Texans signed CB Stanford Routt to a one-year contract.

He's canceled his workout for the Steelers. Released by the 3-9 Raiders and 2-10 Chiefs, Routt will add depth for the 11-1 Texans with Johnathan Joseph and Alan Ball injured and Brice McCain on I.R. Routt played his college ball at the University of Houston.

Free agent CB Stanford Routt is scheduled to work out for the Steelers this week.

If the Texans don't sign Routt after a Tuesday workout, he's headed straight to Pittsburgh. They're looking for veteran corner help after losing Ike Taylor (ankle) for 3-6 weeks. Routt has been on the street since the Chiefs paid him to go away back in early November.

Texans will work out free agent CB Stanford Routt on Tuesday.

Houston is pretty decimated in the secondary with Johnathan Joseph missing the past two games with a hamstring injury and Brice McCain now likely done for the season with a foot issue. Routt was released by the Chiefs in early November and worked out for the Lions shortly after.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, free agent CB Stanford Routt clashed with coaches and missed curfew before being cut by the Chiefs.

Routt was getting torched on the field and not acting professionally off it. He reportedly wanted to use the technique he learned in Oakland instead of adapting to the Chiefs' scheme and Schefter says the coaches there "did not like him." It helps explain why they paid him $6 million to go away two weeks ago.

Free agent CB Stanford Routt left his Lions visit Friday without a contract in place with the team.

"You’ll know the news when there is news to be known," Routt said after the visit. "I’ve got several different things on my plate right now so we’ll just see how it goes." He's also gotten interest from the Dolphins and Cardinals.

The Lions will reportedly host free agent CB Stanford Routt on Friday.

At 6'1" and 195 pounds, Routt offers size and experience lacking in the Lions secondary. While Chris Houston has played well this season, Jacob Lacey and Bill Bentley have disappointed on the other side.

Per the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are not interested in free agent CB Stanford Routt at this time.

Even after they gave up 433 passing yards to Andrew Luck and lost Richard Marshall (back) for the season, the Dolphins are passing on Routt. It's a reminder that 4.27 wheels can't cure everything. Routt was also reportedly drawing interest from the Cardinals and Lions.

Free agent CB Stanford Routt is drawing interest from the Dolphins, Cardinals, and Lions.

Routt cleared waivers after being cut by the Chiefs on Monday. The 29-year-old allowed a dreadful 64.1 completion percentage, 491 yards, and three touchdowns in seven games as Kansas City's right corner this year, according to Pro Football Focus. Quarterbacks had an astronomical 111.9 rating throwing at Routt. Miami lost Richard Marshall (back) to injured reserve, Arizona has employed a rotation opposite Patrick Peterson, and Detroit's secondary has been ravaged by injuries. Routt should be able to find a job before season's end.

Chiefs waived CB Stanford Routt.

We're starting to get scapegoats in Kansas City. Even though Routt is a vested veteran, all players must pass through waivers this time of season. A starter through Week 8, Routt was a healthy scratch for Week 9. Javier Arenas will now start opposite Brandon Flowers, leaving Jalil Brown for nickel duties. Making $6 million in the first year of a three-year deal, Routt has graded out as the 16th worst cornerback in Pro Football Focus' rankings, so the move is justified, if surprising. He should draw plenty of interest as veteran depth for the stretch run.

Chiefs RCB Stanford Routt (hamstring) is inactive for Thursday night's game against the Chargers.

Javier Arenas will step into the starting lineup opposite Brandon Flowers, and Jalil Brown will handle nickel duties. Lucky for the Chiefs, San Diego is decimated at receiver this week with Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal out. Kansas City also declared WR Devon Wylie, QB Brady Quinn, NT Jerrell Powe, RB Nate Eachus, LB Bryan Kehl, and OL Bryan Mattison inactive.

Chiefs RCB Stanford Routt (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Thursday night's game against the Chargers.

Routt practiced on Monday but was limited on Tuesday and Wednesday, so he was likely injured during the practice week. If he is forced to miss, Javier Arenas would start, and Jalil Brown would handle nickel duties. After signing a three-year deal in the offseason, Routt hasn't played very well, allowing a 64.1 percent completion rate for 491 yards and three touchdowns in his coverage, according to Pro Football Focus. San Diego is battling similar injuries in their receiving corps.

Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Stanford Routt on a three-year, $20 million contract.

The numbers reported by NFL Network's Jason La Canfora are $19.6 million with a $4 million signing bonus. It's starter money, and makes it likely that the Chiefs will let free agent CB Brandon Carr break the bank on the open market. Expect Dwayne Bowe to get the franchise tag. Routt, who turns 29 before the season, is a press-man corner and fits Romeo Crennel's scheme. While he allowed too many touchdown passes (8) and committed too many penalties (17) last year, Routt posted career highs in interceptions (4) and pass breakups (15). Pro Football Focus graded Routt as the NFL's 19th-best corner in terms of coverage. While Carr will command more money, PFF had him 21st.

Profootballtalk.com expects free agent CB Stanford Routt to finalize a new contract on Monday, and considers Kansas City his most likely landing spot.

Routt has been greeted by a soft market, but would be landing on his feet in Kansas City, where he would get to play in a system similar to the one in Oakland. Routt's signing would likely signal the end of free agent Brandon Carr's time with the Chiefs.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk.com free agent CB Stanford Routt is close to picking a new team.

Routt has visited the Bills, Chiefs, and Bengals, but has reportedly had trouble "generating real interest in his services." It could be an indication he'll have to settle for a one-year deal. With the Chiefs potentially losing Brandon Carr to free agency, Kansas City may be Routt's most likely destination.
