Chiefs P Dustin Colquitt sustained a knee injury in the first quarter of Sunday's Week 4 game against the Giants, but quickly returned.
Colquitt went down when the Giants came with heavy pressure on a punt and just missed a block. After getting taped up, he came back in to handle punting duties. Punters can be tough guys, too. Sun, Sep 29, 2013 01:39:00 PM

Chiefs re-signed P Dustin Colquitt to a five-year, $18.75 million contract, including $8.9 million guaranteed.

The deal makes Colquitt the NFL's highest paid punter. $8.9 million guaranteed is unheard of for a specialist. Going on 31, Colquitt was recently deemed a "bomber" by new Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub, who is among the most well respected assistants in football. Colquitt earned his first Pro Bowl trip in 2012. He's also consistently been among the most dangerous directional punters in the game with egg-beater punts that are difficult to catch.

New Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub is pushing for the team to re-sign free agent P Dustin Colquitt.

Colquitt earned the first Pro Bowl berth of his eight-year career in 2012 by leading the league with 20 punts inside the 10-yard line. "I like the punter," Toub said. "I like him a lot. I never really had a punter than bombed the ball like this."

Free agent P Dustin Colquitt hopes to re-sign with the Chiefs.

"I’d like to finish things up with the Chiefs if that’s at all possible," said Colquitt. "I’ve had a chance to talk with Andy (Reid) and John (Dorsey). I really like their direction and how they operate and the people they are." Colquitt earned a Pro Bowl trip for his 2012 performance. He turns 31 in May.

According to Chiefs P Dustin Colquitt, Todd Haley believed Josh McDaniels was cheating during his stint as Broncos head coach.

"It has something to do with the Spygate, the videotaping," Colquitt said, explaining why Haley refused to shake McDaniels' hand after a game last year. "... And I think that Haley was like, ‘Listen, based on that game I can tell what you are doing, and you are cheating.’ ... So Todd was just kind of saying, ‘Look, with the game plan we had and what you guys already knew we were gonna do, this is’ ... basically saying it was ‘bush, bush league.’"

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said Wednesday that P Dustin Colquitt is still affected by his groin injury.

It's the same injury that kept him out two games earlier this season. If Colquitt re-strains that groin, P Steve Weatherford will have to step in.

The Chiefs downgraded to P Dustin Colquitt to out and signed P Steve Weatherford.

Colquitt is one Kansas City's best players, which says a lot. He didn't make the trip to New York. Weatherford was with New Orleans the last few years.

Chiefs re-signed punter Dustin Colquitt to a five-year contract.

Colquitt doesn't have a monster leg, but puts a nasty spin on the ball and returners rarely gain yards against him. He would've been a restricted FA.

Pro Bowl kick returner Dante Hall is among many impressed by rookie punter Dustin Colquitt, whose kicks have a unique spin.

''I figured out what it does,'' Hall said. ''It starts left, goes right, comes back left, hangs and does some other freaky stuff. I haven't had a guy give me that much trouble at any level - college, high school, the pros. He's well worth the third-round pick.''

Chiefs signed punter Dustin Colquitt, a third-round pick, to a three-year contract.

A shocking first-day choice by the Chiefs, Colquitt has wowed Chiefs camp with the unique spin he puts on the ball. He'll start.

The Chiefs drafted punter Dustin Colquitt with the 99th pick in the NFL Draft.

A punter on day one? Dick Vermeil loves special teams, but using one of his two first day picks on a punter is questionable considering their defensive depth.
