Carroll said. "But we’re going to be very careful with him in bringing him back." After struggling mightily a season ago, the 28-year-old will need to get back to full health if he hopes to hold down a starting job on an up-and-coming defense.

Barrett Ruud is expected to start at middle linebacker for the Seahawks this season.

"They like his veteran presence and his knowledge of the system," a team source tells Pro Football Weekly. Ruud played under DC Gus Bradley with the Bucs from 2007-08. He'll be taken off the field on passing downs, when the Seahawks use their "Big Nickel" alignment with SS Kam Chancellor moving to the middle.

Seahawks signed LB Barrett Ruud, CB Roy Lewis, and OG Deuce Lutui to one-year contracts.

Ruud is one of the least effective inside linebackers in football, but he at least gives Seattle a veteran presence at the position after David Hawthorne got away. Lewis is a special teamer, but the Seahawks won't want him playing as much defense as he did last year. Lutui will earn a spot if he's in shape.

The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans are not expected to re-sign free agent MLB Barrett Ruud.

Ruud was badly outplayed by rookie Colin McCarthy down the stretch last season, and landed on injured reserve in December with a groin injury. He underwent shoulder surgery in January. One of the league's worst linebackers before going down, Ruud says he "absolutely" has not considered retirement.

Ruud's regular season ended on injured reserve with a groin ailment, so he'll be nursing two injuries entering free agency. Ruud turns 29 in May. He was severely outplayed by rookie Colin McCarthy down the season's stretch.

Ruud had been inactive the past three weeks due to the injury. The 28-year-old will finish his seventh season with 57 tackles. Now that rookie Colin McCarthy has emerged as the future starter in the middle, Ruud will be playing elsewhere in 2012. He's an impending free agent.

Titans declared MLB Barrett Ruud (groin) inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills.

The Titans can afford to play it safe with Ruud as rookie Colin McCarthy continues to impress. Meanwhile, Jared Cook passed his concussion tests and is a full go. The rest of the Titans' inactives: QB Rusty Smith, WR Donnie Avery, T Byron Stingily, C Kevin Matthews, DT Zach Clayton and CB Tommie Campbell.

Titans MLB Barrett Ruud (groin) has been ruled out for Week 13.

Replacement Colin McCarthy has 28 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception over the past three games and will make another start. Neither linebacker has graded out particularly well against the run, but McCarthy will continue to be a starter in IDP leagues. Ruud doesn't have a timetable for return.

The Titans have ruled out MLB Barrett Ruud (groin) for Week 12.

IDP leaguers should know that rookie Colin McCarthy will start in Ruud's place, and the fourth-round pick has been an absolute beast in previous spot appearances. The Titans have not provided a timetable for Ruud to return.
