Colts released G/T Trai Essex.
The Colts obviously didn't like what they saw when Essex was brought in to play right guard in the second half last week. They're keeping Seth Olsen over him. Tue, Sep 25, 2012 11:19:00 AM

Colts signed G/T Trai Essex and waived OT Mike Person and C A.Q. Shipley.

29-year-old Essex knows Colts OC Bruce Arians' offense from their days together in the Steel City. Essex is a legitimate candidate to start at right tackle in Week 2 with RT Winston Justice trying to overcome a Week 1 concussion.

Steelers released or waived G/T Trai Essex, QB Jerrod Johnson, S Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith, CBs Terrence Frederick and Josh Victorian, LBs Brandon Hicks and Marshall McFadden, DL Corbin Bryant, Ikponmwosa Igbinosun and Jake Stoller, RB DuJuan Harris, WRs Derrick Williams, Marquis Maze, Tyler Beiler, David Gilreath and Toney Clemons, OL Ryan Lee and John Malecki.

A perennial under-performer, the 29-year-old Essex might finally be done in the Steel City. A seventh-round pick out of Colorado, Clemons is likely headed to the practice squad. The Steelers currently have just four wideouts on their 53-man roster.

Steelers re-signed T/G Trai Essex.

Essex has started 24 games over the past three seasons in Pittsburgh, but performed poorly. The former third-round pick will compete for a roster spot as a swing-type reserve. Essex turned 29 years old in December.

Trai Essex will start at left tackle against the Texans this week if Jonathan Scott (ankle) can't go.

The Steelers' line is underperforming and is now ravaged by injury. Essex was just signed off the street last month and would be a liability on Ben Roethlisberger's blind side. To make matters worse, he would be facing off with elite pass rusher Mario Williams.

Steelers G/T Trai Essex acknowledged that he remained unsigned until this week because he had put on too much weight in the offseason.

Essex was recovering from ankle surgery, so it's easy to see why his aerobic work may have lagged behind. The money quote from Essex: He's lost "two babies" worth of weight since training camp started.

Steelers re-signed G/T Trai Essex.

Essex must now be healthy after undergoing ankle surgery after the season. The Steelers showed little interest in bringing him back after the lockout, but his versatility is a plus with tackles Jonathan Scott and Marcus Gilbert nursing knee sprains. Guard Nevin McCaskill was waived to create roster space.

Steelers RG Trai Essex underwent ankle surgery after the season.

Essex was listed with the ankle injury at multiple points during the year. An impending free agent, Essex has six accrued seasons and won't be restricted on the open market. He has experience starting at both guard and offensive tackle, but performed poorly as both a run and pass blocker in 2010.

Steelers RG Trai Essex (ankle) returned to the starting lineup Sunday night, as expected.

Doug Legursky headed back to the bench after filling in for the previous four games. Rashard Mendenhall averaged 4.7 yards per carry in Week 8, his best rate since Week 3.

Steelers RG Trai Essex (ankle) is expected to reclaim his starting job this week now that he's healthy.

This is a minor upset. Fill-in Doug Legursky had played well at first, but he struggled with penalties while Rashard Mendenhall found fewer holes the past couple of games.

Steelers declared OG Trai Essex, CB Keenan Lewis, RB Jonathan Dwyer, CB Crezdon Butler, OT Tony Hills, NT Chris Hoke, WR Emmanuel Sanders, and LB Thaddeus Gibson inactive for Week 4 against the Ravens.

The Steelers have no reason to rush Essex back with Doug Legursky excelling as a fill-in at right guard.

Steelers RG Trai Essex (ankle) has a shot to return for this week's game against the Ravens.

Fill-in Doug Legursky helped pave the way for Rashard Mendenhall's 143-yard effort against the Bucs. "I think that's why Trai is feeling better," coach Mike Tomlin said. Mendenhall owners should be rooting for Legursky to take the job for good.
Tue, Sep 28, 2010 01:34:00 PM

Steelers RG Trai Essex (ankle) will not play against the Bucs on Sunday.

Essex will be replaced by Doug Legursky. Look for the Steelers to employ a run-heavy attack to protect Charlie Batch, and Legursky's presence doesn't downgrade Rashard Mendenhall's outlook at all.
Thu, Sep 23, 2010 09:33:00 AM

Steelers RG Trai Essex is in danger of missing this week's game with a sprained ankle.

Coach Mike Tomlin expressed confidence in backup Doug Legursky should Essex sit out on Sunday. Essex was subpar as a run-blocker last season, so his loss shouldn't affect Rashard Mendenhall's output.

Steelers OG Trai Essex left Sunday's game against the Titans with an undisclosed injury.

It looked as though Essex got his leg rolled up on, and the injury looked serious.
