Seahawks hired Lofa Tatupu as assistant LBs coach.
Tatupu was the 45th overall pick in the 2005 draft by the Seahawks and spent his entire six-year playing career in Seattle before knee injuries sent his career off the deep end. Date:

Free agent MLB Lofa Tatupu will work out for the Broncos on Tuesday.

We haven't heard from Tatupu since he was released by the Falcons in July 2012 after suffering a torn pectoral. The 31-year-old hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2010 due to injuries. He underwent double knee surgery in January 2011. Tatupu was a heck of a middle linebacker with Seattle from 2005-2010.

Falcons released MLB Lofa Tatupu.

Atlanta is swallowing Tatupu's $600,000 guarantee and "cutting their losses" after Tatupu didn't even make it through the offseason program healthy. This may be the end of the line for the onetime Seahawks star, who is still only 29 years old but simply can't stay off the shelf. Due to a torn pectoral muscle, Tatupu isn't going to play football before the 2013 season.

Falcons coach Mike Smith confirmed that MLB Lofa Tatupu will miss the entire 2012 season with a torn pectoral muscle.

Tatupu, 29, will undergo surgery to repair the injury. Although he signed a two-year, $5.75 million contract in March, only $600,000 was guaranteed. It's unlikely that he will ever play a down for the Falcons. Last year's third-rounder, Akeem Dent, is the favorite to start at middle linebacker.

Falcons MLB Lofa Tatupu (pectoral) is scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews on Monday.

A date with Dr. Andrews is never a good sign. Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tatupu's injury is "serious" and he is not expected to be available when the Falcons open training camp on Thursday. Akeem Dent has a leg up on the starting middle 'backer gig already.

Falcons MLB Lofa Tatupu sustained a "serious" pectoral injury while lifting weights Friday.

The severity of the injury has not been reported, but the ex-Seahawk is not expected to be ready for the start of training camp. If the pectoral is torn, the Falcons could send him to the PUP list to open the year. Tatupu, 29, missed all of last season due to chronic knee issues. He was signed in March to compete with Akeem Dent for the starting middle linebacker job.

Falcons MLB Lofa Tatupu admits that injuries were not the reason he was out of football last season.

Following double knee surgery in January of 2011, Tatupu was released by Seattle just under a year ago. "It wasn’t anything to do with concussions or lingering injuries," Tatupu said. "I was ready to play last season. I got released ... and I just didn’t catch on with anybody." Tatupu is competing with Akeem Dent for the starting MLB job in Atlanta.

Lofa Tatupu is practicing as the Falcons' starting middle linebacker at OTAs.

A camp battle with Akeem Dent is forthcoming, but the Falcons are giving the more experienced player the first shot. Tatupu, 29, missed last season due to chronic knee problems. He doesn't appear to have any lingering issues. The winner will likely only be a two-down 'backer, so there is limited IDP appeal here.

Falcons agreed to terms with MLB Lofa Tatupu on a two-year, $5.75 million contract.

It's likely an incentive-laden, one-year deal after Tatupu was unable to get on the field in 2011 coming off of twin knee surgeries. He worked out for the Saints and Titans before visiting the Falcons on Friday. His signing all but assures MLB Curtis Lofton will be allowed to walk in free agency. Released by the Seahawks on the eve of training camp last summer, Pro Football Focus rated Tatupu as one of the league's worst linebackers in 2010. He'll turn 30 in November.

Free agent MLB Lofa Tatupu worked out for the Falcons on Friday.

Tatupu had visited the Saints and Titans last month. Expected to lose Curtis Lofton to free agency, the Falcons are looking for low-cost alternatives. Tatupu will have to prove to interested teams that he's over his knee troubles of the past couple of years.

According to the National Football Post, teams are more worried about free agent Lofa Tatupu's medical history than "whether or not he still has ability."

Tatupu has an extensive history of both knee injuries and concussions. His knees were reportedly the reason he sat out in 2011. Tatupu visited the Saints and Titans last week, but does not appear to be on the verge of signing a contract.

Free agent MLB Lofa Tatupu visited with the Titans on Tuesday.

Titans GM Ruston Webster mentioned the defensive front seven as a top offseason priority. Tatupu would provide veteran insurance for Tennessee's young linebacking corps. The 29-year-old had visited the Saints on Monday.

Free agent MLB Lofa Tatupu visited the Saints on Monday.

The Saints were not one of the teams to show interest in Tatupu after he was released last summer, but are the first club he's visited since announcing his intentions to play in 2012. He'd provide insurance at middle linebacker after Jonathan Vilma was limited to 11 games by a knee injury in 2011.

A source close to the situation told the National Football Post that free agent MLB Lofa Tatupu sat out the 2011 season due to knee problems.

Tatupu had both of his knees surgically repaired before the season, and we suspect he was unable to pass physicals in team tryouts. "It was just injury-related," the source said. "He wasn’t 100 percent and didn’t feel he was ready to go." Tatupu is still only 29 and plans to make a comeback in 2012. The Bears, Redskins, and Raiders showed interest in Tatupu last offseason.

Former Seahawks LB Lofa Tatupu has generated scant interest on the free agent market since being released on July 31.

Tatupu tried out for the Redskins and Raiders in early August, but hasn't been linked to any teams since. Clearly in decline last season, Tatupu underwent dual knee surgeries in January and may not be able to pass physicals. The 29-year-old could conceivably take the year off to get his body back to 100 percent.
