Free agent K Dave Rayner is visiting the Steelers on Wednesday.
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests a signing could be in the works. Rayner, who converted just 10-of-15 (67 percent) field goals in seven games with the Bills last year, would then challenge incumbent Shaun Suisham in training camp. Wed, May 9, 2012 11:35:00 AM

Bills placed K Dave Rayner (groin) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Rayner filled in for Rian Lindell (injured reserve, shoulder) over the last seven games. He made just 10-of-15 field goals, including two misses from 39 yards out or closer. Brandon Coutu will be the Bills' kicker in Week 17.

Bills signed K Dave Rayner.

Rayner is filling in for Rian Lindell (shoulder), who is out indefinitely. Rayner has kicked well in spot chances over the last few years, but fantasy owners can find safer options. Lindell received more than two field goal attempts just once in eight games this season.

The Bills worked out free agent kickers Dave Rayner, Rhys Lloyd, Shayne Graham and Brandon Coutu.

With Rian Lindell (shoulder) out indefinitely, the Bills are holding an open tryout. ESPN's Adam Schefter pegs Rayner as the heavy favorite.

Raiders waived K Dave Rayner.

Rayner booted just one kickoff in the shutout against the Chiefs last week. Sebastian Janikowski (hamstring) is back on the field for Tuesday's bye-week practice, a sign that he will be good to go for Week 9.

Raiders signed K Dave Rayner, formely of the Cowboys.

You can officially rule out Sebastian Janikowski (hamstring) for Week 7. The Raiders are on bye in Week 8, so it's possible Rayner's stint with the team will last all of one week. You should be able to find a better Janikowski fill-in on the waiver wire.

In addition to free agent kickers Nick Novak and Jeff Reed, the Chargers are also working out Dave Rayner on Tuesday.

Reed has been the most accurate of the three, but he's a liability on kickoffs. Rayner has a big leg and went 13-for-16 on field goals with the Lions late last season.

Cowboys signed K Dave Rayner, formerly of the Lions.

Rayner joins Shayne Graham, Dan Bailey, and David Buehler (hip) in what is now a four-man competition. "Obviously if they had the guy they wanted already here they wouldn’t have brought me in," said a confident Rayner.

The Cowboys are planning to work out free agent K Dave Rayner.

The Cowboys have four kickers in camp, but two are injured and they're clearly not thrilled with incumbent David Buehler. Rayner has a big leg and went 13-for-16 on field goal tries last season. We'd prefer him to Buehler.

Lions released K Dave Rayner.

Jason Hanson will stick around for his 20th season as a Lion. Rayner went 13-for-16 in place of an injured Hanson over the final eight games of last year, but the job was always the veteran's to lose.

Lions agreed to terms with K Dave Rayner on a one-year contract.

After drilling 13-of-16 field goals in eight games last year, Rayner was told he would compete against Jason Hanson for the kicking job. It's the first time in nearly 20 years that the Lions will stage a kicking battle.

Free agent K Dave Rayner says he would "love" to re-sign with the Lions, but realizes it will come down to a business decision.

Jason Hanson has two years left on his contract, so the Lions would have to cut him to retain Rayner, who nailed 13-of-16 field goal tries last season. "I would love to be here, obviously," Rayner said. "I'm going to have a little to do with it, but a lot of it's more Jason and management, stuff like that."

Dave Rayner is considered kicking insurance for the Lions in Jason Hanson (knee) doesn't bounce back healthy this summer.

There won't be a traditional competition at the position this summer because Hanson is expected to keep his job as long as his knee checks out. If he struggles, though, the Lions won't hesitate to turn to Rayner.

The Lions may not have room for both Dave Rayner and Jason Hanson, speculates the Detroit Free Press.

Rayner's fate may be decided by the NFL's competition committee. If the kickoffs move up to the 35-yard line, there won't be much need for kickoff specialists. Hanson is under contract and figures to beat out Rayner for the placekicking job if healthy.

Lions extended a restricted free agent tender to K Dave Rayner.

The Lions want to keep Rayner around through the summer with Jason Hanson coming off three leg injuries in 2010. Originally seen as Hanson insurance, Rayner could end competing for the kicking job in training camp.
