Corey Webster has agreed to take a pay cut in order to remain with the Giants.
The move saves $4.5 million in salary cap room. Webster had all the makings of a true No. 1 corner as recently as midway through the 2011 season. Since then, his play has tailed off dramatically. It came to a head this past year, when he graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 109 corner out of 113 qualifying players. Webster will play out the final year of his deal for $4 million instead of the $7.25 million he was scheduled to earn. Mar 7 - 11:55 AM

ESPN New York suggests CB Corey Webster may need to take a pay cut this offseason.

Webster is due $7.25 million in the final year of a six-year pact, which is awfully high for a guy that was completely torched in 2012. According to Pro Football Focus, opposing quarterbacks had a 106.6 rating when throwing at Webster. He graded out as their fourth-worst corner out of a qualifying 113 players. Webster will turn 31 in March.

The Daily News suggests the Giants could ask CB Corey Webster to take a paycut this offseason.

Once considered a rising star as a shadow corner, Webster's play has fallen off dramatically over the last year-and-a-half. It came to a head in Week 16 as the Ravens chose to relentlessly attack Webster instead of rookie Jayron Hosley. He's due $7 million in 2013, the final chapter of a six-year deal signed in 2008. The Giants could be thinking about moving forward with Hosley and Prince Amukamara as their base corners.

Giants CB Corey Webster suffered a broken right hand in Thursday's win over the Panthers.

The injury may have occurred in a tussle with Panthers WR Steve Smith, which is never advised. Webster missed time in the first half to get X-rays and a hard cast, but returned for the second half. He's confident that he will play next week versus the Eagles.

The New York Daily News believes CB Corey Webster's play dropped off towards the end of last season.

Beat writer Ralph Vacchiano considers Webster's performance against the Cowboys the worst he's ever seen from the veteran corner. Added one scout, "He wasn't good last year, either." The Giants secondary suddenly has the look of one that can be exploited for fantasy purposes.

Giants LCB Corey Webster believes his play this season places him in the Darrelle Revis class of cornerbacks.

"I think I'm great," Webster said. "I think I'm the best thing out there. I don't think I'm second to nobody." Webster spent the majority of the Giants' regular-season win over the Patriots covering Deion Branch, and held Michael Crabtree to a three-yard reception in the NFC Championship. His 52 tackles and six interceptions this season are both career highs.

Giants LCB Corey Webster was added to the injury report with a sore hamstring.

Mid-week soft-tissue injuries always raise red flags, but this one doesn't appear to be serious enough to hold Webster out this weekend even if he didn't do much in practice. The Giants will need Webster close to full capacity against surging wideouts Roddy White and Julio Jones.

The Giants are now using usual LCB Corey Webster to shadow opposing No. 1 receivers.

Webster has been assigned to Larry Fitzgerald, Sidney Rice, and Stevie Johnson over the past three games. They've been held to 16 catches for 132 yards combined, not including Fitzgerald's Week 4 47-yard jump ball over S Deon Grant. Webster isn't quite a shutdown corner, but this could be a concern for some of the weaker "No. 1" receivers coming up on New York's schedule.

Giants declared CB Corey Webster, C Shaun O'Hara, WR Hakeem Nicks, DE Dave Tollefson, WR Duke Calhoun, TE Jake Ballard, G Mitch Petrus, and T Jamon Meredith inactive for Sunday's Week 17 game.

Webster (knee/ribs) made the trip but ultimately wasn't healthy enough to dress. Aaron Ross will likely start in his place. Santana Moss gets a nice boost in value with Webster out. Mario Manningham is the only Giants wideout worthy of starting in fantasy leagues.

Giants LCB Corey Webster (toe) is listed as probable for Week 11.

Eagles owners hoping for a matchup upgrade can forget it. Webster hasn't made a lot of big plays this year (two picks), but he's been rock solid in coverage. He'll still have his hands full with DeSean Jackson on Sunday.

Giants CB Corey Webster (toe) sat out Thursday's practice.

Webster injured his toe in the Giants' first practice this week. He was working on the exercise bike during practice and it's not clear at this point if the Giants' top cornerback will be able to play in Week 11. Aaron Ross would start if Webster is unable to go.

Giants CB Corey Webster (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Minnesota.

Upgrade the Vikings' passing attack. Webster will end the season with 51 tackles, an interception, and 12 passes defended. Kevin Dockery will start in his place.

Giants CB Corey Webster (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers.

Upgrade Steve Smith a little bit, as Aaron Ross (hamstring) is also inactive. Rookie Kevin Dockery will start. The other Giants inactives are WR Ramses Barden, RB Danny Ware, OT Kareem McKenzie, OG Rich Seubert, WR Sinorice Moss and TE Scott Chandler.

Giants cornerbacks Corey Webster (knee) and Aaron Ross (hamstring) are considered doubtful for this week's game against the Panthers.

Coach Tom Coughlin said Webster's knee injury isn't supposed to be serious, but it's not improving. The absence of both corners is good news for Steve Smith (a/k/a "89"), though it didn't seem to hurt the Giants defense when they dismantled the Redskins last week.

Corey Webster's knee is not healing as fast as it's supposed to, according to coach Tom Coughlin.

It sounds like Webster is in danger of missing his second straight game. Aaron Ross (hamstring) is also in doubt, meaning rookie Kevin Dockery could be headed for another start against the Panthers.
